WWE Raw Report 9-27-2004, Live from Kansas City, Missouri

The show began with a tribute to the Big Bossman, Ray Taylor. Here is a sandwich just for you, big guy. In the ring, Eric Bishoff ranted about how much he was against the very concept of Taboo Tuesday. He didn’t believe the WWE fans were able to pick the matches and their stipulations. Eric listed the choices the fans had for the main event. The list was Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit, Edge and Randy Orton. Surprising they did not allow Jericho a chance to be voted on, as I suspect highly that fans would jump at the chance to vote for a Champion versus Champion match up. That is probably why, actually. Eric announced that there was a catch for Randy Orton. He would have to earn his way onto the ballet by winning a no-disqualification match against Batista. Hunter entered to decry the idea that the fans would be in charge of, not merely in the vicinity of, his fate. He promised to leave Taboo Tuesday the Heavyweight Champion, when Shelton Benjamin entered. He had four choices for Tripe H, to stop whining, stop complaining, to stop crying and to get it on right now. Of course the final option was chosen. Triple H hit a cheap shot because he is the super villain of heels, but Shelton took control early on by pounding Hunter in the corner. Both men were knocked to the mat…

…just in time for the commercial. See, I use paragraphs for one segment for simplicity sake. It’s madness! Triple H had gained control of the match, as he had thrown Benjamin into the steel ring post prior and was now focusing on the injured shoulder. Hunter went to the top rope for the express purpose of having Shelton pull him off, causing another double count out. When both men were up, Triple H missed a pedigree attempt when Benjamin countered. Shelton then hit a flying bulldog, threw Hunter from the ring and then pounded the Heavyweight Champion’s head into the steel steps. Somewhere, however, Hunter had grabbed the title belt and he used it to cold cock the All-American. Shelton Benjamin defeated Triple H via disqualification. After the match, Hunter gave Shelton a pedigree outside the ring. It was announced that later tonight Trish Stratus had a surprise in store for Diva Search winner Christy Hemme.

Hurricane and Rosey made television for the second week in a row, with some noticeable tension between the two as they squared off against Rhyno and Tajiri. Rosey was much bigger than Rhyno, and it took several attempts for the last ECW champion to knock the super hero down. When he did, Hurricane was tagged in but was outmatched by Tajiri. Rosey came in to break up the tarantula and slammed Tajiri down for the unimpressive win. Hurricane and Rosey defeated Rhyno and Tajiri via pin fall. Todd Grisham was with Kane, and an interview would be next! Exclamation points make me sound interested!

One night before the presidential debate JBL will argue Mick Foley. A vignette detailing the latest twist in the Lita and Kane angle is shown. Todd Grisham was in a hotel room with Kane to give an interview with Kane. Lita will not join them, Kane announces, because she is still in a state of shock. Lita may have hated Kane, but she loved their baby and that had been the one connection point between the two. Kane says that the current situation is beyond words, that his son is dead. Yes, defying all medical logic Kane announces that their unborn child was a son. Kane stated that his wife’s and his unborn son is dead, but Gene Snitsky would be joining him soon. The Smackdown Rebound aired. In the locker room, Chris Benoit lauded the idea of Taboo Tuesday to William Regal, and said that if chosen he would walk out Heavyweight Champion. Regal agreed, and Eugene interrupted with a pair of scissors. William was quite scared at letting Eugene have a sharp object, and had a safer way for the special young man to practice cutting hair than on him.

Gene Snitsky entered for his match with Val Venis. Earlier tonight Gene said that he was sorry Lita lost the baby, but it was not his fault. If anyone had a problem with that, then they could take it up with him next week. I noticed that Gene’s video entrance consisted of him hitting Kane with a chair. Gene dominated Val at the bottom of the match, beating him in the corner and stomping him down. The crowd started chanting “Baby killer.” I’ve been called that by crowds, but that is because I have killed actual babies, so I consider the calls an occupational hazard. Val fought back and put Snitsky on his back, but missed the money shot. Gene hit the big boot to a stunned Val and locked on an arm-bar gut wrench power slam, a la Test, for the victory. Gene Snitsky defeated Val Venis via pin fall. A total squash match. Wrestlemania sold out in minutes.

Last week, Randy Orton pinned an old man after an RKO. Ric Flair can to the ring wearing a suit. Ric Flair had a problem with the use of the word “Legend,” and with Randy Orton. Ric said that it was true that once you become Heavyweight Champion, you are truly great. Randy Orton was indeed great, but no “Living legend” and no “Legend killer.” Ric Flair detailed who was and who was not a legend in this business. Shawn Michaels may have been the greatest performer of all time, but no Legend. Harley Race, a Legend that Ric Flair wore out every time they squared off in this very building. Bret Hart, sitting at home looking at pictures of his self is no Legend. Hogan, a wannabe actor, is no legend. Mick Foley was a human stunt man, not a Legend. Only Ric Flair is the true “Legend” of professional wrestler. Until Orton beats Flair, he is no Legend Killer. Randy Orton comes out and says that Ric Flair is in fact a legend, and when he was little he used to sneak around the house in a bathrobe yelling “Woo!” That made it all the bigger shame what has become of Ric Flair, Randy said. Before, Randy continued, Ric would never say Triple H is the greatest wrestler alive. Randy said that, Ric Flair is nothing but a lap dog or glorified cheerleader. Randy hoped that Ric would wake up. Ric Flair looked like some of what Randy was getting through to him. I simply could not do justice to how good Randy was in this segment, nor can words describe how silly it was for Ric to mention Bret or Hogan who have never been associated with Orton’s gimmick.

Last Monday, Captain Charisma and Goat boy added insult to injury to insult. This week the Heartbreak Kid got a chance at him with a Tag Team match in which Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho faced Christian and Tomko. The match started with all four men attacking one another. When the referee restored order, the heels were in control. Since this is only the first commercial break of a WWE tag match, however, Shawn quickly regained his footing and tagged in Jericho. Jericho knocked Christian off the apron and tripped Tomko onto the middle rope. He and Michaels would then toss the big man out of the ring. Christian tried to jump them both from behind, but they press slammed him to the outside, onto Tomko.

During the break, as per the standard set of WWE Raw tag matches, team evil regained control when the big team member, in this case Tomko, hit a strong clothesline/slam/boot/other. Tomko missed a dropping fist to Jericho, but Christian knocked HBK off the apron before Jericho could make the tag. Christian dropped Jericho onto the rail on the outside. The heels cut the ring in two, as the late Gorilla Monsoon often would say, and worked over Chris as the crowd chanted “Y2J.” As Tomko was in the ring with Jericho, Chris hit a running enziguri and hot tag to the fresh HBK. Inverted atomic drops for everyone, which was interesting to say the least. From here the match was a complete mess of spots. Christian had Shawn set up for an unprettier, but Jericho came from no where to hit the face plant and lionsault. Tomko had his chance, cutting off Jericho and calling for his big boot. Shawn hit him with sweet chin music and looked set to win. From behind, however, Christian had recovered and rolled Shawn up, held the ropes and got the 1, 2 and 3. Christian and Tomko defeated Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels via pin fall. In the Evolution locker room, Batista said he had been waiting for two years of this. He had been tired of hearing that the future of Evolution, not him. He did wonder what was up with Flair, and Triple H told him to forget it. Batista promised to not let the fans get a chance to vote for Randy Orton.

In the ring, William Regal was with Eugene to demonstrate the available stipulations, and I noticed a “Wrestle Crap” sign in the background. He had two fans, one as a butler and one in a dress. A third man who was probably not an actual volunteer, with pretty blonde locks, was there to show the end result of a hair stipulation. Technical problems with a pair of sheers prevented too much of his hair from being cut off before Eric interrupted. He claimed that Eugene would not be cutting his hair, or even beating him. Eric hit a side kick on the blond volunteer and darted from the ring. Clips from the fan conference for Taboo Tuesday were shown. Christy’s initiation party, hosted by Trish Stratus, was announced as next.

JR and the King talked about the WWE fantasy league, which I have no desire to enter in any way, shape, or form. Gail Kim, Molly and Trish came to the red carpeted ring to introduce the brand new Raw Diva, Christy. Before Trish could say what she wanted to, Christy grabbed the microphone and thanked the fans who voted for her. She said it was a true honor to be in the ring in front of all of the fans. Trish thought it was sweet, because it really was because of the fans and whoever Christy slept with to be a finalist. Trish had a surprise for Christy, a video taped message from Carmella. Carmella said she was prettier, more charismatic and a better golfer (I lie a lot) than Christy, but the fans knew they could never have a chance with Carmella so they the fans chose the no body instead of the playmate of the year. Carmella said she was wrong, that Christy was someone after all – she was the bitch who robbed her of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars, and she could not wait to see her get her ass kicked. Trish announced that would be very soon, as Christy would be taking on all three women in a bra and panties match right then and there. Of course the three ripped of Christy’s clothing and left her. Christy was at first embarrassed, but once she realized the fans liked her like that she announced she was comfortable now thanks to Gail, Molly and Trish. She gawked for the camera a bit, and nearly fell off the ropes in her high heels. Backstage, Ric Flair looked to be deep in thought. Batista was concerned, and Flair said the nature boy did not do what others told him to.

The main event was on at this point; Batista took on Randy Orton in a no disqualification match. Randy tried to immediately gain the advantage of the bigger Batista, but was quickly over-powered. The monster beat Orton from pillar to post for a full five minutes before Orton made his comeback. Orton dodged and ducked under the attacks of Batista and retaliated until Triple H made the save. It was now two on one, but Orton was holding his own quite well. Finally the numbers overwhelmed him, and Hunter grabbed a steel chair to seal the deal against the supposed legend killer, when Ric Flair appeared. He looked dead serious with Hunter, and took the chair away. Triple H and Batista were hesitant what to do, but Flair wasn’t. He hit Orton in the crotch, and took the chair to him. Flair and Hunter hugged while Batista landed the sit out Batista Bomb and covered the former champion for the victory. Batista defeated Randy Orton in a no-disqualification match via pin fall. After the match, Hunter taunted a fallen Randy Orton once again with the heavyweight championship belt.
