New South Wrestling Alliance "Saturday Night House Party" from the NSWA Arena
September 25, 2004
Kenner, Louisiana
Attendance: 40-50+
Hey everyone. Instead of catching Velocity, my brother and I decided to catch a good old fashioned Indy show, presented by the New South Wrestling Alliance. To be honest, my first impression of the group was that it was a "backyard fed", as the show was being held in a garage. The ring, which was pretty standard, was positioned between three walls, meaning that the fans were sitting towards one side of the ring(no ring apron). There was also no barricade. However, my worries soon turned into delight, as this was pretty damn professional. They had a pretty cool entrance for the wrestlers, a witty announcer(also promoter), fairly good sound/lighting system, and really good talent. The show started around 8:06 p.m. The announcer came out, ran down the card, and pursuaded us to buy some beer. There was also a moment of silence for the late Big Bossman(RIP), and a moment to rise for the National Anthem.
Match #1 - Luchadore Uno Vs. Luchdore Dos
I didn't hear their names, so I just called them the luchadores. It was obvious that both men, while wearing masks, were not in fact from Mexico. This was a pretty cool match, and a very hot opener. Both men showed good wrestling techniques, and really impressed me. The ref of the night, Chris, counted in Spanish. The match ended when both men fought on the outside, and were counted out.
No Contest Via Double Count Out
After the match, The Great Gracie(in face paint) came out and beat the crap out of not only the grapplers, but one of the crew members as well. This went on until Bonez came out, and said that they would meet later in the night.
Match #2 - Joe Kane Vs. Terry Cash
This was Joe Kane's return to Louisiana wrestling, and Terry Cash's debut in the NSWA. Terry Cash, hailing from Wall Street, came out in a suit(I marked out for that). During the match, Joe kept telling the ref that Terry was pulling his hair, which is something he does not have. Joe played up to the crowd, while playing the heel(somewhat). The match ended when Joe hit Terry with a Danny Doring version of the jawbreaker.
Winner Via Pinfall: Joe Kane
A Five minute intermission(which was really like Ten) came up, in which we were asked to get more beer. Afterwards, Sassy Vegas(who came out to "You are so beautiful") recieved what had to be the most heel heat of the night. People utterly LOATHED him. He tried to sing us a song, but everytime he would breathe, the crowd would yell "Shut UP!". There were also some more chants, but they were pretty dirty. Joey Homegrown came out to a good pop, and entered the ring.
Match #3 - Sassy Vegas Vs. Joey Homegrown
Before the match began, Sassy called out TK Riot, and asked if his Homeless manager would ref the match. Chris was asked to leave, and was replaced buy The Homeless Guy(who wore a ref shirt with "Will ref 4 food" on the back". The match was basically all Homegrown. Joey had the win many times, but the ref kept stalling. Joey even got Sassy to quit, but the ref wouldn't acknowledge it. In the end, Sassy locked in a submission, and the ref called for the bell. Even though Joey didn't tap, he still lost.
Winner Via Screwjob Submission: Sassy Vegas
After the match, the Homeless ref said he did it to protect Homegrown. Joey proceeded to drop the ref on his ass.
Match #4 - Battle of the Giants part 2: Minotaur Vs. The Mexican Giant w/manager
The Mexican Giant, whom my brother was looking forward to seeing, turned out tobe a cruiserweight. This infuriated my brother to the point of proclaiming the "Giant" as a fraud. I love wrestling. The match itself was a squash, as Minotaur (a "REAL" big guy) threw the MX Giant around the ring. A guy sitting in front of me kept yelling at how this match shouldn't have been booked. The match ended when Minotaur hit a Vader splash.
Winner Via Pinfall: Minotaur
Afterwards, Sassy Vegas (more heel heat) came out, and offered to help make The Mexican Giant a bigger star. The Giant looked interested, but walked off to a good pop.
Match #5 - Main Event 1: The Great Gracie Vs. Bonez
This grudge bout was basically a slugfest. Gracie was in control for most of the match, and kept asking the crowd, "Who's the man?". The crowd continued to answer, "Bonez!". To be honest, I was more interested in the fan yelling at the wrestlers. The match ended when Gracie hit a top rope elbow for the win. The fan, whom I will now call "Frank", asked if he could see the move again, since he missed it.
Winner Via Pinfall: The Great Gracie
Afterwards, Bonez beat up Gracie, then went to ringside, really tired. He layed ontop of a fan in a wheelchair, who proceeded to wheel him to the lockerroom. That was one of the coolest things I have ever scene at an event, and I popped big for that. Gracie asked for a lift as well, but was denied.
Another Five minute intermission.
Match #5 - Main Event 2: Iraqi Rules "Baghdad Brawl" - "The Iraqi Madman" TK Riot w/Homeless Guy Vs. Bryan Hart ( no.1 contender to Kevin Northcutt's Heavyweight belt )
This was match of the night. Both men really meshed well together, and used the no dq rules well. At one point, Hart had TK beaten up, and asked the fan in the wheelchair to chop him. He did, and got a great pop for it. TK bled, but put on an awesome fight with Hart, using chairs, canes, and even top rope splashes. The Homeless Guy got knocked out at one point. Near the end of the match, Bryan Hart(who is a pretty big guy) went for a SHOOTING STAR PRESS, but TK got out of the way. The move was simply awesome, and reminded me of the Brock Lesnar SSP at Wrestlemania XIX. From where I sat, it appeared Hart landed on his face. He continued, and eventually won with a Kurt Angle style Moonsault.
Winner Via Pinfall: Bryan Hart
Afterwards, TK Riot and Joe Kane beat on Hart for a bit, until Terry Cash and The Mexican Giant made the save. As the show ended, we all chanted for Bryan Hart. The announcer got on the mic, thanked us for coming, and said that as long as the keg of beer was full, we could stay. Being that I don't drink, my Brother and I left. This was my first Indy event, and it was pretty cool. It reminded me of how shows used to be setup decades ago. Not very complicated, just good, somewhat old school wrestling. I will be going back when they hold their next show. For more info, check out www.nswawrestling.com
