DETAILED RESULTS FROM THOMASVILLE, NC CWF Mid-Atlantic debuted in Thomasville, NC this past Saturday night with "Explosive Elements," headlined by the finals of the inaugural Johnny Weaver Cup tournament! It was a thrilling night of action, engulfed by a highly enthusiastic standing room only crowd. The evening kicked off with the two semifinal matches in the Johnny Weaver Cup, featuring the Final 4! The Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight champion "Slick" Ric Converse, with "Special K" Krissy Vaine by his side, was able to put away the tournament surprise, Jesse Ortega, by the skin of his teeth (and more accurately, the blood from his mouth that Ortega busted during the contest).
Converse's final round opponent would turn out to be none other than longtime rival "Dangerous E" Corey Edsel who pinned GLCW Canadian Heavyweight champion (and Toronto representative of the Weaver Cup) Quinson Valentino. However, Edsel would limp back to the dressing room following an injury to his leg during the course of the bout.
With the Cup Finals set, the attention was turned towards the rest of the top stars of the Mid-Atlantic territory. "Tremendous" Trent Wylde answered "Red Hot" Tim Blaze's 5:00 challenge, but would go down in defeat in under three minutes.
CWF Mid-Atlantic welcomed back one of the superstars from Ring of Honor, Matt Stryker, as he scored a pinfall over Brad Attitude in a tremendous scientific matchup. After the bout, Stryker offered the customary ROH handshake of respect which Attitude accepted, much to the dismay of Trent Wylde, who voiced his disapproval over Attitude's sportsmanship.
Up next was huge 8-man action as J-Money, Kid Justice, and the Mid- Atlantic Tag Team Champions American Steel Ninja and Brass Munkey defeated Xsiris, Mid-Atlantic TV Champion Mikael Yamaha, Sean Powers, and Mitch Norris (with Brad Stutts in their corner) when Kid Justice scored the biggest win of his career, pinning the TV Champion Yamaha. Moments earlier, Amber O'Neal had gained some measure of revenge against Yamaha, low-blowing him, leaving him incapacitated for Justice's flying bodypress. GeeStar followed up the actions of Amber by giving Brad Stutts one for good measure as well during a wild brawl that provided an all-too-brief preview of the 4th Annual CWF Rumble that is just three weeks away.
Commissioner William L. Cross conducted a touching ceremony, inducting Johnny Weaver into the Mid-Atlantic Hall of Fame to a standing ovation. Don & Rocky Kernodle also presented Weaver with a Lifetime Achievement Award themselves. Weaver and Kernodle thanked the fans for their support and thanked Commissioner Cross for carrying the torch to keep the "Mid-Atlantic Tradition" alive.
Don & Rocky Kernodle then returned to the ring , seeing action, as they defeated the duo of Garry "Madd Trucker" Stevens and Rob "the Bull" McBride (with Tim Blaze in their corner). The crowd went nearly blew the roof off of the building at the end of the bout as Don, Rocky, and even Johnny Weaver all locked their opponents into "Weaverlock" for the victory!
The finals of the Johnny Weaver Cup Tournament developed into another tremendous chapter in the history of the Ric Converse-Corey Edsel wars. After all of the classic matches, including a 2003 "Match of the Year" award at last year's "Explosive Elements," they once again found themselves standing across the ring from one another with arguably the highest stakes ever. Edsel was still somewhat incapacitated from the leg injury earlier in the night which Converse took full advantage of. Both Krissy Vaine and Trent Wylde attempted to interject into the action, which brought estranged Dynasty member Brad Attitude back out, who took a seat amongst the ringside fans. During a frantic conclusion to the bout, Converse attempted to use the Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Title belt at which point Attitude stepped in the path of a charging Converse and Edsel, only to take the blow himself. The impact was so violent that it actually bent the a corner of the Virginia plate and gashed into Attitude's forehead, leaving him a bloody mess as he lay collapsed outside of the ring.
Converse's attention was diverted for that one-second that Edsel needed, as he hooked Converse from behind and delivered a crushing backdrop driver that implanted Converse's head into the canvas. A three-count later and Corey Edsel was the inaugural Johnny Weaver Cup winner! As Converse, Wylde, and Vaine walked past their bloody teammate in the "Dynasty," the tournament trophy was presented to Edsel by Johnny Weaver, in a moment that Edsel called "the greatest of his career."
Fans from all over North & South Carolina attended this special night and we want to thank them for their support and the many well wished we received from first time fans in attendance.
Don't forget, Sept. 18th marks the 4th Annual CWF Rumble! 30 wrestlers battle it out for a championship match of their choosing!
