NWA TNA Xplosion Report 5-29-04
Submitted by Michael Langan II on Saturday, May 29, 2004 at 9:31 PM EST

    NWA TOTAL NONSTOP ACTION XPLOSION
    Episode #?
5/28/04 (Sunshine), 5/29/04 (Nashville, Original Market)

It's good to be back. Insanity abound. E3 was wonderful. LA was ... LA. The
plane flight, the jet lag, and getting used to the time zones again was
fun. Then just days later my sleep schedule is like I went to China for a
    few weeks. Alas.

    Few reminders:
-TNA WRESTLING IMPACT debuts on FOX SPORTS NET next FRIDAY, JUNE 4th at
3PM. I should have a report just after the show is over.
-GEORGIA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING returns to COLUMBUS, GEORGIA on JUNE 1st,
2004 at 7:30. Card is here:
    http://www.geocities.com/piledriverproductionsgcw/june1.html ... Updated
card listed at the bottom. Well worth the $10 for old school and wrestling
fans in the area. Kids get in for $5.
-IWA TOTAL IMPACT this week was a re-air of the Episode from 1/9/04,
featuring RAY GONZALEZ. No new material this week.

    Now? Onto the show!

-Cue open. Macho Man & Friends still sing the Xplosion open, but the song
has been missing on the PPV opening... hmmm.

-Preview Video to open, recapping the Four Man Deadly Draw Match from
5/19/04's PPV. These are a nice way to start Xplosion and gives some
highlights. The focus of the package is still on RUSSO and KILLINGS winning
the NWA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, but barely any focus on the former champion,
    A.J. STYLES. Urgh.

-JEREMY BORASH & MIKE TENAY open the show. Shill for TNAW (TNA WRESTLING)
IMPACT on FOX SPORTS NET, next Friday at 3PM! Borash also tells everyone to
check local listings for replay times. They talk about this week's card
including a Five Man KING OF THE MOUNTAIN MATCH for the NWA WORLD
CHAMPIONSHIP as well as X DIVISION and WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP title
defenses. Tenay tosses it to the ring.

MATCH #1: THE NATURALS v. ERIC DARKSTORM & JEFF LEWIS (from 5/1/04)

-Son of a bitch. Rather than NOT CLIP MATCHES in past weeks, instead they
decide to re-air matches. This is the second time in recent memory that

they've done this, the other being a SABU v. JOHN McCHESNEY match.
-This was also the match that BRAD BEAMOUNT commentated with Tenay & DON
WEST. I guess it's a nice deal for him, since he originally won an auction
to co-announce an ENTIRE PPV and ended up only doing an Xplosion match.
-Match aired in full lasting 3:51, as it did last time.
-Complete re-air, including the entrance for Darkstorm & Lewis.

-TNAW's BLOODIEST BRAWLS Home Video Promo. Still a waste of thirty seconds.

-TNAW IMPACT Promo. This is nice to see. It's basically a re-airing of
Tenay's promo talking about the show with an underlying track sung by
Goldylocks. They also have the screen split so, on top of Tenay, we get
clips of various TNA stuff. This is far more up-to-date than the rest of
the batch of promos for TNA, so pretty much everyone in the promos is
either under contract or apart of the X Cup stuff. Lots of A.J. and
    Daniels. Good move.

    [Break]

-Recap Video of JERRY LYNN v. BOBBY R(U/OO)DE and hype for the WORLD X CUP.
All videos that were used on the PPV this week. I don't mind seeing video
footage of the shows over a week after they air as I don't think it pisses
on the paying fans as much as airing the finishes and promos did.

-Borash & Tenay return. They're hyping this week's show as a NIGHT OF
CHAMPIONS. Rundown: KING OF THE MOUNTAIN MATCH for the NWA WORLD
CHAMPIONSHIP (only name mentioned is Champion RON "THE TRUTH" KILLINGS, but
the rest are: "WILDCAT" CHRIS HARRIS, JEFF JARRETT, RAVEN, and A.J.
STYLES). DALLAS & KID KASH defend the NWA WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
against "THE AMERICAN DREAM" DUSTY RHODES & "THE TENNESSE COWBOY" JAMES
STORM. FRANKIE "THE FUTURE" KAZARIAN defends the NWA X DIVISION
CHAMPIONSHIP for only the second time since winning the title on April 14th
against THE AMAZING RED. Tenay invites everyone to visit www.nwatna.com for
more matches, as this show was taped over a week ago.

-To the recaps. Stills of the Gauntlet and Two Tag Team Matches that opened
the World X Cup. Every team but Canada was on the board at this point.

-Borash & Tenay continue shilling. Mention of JEFF JARRETT finally getting
his return match. Borash mentions the rest of the participants in the King
    Of The Mountain Match.

-TNA ON DEMAND PROMO. Please, remove STING already.

-They return of the NWA TNA: WHERE ELSE? Promo after a lengthy absence.
Johnny Fairplay! Toby Keith! All sorts of people not there!

    [Break]

MATCH #2: "THE ALPHA MALE" MONTE BROWN v. J.T. LIGHTNING

-I like the way they tape Xplosion now as we actually get to hear the ring
introductions for the jobbers and I don't have to harass BILL BEHRENS or
search the internet endlessly for unnamed guys I don't recognize.
-Lightning comes from Cleveland. That's about all they have to say.
    -Lightning is going to die.
-Exchanges early and brown gets some offense.
-Lightning tries a high cross body block, but Brown catches him and drives
him into his knee a few times before tossing him over ala Scott Hall.
-It should be noted that that ULTIMATE X PLATFORM is set up during this match.
-The announcers are hard selling MONTE BROWN like it's going out of style.
Mentions of how he's proven himself worthy of an NWA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
TITLE SHOT and also how he hasn't lost a match since his return. By my
count, Brown has lost a single match in TNA to... the current NWA WORLD
    CHAMPION, Ron Killings.
-Brawling offense by Brown, then a double under hook suplex.
-Brown takes a slow lap around the ring before covering for two.
-Brown tosses Lightning into the corner, then clothesline him in.
-The most effeminate looking referee ever is the referee for this match.
He's (I'm pretty sure it's a guy, either that or the most flat chested girl
EVER) at least 10.9 Jeff Hardy.
-Brown gets in the face of the referee, then shoves his face.

-Brown eats a boot on a charge, then misses a charge in the corner allowing
Lightning to get two on a roll-up.
-Lighting gets a whip reversed and...

    ...

    - POUNCE.
-Slow cover... three in 2:16. Goodnight.
-Oddly, his squash win over SILAS YOUNG was the same length. Hmmm.

MATCH #2: "The Alpha Male" Monte Brown d. J.T. Lightning by Pinfall (2:16)
after "The Pounce" leaping charging shoulder block from the side.

    -TNA Bloodiest Brawls Promo (2)

    -TNAW Impact Promo (2)

    [Break]

-Back with Borash & Tenay. Shill for Impact? Check. World Title Match
Shill? Check. Explanation of the King Of The Mountain rules? Check. In
short Tenay calls it a reverse ladder match. The gist:

--You pin your opponent, he is sent to the Penalty Box (for? No time given)
--After the pin, you receive the NWA World Championship Belt
--In order to win the match, you must climb the ladder and place the belt
(on something) at the top of the ladder.

Only question is: What happens if someone takes the belt away and does it
    themselves?

-Recap of JEFF JARRETT ranting and raving from NWA TNA 5/19/03. They air
it. What a way to eat up 7:00.

    -NWA TNA Promo

-TNA On Demand Promo (2). Sting! Juvi! Trinity! Teddy! A.J.! Jason Cross!
    Hey wait a minute...

    [Break]

-Back with Borash & Tenay. Why they bothered to tape all these cut in is
beyond me. They really don't have much to say this week. Impact shill. PPV
shill. I swear, we've heard this already. Oh wait. THIS IS THE EXACT SAME
TAPED SEGMENT WE SAW EARLIER. The difference is, instead of being cut off
randomly to go to footage, they take us to stills from this past Wednesday
    Night.

-Recap of World X Cup. Ladder Match and Ultimate X Match still.

-The Sweet Taste Of Victory!: TEAM NWA ("THE FALLEN ANGEL" CHRISTOPHER
DANIELS, JERRY LYNN, "THE FUTURE" CHRIS SABIN, & "PRIME TIME" ELIX SKIPPER)
are all celebrating. Skipper is pacing around. Lynn talks about them

wanting to replace him and how they proved the nay-sayers wrong. Daniels
takes the rest of the promo saying that he was the new member and everyone
pulled their weight and they were a team. Daniels says they're not going to
rest and to bring on the next country. What they should do is give AAA a
rematch under the original X Cup rules. I wonder if anyone realizes that
Jerry Lynn accounted for 0 points for his team? (sure it was SCOTT D'MORE's
    fault--- but still!)

    -TNA Bloodiest Brawls Promo (3)

    -TNAW Impact Promo (3)

    [Break]

MATCH #3: SABU v. LASH LeROUX

-LeRoux's hair is out of control.
-Ultimate X Set up is still up.
-LeRoux has packed on a lot of excess weight since 2000/2001. I must have
not been paying that much attention to his last Xplosion match.
    -Lots of exchanges early.
-Sabu tries to bring in a chair and LeRoux stops him.
-This doesn't last long and LeRoux gets a chair tossed at his head.
-So where's the DQ rule now?
-Sabu does a running double leg lariat splash in the corner leaping off a
    chair for two.
-LeRoux fights back and tries to do all his 1999/2000 offense including the
    split.
-Thanks to some insane friends of mine, I've been subject to LOTS of
2000/2001 WCW stuff and LeRoux is at about 1/30th the speed he was then.
-Chair under the legs double leg drop for two by Sabu.
-Triple Jump Moonsault (Mat-->Chair-->Top Rope-->Moonsault) gets the pin in
    2:05
-Tenay calls the move the "Arabian Moonsault". Okay.
-The matches this week were a complete waste.
-I feel bad for poor Lash.

MATCH #3: Sabu d. Lash LeRoux by Pinfall (2:05) after "The Arabian
Moonsault" triple jump springboard Moonsault splash from a chair off the
    top ring rope.

    -TNA On Demand Promo (3)

    -TNAW Where Else Promo (2)

    [Break]

-Borash & Tenay are back. They mention the match just before. Borash says
that he believes Sabu will make a big IMPACT (ha!) on RAVEN into shill for
TNAW IMPACT. Re-shill of everything again. Tenay repeats everything about
the King Of The Mountain. Aside from the Sabu segway, this might as well
have been a re-air. Borash shills the other two title matches, also saying
    the exact same stuff.

-DALLAS & KID KASH/"THE AMERICAN DREAM" DUSTY RHODES & "THE TENNESSEE
COWBOY" JAMES STORM Recap Video from Wednesday. Really nice package.

-Recap of SCOTT HUDSON interviewing Rhodes & Storm from Wednesday. Entire
interview airs. As a paying customer this wasn't insulting since it was
just a section of this week's PPV to shill next week's.

    -TNA Bloodiest Brawls Promo (4)

    -TNAW Where Else Promo (3)

    [Break]

-Recap of Hudson interviewing 3 LIVE KRU ("B.G." BRIAN GERRARD JAMES, RON
"THE TRUTH" KILLINGS & KONNAN) from Wednesday. Entire interview airs.

-Recap Video Hyping The King Of The Mountain Match from Wednesday.

-Recap of Tenay & West's shill and hard sell from Wednesday. IMPACT debuts
next week. Really? Wow. I must have missed you telling me that.

    -Copyright Graphic. Out.
