It’s a win-win situation. After a few weeks I finally had a chance to get a column out again. As much as I love writing my column I just can’t seem to find enough time to get one out every week anymore. In this week’s edition I try to read between the lines and see if there is a conspiracy between WWE and TNA. It’s a fun read so I suggest you do that… read! Please? Cheap Plug Of The Week: This week I’d like you all to click on over to Pittsburgh Net Radio. A really good friend of mine runs this site and station. Just listen to it for even 20 minutes (longer would be better!) as a favor to me. The more listening hours he gets, the more promotion he gets as his station moves up the list. Don’t be fooled by the name. This station plays local music and so much more. No genre is turned away! Okay, I lied there. I don’t think he plays any gospel. This week’s FBI warning is coming straight to us on the Orient Express. That’s right, Team Japan apparently told us not to steal cable. Of course, I’m just guessing being as I can’t understand one word of Japanese. They really should get Smackdown!’s #1 announcer, Funaki, as their spokesperson. Now that would be really funny. First up is a video package with highlights from Team Canada and Team TNA’s ongoing battles, more specifically Lynn and D’Amore. If you missed the fight between Lynn and D’Amore last week you can read about it here. Match #1- 16 Man Gauntlet Match (in order of ring entrance) Christopher Daniels, Johnny Devine, Nosawa, Ishikari Taichi, Chris Sabin, Mr. Aguila, Petey Williams, Ryuji Hijikata, Jerry Lynn, Heavy Metal, Mitsu Hirai Jr., Bobby Roode, Abismo Negro, Elix Skipper, Eric Young, Hector Garza Basically this is a battle royal match until the last two men are in the ring. Once it is down to the last two, only a pinfall or submission can win. This match is worth 3 points to the winner and 1 point to the team who makes it to the last two. We start of with Daniels and Devine in the ring. Punches are exchanged before an eye poke by Devine. Shoulder block by Daniels. Whips back and forth ending in a hard clothesline by Daniels. Devine comes back with a deep armdrag by Devine. They go back to exchanging blows when… Nosawa enters. Immediately he comes at Daniels with two dropkicks and a take down. Nosawa gets Daniels into a camel clutch while Devine lands a dropkick to his head. The double teamwork continues on Daniels until he ends it with a double clothesline when… Ishikari enters. He does this walk up dropkick on Daniels and follows it with a tornado DDT. Daniels appears to be everyone’s target this evening as he is now hit with a double shoulder block. Triple teamwork on Daniels now as Ishikari and Nosawa hold him down while Devine just continuously kicks him until… Sabin enters. Sabin levels Ishikari and then pretty much immediately eliminates him with a dropkick. Nosawa goes to work on Daniels with some stomps. Sabin is busy working on Devine’s legs when… Mr. Aguila enters. Double clothesline by Aguila. Snap headscissors on Sabin. Aguila pummels away at Sabin in the corner. In the meantime, Daniels is busy choking Nosawa as he tries to eliminate him until… Williams enters. He immediately attacks Sabin with some punches, a few whips, and then a fireman’s carry fall-away slam. Aguila and Nosawa are fighting it out in another part of the ring and Aguila is getting the better of him when… Hijikata enters the ring and applies a cross arm breaker on Daniels. There is a mid-ring exchange between Sabin and Williams before Sabin is eliminated. This was a nice move here because Sabin tried to set Williams up but while he had him in the air Williams managed to hook his legs around Sabin’s neck into a hurricarana. Then… Lynn enters and immediately targets Nosawa for a successful elimination. Next on Lynn’s hitlist is Williams and he annihilates him with a flurry of hard kicks to the chest. Daniels goes to eliminate Williams and he thought he did. Somehow though, Williams manages to cling to the apron for the save at the last second when… Heavy Metal enters the ring. Williams sees him and zeroes in. Before he gets a chance to really do anything Aguila joins Heavy Metal and the double-teaming begins on Williams. Aguila hits him with a sweet dropkick over the top rope but he lands on the apron. Metal comes up behind him with a baseball slide dropkick to his face which eliminates Williams from the match and then… Hirai, the last fresh man from Team Japan, enters the match. He attacks Heavy Metal with a hard flying elbow. Aguila is busy choking Lynn on the ropes with his foot until… Roode joins in the fun. As he runs into the ring he spears Daniels eliminating him from the match. Roode now goes after Lynn with some chops and punches. Ishikari tries to sneak up and eliminate Roode but to no avail before… Abismo Negro comes running to the ring. He comes at Devine hard with a clothesline. At this point in the match anyone who is still in the ring is brawling. Abismo and Heavy Metal team up to eliminate Devine. Hirai and Metal were the next victims for elimination and now… Elix Skipper is the next contestant to enter right as Lynn is tossed over the top rope. Aguila locks on to Skipper and attempts a dropkick. Skipper uses his cat-like reflexes to avoid it and Aguila eliminates himself. As Aguila leaves… Young enters. Abismo lands a dropkick to the head of Ishikari but Young went right for Abismo. His Canadian teammates join in on the fun freeing up Ishikari and Skipper to battle against each other. Skipper gives him a good, hard kick to the mid back area. Ishikari gets in a cheap shot with a rake to Skipper’s eyes. Abismo is still being double teamed by Young and Roode. They have his neck across the bottom rope and choke him by applying pressure with their boots. Now it is time for one more entrance and… Garza is the last man left to enter. Garza immediately eliminates Roode. Abismo is setting up Young for a tombstone piledriver but Garza baseball slides between his legs and dropkicks Young in the head. Ishikari and Abismo are eliminated. Garza goes after Young with a hard chop. Skipper comes over but Young gets in some offense with a double clothesline to both him and Garza. Young then receives a double facebuster by Hijikata and Skipper. Young is eliminated right afterwards as they toss him to the floor. We are now down to Garza and Skipper. Garza goes for his signature handshake but Skipper isn’t having any of it. They both go for dropkicks and they both miss. Cross bodyblock by Garza knocking Skipper down for two but he matrixes out. Another quick two count via small package by Garza. Nice bodyslam on Skipper and Garza is going to the ropes. He attempts a moonsault but Skipper gets out of the way just in time. Garza manages to land on his feet and manages a devastating facebuster on Skipper. He follows up with a beautiful bridge pin on Skipper for the three count. WINNER: Garza pins Skipper at 18:58 We are shown a video package with clips from last week highlighting last week’s shenanigans leading up to the main event. The key highlights were Russo reading off a list of names containing people he thought would interfere with the Deadly Draw match. Another clip shows BG James saying they (3LK) won’t stand by and watch the Truth be taken advantage of.” Next they show the best parts of the title match with Killings winning. Jarrett comes out to the ring and gets on the mic. He yells at Tenay demanding that he comes to the ring with him. He begins to rant, “I want confirmation of my title shot. You are the voice of TNA so I want you to do it. Get in the ring or I’ll slap you. I want Russo as well. June 2nd I am exercising my right for the rematch and I want my confirmation…and yes, I can handle the truth.” The camera cuts to Russo slowly walks to ring like he’s just tired of it all. Jarrett starts in on Russ, “Just when you though you got rid of me, I was the last person on earth you thought you would see in the Deadly Draw. Russo replies to him by saying that even though he despises him, he will never cheat Jarrett out of his rematch. Jarrett doesn’t believe him because that is all Russo has done his whole career through. He continues on saying, “You’ve had all your matches and now it is my turn. Then you can line up Harris, Storm, Raven… I’m beating him the first week. Then the illustrious AJ! Line them all up in one night if you want because I will become the three-time NWA champion. Russo says if he wants his rematch then it will be done on a handshake. Jarrett of course agrees to this because he wants it that bad but Russo has a surprise for him, “We’re going to have a rematch and we’re going to do it your way (that’s the only way according to Jarrett) You said you could take them all in one night so you will. From day one you have claimed to be king of the mountain… Prove it! Next week we will have a King of the Mountain match. If you have a problem with this, we can rip up the rematch contract now.” Some might think that promo went on a bit to long but I thought it was very effective. It doesn’t really fit in with the whole X-Cup theme for the evening but it did tie up the loose ends that were left at the end of last week’s PPV. As for what a King of the Mountain match is all about; well hopefully this makes sense. It will be a five-man match. When one person gets pinned, instead of being eliminated, they get a two-minute penalty. The person that makes the pin gets a chance to climb up the ladder and hang the belt on a hook. I’m assuming this is while everyone is trying to knock him down. I guess we will have to see how this one goes. It sounds like a bit much but who knows? At least it is an original idea. Hudson is in the back with team NWA. Lynn wants us to take a look at his team and see the talent they have. Anyone who has been second-guessing them up until now won’t be after tonight. He made it a point to mention all the experience Sabin has in the Ultimate X match, including his win in the last one. Match #2- Tag Team Match (Worth 2 points) Team Canada (Johnny Devine & Bobby Roode) vs. Team NWA (Christopher Daniels & Elix Skipper) All four men start off in ring. Roode tosses skipper out of the ring. Double team on Daniels before he clotheslines Devine. Double team on Roode now. Daniels and Skipper quickly tag back and forth a few times. Double high hip toss on Rude followed by two quick nearfalls by Skipper on Roode. Roode kicks out and tags in Devine. Snap suplex by Devine on Skipper. Whip, reversal, and another whip before Devine tries to cover Skipper but he matrixes out. Skipper holds Devine up in the air as Daniels connects with a flying elbow off the top rope. Backdrop suplex on Devine and Daniels tags Skipper back in. They really need to re-unite XXX. These two are magic in the ring together. Springboard legdrop off the top rope by Skipper on Devine. He spiked Skipper with DDT and tags in Roode. Roode comes in with a neckbreaker and gets two. Series of rights by Roode and an elbow drop on Skipper’s neck. Nearfall by Roode and then he tags in Devine. Necksnap by Devine followed by a dropkick into Skipper’s face. He hooks Skipper’s leg for two. Punches to Skipper. Roode is choking Skipper on ropes until the ref breaks the hold. Skipper is completely tangled up in the ropes right in the heart of enemy territory. Roode gets Skipper in a sleeper but he fights out with elbows. Roode keeps the beating going with a kneedrop onto Skipper’s chest. Two quick nearfalls by Roode. Devine is now in. Roode scoops Skipper up into a Fireman’s carry and drops him neck/face first into Devine’s shoulder. Ouch! Devine with SSP but Skipper moves out of the way at the last possible second. Both men are down and Daniels wants that tag bad. Here comes Skipper with the hot tag to Daniels. Finally. The well-rested Daniels comes in on fire with clothesline for everyone followed by enzugiri kicks. Quick cover on Roode by Daniels. No good. Daniels quickly follows up with a variation of the bookend and then a beautiful double springboard BME. He goes for pin on Roode but Devine rushes in for the save. Suplex into a crossbody block on Devine gets a quick two count by Daniels. Tag is now made to a recovered Skipper. Skipper had Devine pinned but Roode distracts the ref. Roode grabs Skipper up into a fireman’s carry TKO for two. Daniels is tagged in and greeted with a Euro uppercut by Devine. Hurricarana attempted by Daniels but Devine blocks it. He replies with a missile dropkick to Daniels. Devine goes for the pin and Skipper saves at last second. Roode flips Skipper up into the air for sit-down powerbomb. Divine intervention moonsault and he connects hard. Superkick into a suplex on Daniels. Spinebuster by Roode on Daniels for two. Somewhere in the middle of all that action Daniels manages to tag in Skipper. Full nelson suplex followed by Skipper walking the ropes and a hurricarana on Devine. WINNER: Team NWA scores 2 points. Skipper pins Devine at 11:34 after a double team neckbreaker. A video package of last week’s Bunkhouse Brawl is shown. It includes clips from the ongoing feud between Storm, Dusty, Kash and Dallas. Kash cuts a promo telling Dusty and Storm that they got lucky this time but they are nowhere near the talent of Kid Kash. On June 2nd the belts will be on the line and he warns them that this time they will not underestimate “you two goofs again. We gonna get funky like a monkey and we are going to shove these belts right down your throat.” That Kid Kash sure is a colorful fellow. Hudson is with Storm and Dusty to get their reaction to Kash’s words. Storm tells us that it is “more than a thrill to have Dusty by my side. He’s not just a partner but a good friend of AMW’s.” Dusty cuts back on Kash by saying that he “looked it up in the dictionary, indexes, footnotes, etc. but I did not find Kid Kash and Dallas under the greatest tag team in the world but I did find AMW. Dusty goes on and does his usual funny ramble and ends it with the catchphrase “A Storm is coming and a Dream is coming with it next week.” Match #3- Tag Team Match (Worth 2 points) Team Japan (Ryiji Hijikata & Mitsu Hirai Jr.) vs. Team AAA (Heavy Metal & Abismo Negro) As soon as the bell rings Team Japan hits Abismo with a double clothesline followed by a punch to the head. Japan keeps choking Abismo. They keep distracting the ref and double-teaming on Abismo. Metal tries to point it out to the ref but of course he doesn’t listen. They nail Abismo with a double drop kick but then he manages to tag in Heavy Metal. He’s mad and ready to get down to business on Team Japan. Heavy Metal hits a plancha cross bodyblock on Hijikata who immediately tags in his partner. Hirai is in and smashes Metal with an elbow drop but Metal rolls out of the way. Abismo gets in the action with the most powerful frog splash I have ever seen. German suplex by Abismo into a pin for two. Pumphandle neckbreaker by Abismo on Hijikata. Deep armdrag by Hirai on Abismo. Cross armbreaker on Abismo but Heavy Metal breaks it. He does the “Hijikata Stomp” on Abismo’s arm. Fun fact by Tenay… While doing the stomp he Hijikata counts them out in English. Apparently this is because English-speaking people introduced wrestling to the Japanese so the counts were always made in English and still are to this day. I love Tenay for this reason. No one else gives you information like this during a match. Chops are exchanged between Hijikata and Abismo. Hijikata does a Facebuster and takes it into an armlock. He keeps twisting Abismo’s arm and working on it. Hijikata hits a bridging suplex for two. Metal gets him in a cradle but Hirai gets the shoulder up in time. He goes right back to left arm again using the ropes to apply pressure on it. Hirai hits a sit-down powerbomb. Metal comes back with a hurricarana off the top onto Hirai. Negro comes off the top with a frog splash. Hirai hits the ring and nails Metal with the exploder for the pin. WINNER: Team Japan scores 2 points. Hirai pins Heavy Metal at 8:00 after an exploder. Our Current Scores~ AAA-3, NWA-3, Japan-2, Canada-0 Hudson is in the back with Team Canada and Scott D’Amore. D’Amore is trying his best to hype up his team who has yet to scored anything in the competition. “We’re on the verge of elimination. After all this, we have to get it done on this one or we are out of here. I’ve given you the pep talks. You should be ready. You guys worked too hard for this. We are not leaving empty handed. Viva Canada!” Match #4- Ladder Match (Worth 4 points) Eric Young vs. Taichi Ishikari vs. Mr. Aguila vs. Jerry Lynn Young goes to bring ladder in the ring but Aguila baseball slides him then follows with jump off ropes. Lynn goes to work on Ishikari but he counters with that crazy walkup enzugiri. Young hits a backbreaker on Ishikari. Aguila comes in and starts stomping on him. He throws Young into the ladder in corner and then Young does returns the favor. Young uses ladder on Ishikari as weapon. Lynn with the floatover but he catches the boot of Young. Moonsault by Young on Lynn and then he slams his head into the turnbuckle. Slingshot cross bodyblock by Lynn onto Young. Aguila with a dropkick on Ishikari but Ishikari follows up with an enzugiri to Aguila. Aguila attempts a spinning tiltawhirl headscissors but it fails to connect. He goes up to the ropes but Lynn crotches him. Lynn and Aguila climb up on ladder that is balanced between the ropes with Aguila. Lynn tries to suplex him but Aguila drops him across ladder and Lynn falls outside the ring. Young jumps off ladder onto Lynn who is still outside the ring. Aguila goes for Young who slides between legs and ladder. Aguila turns around and get s a ladder dropkicked into his face by Young. Lynn stomps on Young as the crowd counts it out. He gets right back up but Young clotheslines him back into ring after blocking a DDT. Double leg takedown by Lynn and Young lands back first on ladder. Ishikari’s leg is trapped in ladder and Aguila continues to stomp on the ladder causing intense pain for this young man. According to Tenay he has only been a pro-wrestler for about 16 months. I believe it because he barely looks old enough to step in the ring let alone be in the X-Cup tourney. Ishikari gets a necksnap on Aguila followed by leg drop. Young reverses a hurricarana and drops Lynn on the ladder. Young is slamming Ishikari face into ladder. Young is Back bodydropped onto the ladder by Ishikari. Aguila whips Ishikari into the ladder. At this point they all take turns doing the same to each other. Ishikari is setting up a ladder on the ropes. Lynn sets up a powerslam but Ishikari reverses Lynn into said ladder. Young waits for Lynn to stand up but Lynn sees him coming and tosses him into the ladder. Aguila moonsaults off the second rope into Young onto ladder. Next Aguila powerbombs Lynn into ladder. Our Current Scores~ Canada- 4, AAA-3, NWA-3, Japan-2. Japan is eliminated at this point due to having the lowest score. Hudson is talking with 3LK in the back. He asks for Killings thoughts about the King of the Mountain. “I don’t care how you stack it. I’m gonna keep this belt.” Konnan babbles some additional comments like “We got your back like a car seat.” BG James chimes in that he doesn’t like the way the match is stacked five on one. However he claims that 3lk is here to stay. We must be nearing the final match of the night because West goes into his hard sell mode. Tenay hypes the King of the Mountain match next week. Spanish announcer Armando Quintarro is with Team Mexico. Garza keeps holding up his finger to say they are number one. Porque numero uno?? Yeah that’s about all I got from it. Quintarro goes on to say that the cup is going back to Mexico because these are some of the best from Mexico. Match #5 ~The Main event~ Ultimate X Match (Worth 5 points) Petey Williams vs. Mr. Garza vs. Chris Sabin Garza starts off with his infamous handshake to Sabin who fakes taking it. Instead of shaking they both chop Williams completely taking him by surprise. Let the action begin! Garza and Sabin are fighting so Williams takes this opportunity to try and make it across the steel cables. Sabin sees him and pulls him back down. Double team on Williams. They go to toss him but as they hold him up over their heads he grabs the steel cords. They pull him back down quickly. Spin kick on Garza by Sabin. Sabin was going to fly but Williams knocks him down. Williams with the roll through. Deep armdrag by Garza and then he catches Williams with the dropkick. Garza goes to climb but Sabin crotches him. Williams whips Sabin into the ropes but he goes for the reversal. Too late as Garza lands a dropkick to face of Sabin. Not to be outdone, Sabin returns the favor with his devastating spinning kick. This next moves that Sabin pulled out… I have no idea who to explain it or what it was so I checked around some other recaps. I saw someone refer to it as an electric chair? I’ve never heard of that one before so I’m not sure if it is legit or not. Feel free to email me if you know what this is. Williams by now has reached the middle of the ropes and is right below the X. He reaches for it but Garza tries pulling him down. Williams manages to pull off an amazing DDT while hanging from the middle of the cords high above the ring. All three men are down and trying to catch their breath. This was a well-deserved rest spot for these guys. Finally they all start to move around a bit and Sabin is the first one up. He tries to climb up the corner but Williams cuts him off. Garza comes up with kick to the back of Sabin’s knee. Sabin grabs it in pain that momentarily made me catch my breath being he is just back from that knee injury.
