Okay, here’s how the X-Cup works for those of you who haven’t seen it
before. It is broken into three separate types of matches. First, we have
the singles matches, which are each worth one point. Next we have tag team
matches and they are worth two points each. Last we have an eight-man
elimination match. Each pinfall is worth one point. The team with the most
points is the winner of the coveted American X-Cup. In the event of a tie,
the following week a captain’s match will be held to declare a winner. Now
that we have that out of the way, let’s get on with the good stuff.

Next is the opening video package followed by the official rules for the
    X-Cup competition.

Match #1 Mr. Aguila vs. Teddy Hart w/ Scott D’Amore
They pace around for a few to get a bit of psychology going in the match
then lock-up. Repeat a few times and then Hart breaks out by an armdrag to
Aguila who returns the favor to Hart. Shoulder to back lockup and Aguila
elbows out and hits Hart with a spinning dropkick for a two count. Aguila
tosses Hart into the corner and chokes him on the rope. Hart counters with a
DDT on Aguila. Aguila comes back with a split leg moonsault on Hart that
    results in another near fall.

Aguila goes up on the rope but D’Amore interferes by hooking his leg. Hart
takes advantage by going for a springboard dropkick on Aguila that sends him
out of the ring. Hart drops on the mat and begins to hold his knee. He sells
it for a few and then goes up on the rope. He realizes that Aguila has
regained his senses so Hart goes down and throws a few punches. Back on the
rope again and a double springboard moonsault to the outside by Hart.

They both return to the ring and Aguila begins to work on Hart’s left knee.
A few more kicks to the knee followed by some hard chops. Aguila goes up to
the ropes for a slingshot cross bodyblock. Both are fighting and Hart
manages a snap hurricarana off the apron to Aguila. Up on the rail for a
moonsault but Hart misses. In the ring again and a two count by Aguila. He
goes up to the top rope and hits Hart with a cross body block for another
    near fall.

Aguila goes up again but here comes D’Amore to interfere again and Aguila
loses his balance and crotches himself on the rope. Hart takes advantage of
the interference and goes up to the rope himself. Tornado DDT lays out
Aguila but not enough for the full three count. Time to pull out the
finisher! Hart gives us a nice showing with a Heart Attack #2 (shooting star
press into a flying elbow) and that’s enough to keep Aguila down for a
    win.Winner: Hart at 8:55

Well what can I say about this except this match
got me more excited about wrestling than the Wrestlemania hype of the past
year. Teddy, with all his problems, is stellar in the ring even with an
“injury.” This match was taped the day of the fight between Hart and Punk
and this is the injury that kept Teddy from wrestling on that evening PPV.
To me, and this is just my opinion, it seems that Mr. Aguila and later on
Juvi were a bit stiff with Teddy at times.

We go to the back with Pena who is with Abysmo Negro and Juvi. Lots of
yelling in Spanish takes place. It apparently translates into “ We beat
Americans. Now we beat Canadians. The cup will go back home to Mexico. The
Canadians are from Kindergarten. They need help.” I have a feeling something
was lost in translation for that last line there.

Match #2 Juventud Guerrera vs. Petey Williams
The match starts off with just a lot of back and forth on the mat for the
first minute. Juvi decides to wake up Williams with a few chops and a
tilt-a-whirl. Before he could complete the move with the headscissors,
William’s escapes. Juvi has him tangled up in the ropes and goes for a 5255
(619). Williams is quick to react and moves out off the way only to get
caught by a cross body block. More chops are exchanged.

Juvi lands a plancha taking it outside the ring. He attempts a hurricarana
on Williams but stops midway through to nail William’s head with a drop
toehold into the metal steps. Back in the ring and blows are exchanged
before an Irish Whip by Juvi into the corner. Juvi goes for a splash but
changes it into a spinning kick instead. A few more kicks to the chest of
Williams and a lateral press gets Juvi a two count.

Williams is in the corner and lays on a few heavy-handed chops to Juvi. Juvi
is off the top ropes with a hurricarana for a two count. . Williams returns
the favor with the same resulting in another near fall. Bridging northern
lights going into a roll through by Juvi (very nicely done.)

They are both fighting on the apron and Juvi does a tilt-a-whirl
headscissors off there onto the floor. Back in the ring Juvi locks Williams
into the sharpshooter. Williams is trying his best to get to the rope to
break the hold and Juvi lets him out instead. Small package by Juvi for a
two count. Juvi hits a DDT and he is down. Juvi walks it off before going
for the two count. Next Juvi puts Williams into a figure four but it is on
his neck instead of his legs. Face first body block, pancake, and then some
    chops.

Williams has caught his second wind and he is on fire. He goes after Juvi
with a tilt-a-whirl Russian leg sweep and succeeds. Very nice indeed! They
lock up and then a reversal leading into a spinebuster by Juvi for a two
count that begins an extremely quick series of near falls. Juvi ends it all
with a Juvi driver, which ties it up in the hunt for the X-Cup. Winner:
    Juvi at 9:05

What can I say but I loved it. I’m a huge mark for
the high spots so what can you expect. Hey, mat work is good too but I
always cheer loudest for a high spot, which this match had a lot off. The
series of near falls would have been a bit overdone except the speed that
these guys accomplished it with was just outstanding. The tilt-a-whirl
headscissors off the apron and onto the floor by Juvi was very well
executed. I’ve already more than got my money’s worth with this PPV for it’s
not quite 30 minutes into the show. What I loved was Juvi using the
sharpshooter on someone from Team Canada. Talk about mind games.
    color=limegreen>

We go to the back with Hudson. He is in the locker room with Team Canada and
Teddy is selling his heart out. Hart is screaming at the doctor and D’Amore.
He wants to continue at any cost. He tells the doctor to tape it, wrap it,
brace it… whatever it takes to keep him in. Scott tells Devine that he is up
    next instead of Hart.

Match #3 Johnny Devine vs. Abysmo Negro
Abysmo throws his cape at Devine and then yells to the crowd to start up a
chant. They walk around a bit more to get the crowd fired up before locking
up. Reversal leads to an armdrag for a quick one count. Devine comes at
Abysmo for a monkey flip leg scissors. An armdrag leads to an armbar that is
quickly broken. Now it’s time for a few high spots.

Devine comes at Abysmo with a sharp kick to the mid-section and connects
with a few right hands. Devine’s feeling lucky and rolls the dice on Abysmo.
Abysmo answers back with a cross body block but Devine gets a two count. He
whips Abysmo off the ropes and out of the ring and Abysmo goes for a suicide
    dive.

Now they are up on the apron fighting it arm. Armdrag by Abysmo for two and
then some hard open hand slaps to Devine. Abysmo goes to the ropes for
another two count and Devine comes back with a springboard hurricarana to
end it. Winner: Devine at 6:03

This was probably my least favorite match for the
competition and even it was entertaining. As young as Team Canada is they
can do some spectacular ring work.

Gilberti is in the locker room with Young. Young is lying on the couch as
Gilberti asks him questions about the clowns. One of the funniest had to be
when he asked him what his thoughts on Doink the Clown were. Obviously Young
didn’t care for him either. Kash comes in and wants to know what the heck is
going on. He is talking about how outnumbered (?) they are in tonight’s
match-up. He then puts an end to the psychoanalysis and tells them to quit
    clowning around. Poor Mr. Young…

Match #4 Hector Garza vs. Jack Evans
Evans comes to the ring by doing backflips down the ramp. Once in the ring
he showboats some more by putting the spin-a-rooni to shame. If you think
RVD is flexible then you have to see this kid.

Garza comes to the ring with his usual cockiness and they start a shoving
match. They walk it off a bit and lock up. Garza pushes Evans into the ropes
and then they pace some more. Garza is getting a bit frustrated at this
point. Another locker up shoulder to back style and they reverse each other
a few times. Garza elbows out and gets Evans into a shoulderlock. Evans
    counters with a snapmare.

Tenay takes this opportunity to give us some background information on
Evans. He was trained by Brian Alvarez and then went to work with the Hart’s
at the Dungeon. He also gives us the rundown on Teddy’s impressive family
tree. It seems that Hart and Evan’s are going to be related soon too. Evans
is engaged to Hart’s sister. This is why Tenay is so respected as an
announcer. No one knows the facts like the Professor.

Garza spears Evans and they hit a few high spots. Jack struts around a
little bit after an impressive exchange with Garza. Garza gets Evans into
the corner and repeatedly hits him. He follows this up with a clothesline
from hell and a lateral press resulting in a near pinfall. A few kicks to
Evans’ back. Evans responds by whipping Garza into the corner and hitting
him with a headscissors snap right out of the ring.

Outside of the ring they brawl for a bit and then Evans whips Garza into the
railing. Evans goes to the apron and flips off. Back in the ring Garza hits
him with a dropkick then scoops him up for a slam. Garza goes to the ropes
for a corkscrew moonsault but Evans gets out of the way. Evans gos for a 360
shooting star press but Garza moves. A two count follows. Garza powerbombs
Evans with authority and then a moonsault gets Garza the pin. Winner:
    Garza at 6:40

Hudson is in the back with Harris and Storm. Harris tells us how he has
passed all of Russo’s tests and he is more than ready for his title match
next week. He’s been ready since 94 when he first put on his boots. On the
17th he is going to take that title because he was born ready.

Next we are shown a video package with Tenay and Russo. They are discussing
next week’s main event between Harris and Jarrett. Russo defends his
position that he thinks it is best to postpone the match. He’s done his best
though and it is out of his hands. They show clips of the past two weeks
highlighting Harris’s gauntlet for the gold. Russo tells us that he wishes
he had more time to teach him the Jeff he’s not privy too. Don’t get Russo
wrong though; he’s 100% behind Harris. He tells us that he is more behind
him that anyone else. No matter what happens next week, Russo promises us
that the best man will be the one to leave the ring victorious.

Next up are the Tag Team matches for the X-Cup. Right now Canada and Mexico
are tied. Two points are awarded for a win in this round.

Match #5 Juventud Guerrera & Abysmo Negro vs. Jack Evans & Teddy Hart
Hart and Juvi are first up and man is Juvi stiff with him. Headlock on Hart
but Juvi counters with some chops and a shoulder block. A hurricarana on
Hart and he is showing some wear and tear due to his injury. They go at it a
bit more and then it’s time for a quick tag to their respective partners.

Abysmo and Evans are up next. Evans does a handspring (man, he makes it look
so easy) right over Abysmo without any problems. Abysmo tries to grab him
for an armdrag but doesn’t catch him fast enough. Evans throws him into the
ropes and follows it with a slingshot. Abysmo counters with a dropkick. Juvi
gets the tag and they double-team Evans. Hart runs in to break it but gets
it in the face with a dropkick by Abysmo.

Hart comes back with a springboard DDT onto Juvi. Negro is working on Evans
in the meantime with a backbreaker followed by the torture rack. Evans
escaped and rolls up Abysmo for a near pinfall. Hart is officially tagged in
and hits a fall-away slam on Team AAA. Hart is on the top rope and does a
Hart attack #2 (twisting diving splash) for his own two count.

Hart nails Abysmo with a DDT and Evans prepares to fly. A 630 press by Evans
on Abysmo! Juvi gets a harsh missile dropkick on Hart. Abysmo recovers and
nails a plancha on Evans who is out on the floor. Juvi is dominating Hart in
the ring. He gets him into the Juvi-lock on his injured knee and Hart taps
out almost instantly. Winner: Team AAA from Juventud via submission at
    7:20

Words can not begin to explain that 630 by Evans. I
say it with my own eyes and still can’t believe it. I can’t wait to see what
the future holds for this young man. This match was just over the top with
the high spots. Very entertaining and I didn’t even care who won because it
    was so well done.

ICP is with Hudson and they are hyping up their Dark Carnivale match later
this evening. According to them we are mere moments away from complete
catastrophe. The Juggalos are lined up outside all the way to Memphis. ICP
leaves to go back to the limo for some “Herbal Exercises.” What ever could
they mean by that cryptic message???

Match #6 Mr. Aguila & Hector Garza vs. Johnny Devine & Petey Williams
Aguila & Garza wasted no time going after Devine. First thing they hit him
with was a nice stereo dropkick then it was time for a double team
hurricarana. They try for a pin but Williams’ quick response broke it in
time. Garza and Williams are in for a one on one now. Garza starts it off
with some devastating chops. He whips Williams into the ropes; deep armdrag
followed by a dropkick to the floor. Williams comes back with a slingshot
hurricarana onto Garza who is outside the ring.

Back in the ring Williams gets Aguila with a headscissors and knocks him
into the turnbuckle. Time for a quick two count. Williams punches Aguila a
few times and whips him into the ropes. Sunset flip and quick roll up by
Devine. Devine follows up with a clothesline. Sandwich dropkick by Canada on
    Aguila.

Devine gets another quick two on Garza and he goes for a roll-up on Devine.
At this point I’m not even sure who’s legal because the tags are so quick.
Devine nails Garza with a dropkick to the face for another two. Williams
tags in and devastates Garza with the Mongolian cross chop. Garza is down
but Devine scoops him up for a snap suplex for another near pinfall. Aguila
runs in for a save and is greeted by a sleeper. Garza kicks Devine in an
attempt to break the hold but to no avail.

Devine goes for the tag and Williams gets a two. A few more quick tags back
and forth and they begin to double team Aguila. Devine is on the ropes.
Williams sets up Aguila for what appears to be a vertical suplex but Devine
jumps down and lands right between Aguila’s legs and he falls to the floor
writhing in pain. Another two count.

A much-needed tag is made to Garza. Garza takes down Devine with an
outstanding German suplex. He gets back up only to meet a superkick in the
chest that knocks him out for a two count. A full revolution DDT by Devine
on Garza (nice comeback!) Devine goes for the Devine Intervention which is
frog-splash type of moonsault preceded by a tilt-a-whirl. Garza doesn’t
stand a chance and is down for three. Winner: Devine pins Aguila at
    9:18

What else can I say at this point? I’m running out
of ways to say how superb this evening has been so far. That’s bad… or is
that good? I don’t know anymore because my head is spinning from all these
incredible moves I’ve witnessed this evening. Thank god for Tenay being such
a great commentator. Most of these moves happen so fast you’re lucky to
catch them. Tenay is, hands down, the man!

For those of you who care about the points, it is once again tied up between
them for a score of 4-4. Honestly though, as far as I am concerned, there
will be no losers this evening.

Team Canada is in the back celebrating their victories so far. Hudson has
D’Amore on the mic and he tells us that they plan to drink a lot of Molson
out of the cup when they take it home. He explains that it is teamwork that
makes them so successful. They end with a phrase in French to which Hudson
replies that he doesn’t speak Canadian. If any of you readers know the
translation, send me an email. I am assuming it wasn’t all that night and I
would love to know for sure.

The moment you have all been waiting for folks is finally here. No, not the
Dark Carnivale match! The 8 Man Tag Team Elimination match. Each pinfall is
worth one point. It’s anyone’s win at this point. What a close one so far
    tonight.

Match #7 Team AAA vs. Team Canada
Pretty much as soon as both teams are in the ring they are ready to brawl.
The poor ref, Mike Posey, attempts to keep them apart and they now just yell
at each other. Tenay points out that this is the third match in a row for
these men. (Not really but Tenay is keeping kayfabe alive here). The crowd
begins to chant for Mr. Aguila. Evans and Aguila exchange a few words.
D’Amore joins us at the announcers’ table.

Devine and Aguila start off the match and it’s right into a sleeperhold by
Devine. Aguila breaks out and reverses it into a deep armdrag. Devine breaks
loose and quickly goes into his team’s corner. He recovers and comes at
Aguila with a drop toe hold, quick float over and gets Aguila right back
into a sleeper hold. Blink and you would have missed this.

Aguila fights out and again takes it into an armdrag. Two clotheslines on
Devine and Devine knocks him down. Tags are made yet the Aguila chants
    continue.

Abysmo and Williams are now in the ring. Abysmo wastes no time with a
tilt-a-whirl backbreaker followed by a dropkick on Williams. Quick tag by
Abysmo to Garza. A few slaps are exchanges and a nice dropkick to the head
of Williams. Garza follows it up with a hard clothesline.

Tags are made again and now it’s time to get the captains in the ring. Hart
starts to pummel Juvi but Juvi responds with some extremely stiff chops.
Dropkick by Juvi and Hart gets out of the ring as fast as he can. Juvi is
outside the ring now and they both fight for a few seconds. Juvi is dazed so
Hart goes up to the ropes. He is balancing on the top considering who knows
what kind of crazy move and decides against it. Juvi in the meantime
recovers and drags him down off the rope. Hart hits the ground hard. Juvi
nails Hart with a harsh hurricarana outside the ting. Hart pulls himself
back in the ring but his knee is giving out on him. He is looking like the
pain is unbearable. After he sells for a little he comes back with a tornado
DDT but it didn’t connect. He goes for the tag to Evans.

Evans is ready to go. Juvi and Abysmo double-team him again with something
that can only be described as a distant cousin of a double powerbomb. If
Tenay doesn’t know what to call it, well, that says enough right there.
Devine comes after Abysmo to even the score and lands a guillotine legdrop
on him. To add insult to injury, Devine does the thumb poke and a few
    punches.

Devine and Evans double-team Garza. Before they can do much damage, Juvi
comes in with a dropkick to Evans’s knee. Juvi then attempts a Juvi driver
and nails Evans. Evans gets pinned and is out.

Devine takes on Abysmo and weakens him for Hart. A Hart Attack #2 finishes
Abysmo off and he is now out. We now have Juvi and Hart in the ring again.
Juvi kills Hart with TKO and goes to follows it with a superplex but Devine
interferes with a powerbomb. He illegally uses the ropes to pin Juvi but the
ref didn’t see it. Juvi protests but the ref announces that he is out of the
match. The ref then realizes that Devine cheated and DQ’s him but for some
reason does not re-admit Juvi to the match.

Hart goes for a shooting star press on Aguila and connects as Williams holds
him down over his knee. Aguila is out so now it is all up to Garza. Garza
comes in on fire because he knows it’s all on the line right now. He nails
Hart with a spinning moonsault for the pin. Now it is mano y mano between
Garza and Williams. Williams goes up to the top rope and dives but Garza
catches him with a cross body block and just throws him out of the ring.
Garza goes to the top for his moonsault and the fat lady began to sing.
    Winner: Team AAA at 15:50

Okay, lots to debate here at the final round. I
can’t seem to find an official score for the competition but it was tied
going into the final round. That basically means that the last man
standing’s team wins but everywhere I look I see a different score. Who
knows how that works? Regardless, controversy abounds here. I’m a little
unsatisfied with the ending because a competition of this caliber should
come to a clean finish. However, I am also happy because this means there
will be more between these two teams in the near future and that isn’t a bad
    sounding idea at all.

D’Amore is causing a ruckus at the announcers’ table. He is going to file a
petition immediately due to biased official-ing (his word not mine!) West
goes into his hard sell and Tenay hypes up next week’s match between Harris
    and Jarrett.

Hudson is in the back and he has Jarrett on the mic. Jarrett tells us that
Storm doesn’t even think his partner is ready. If he did, according to
Jarrett, he wouldn’t have interfered in every single match to keep his
partner from losing. As if Jarrett should talk… He starts naming names on
the long list of NWA belt holders and asks if Harris is ready to be on this
    list.

Next is a video package showing Diamond being saved last week from Gilberti
and company by ICP. The rest is a promo for the what is coming up next… The
    Dark Carnivale Match!

Match #8 ICP w/ 2 Tuff Tony vs. Glen Gilberti, Kid Kash & David Young
Honestly, this match should have started off the evening and should have
never been anywhere near the main event. Sorry to disappoint but I’m not
even going to do a rundown of this match. Basically it was strobe lights and
ICP music every two minutes or so and that is what made it a “dark carnivale
match.” Without the hoopla it was just an ordinary hardcore match with no
DQ’s. This was the first bad match that ICP put on. Too many botched spots
the whole way through. Two things that are worth mentioning is Kash having
to avert his 450 dropkick in order to not hurt Shaggy because he wasn’t in
the right spot. Kash could have injured himself trying not to injure the
clown, which just shows his level of professionalism. The match ended with
The Alpha Male Monte Brown running in to help Gilberti at the end of the
match. Winner: Kash pins Tony at 11:57

We end the evening with another video package hyping Jarrett’s defense of
the belt against Chris Harris. Thanks for reading and until next week, this
is Christina Schmalz with The Full Monty.
