I’d like to go out on a good note tonight, so hopefully this show will be a good one.
We open to Kurt Angle’s face, staring deep into the camera. “Why, Kurt, why?” Angle asks these questions as we see a video package over his attack on Eddie. Tonight, Angle will tell us the truth. Are you ready for the truth?
And now, welcome to SmackDown! Michael Cole and Tazz at ringside.
Tonight, we’ll relive Vince’s Wrestlemania announcements, plus we got a tag match with Cena/Eddie against Show/Chavo.
Match #1: Rey Mysterio vs. Jamie Noble vs. Nunzio vs. Billy Kidman in a Sudden Death Fatal Fourway Match
The winner of this match faces the Cruiserweight Champion at Wrestlemania XX. Jamie Noble attacks Rey Mysterio as Nunzio meets Billy Kidman up the ramp. After that, Noble starts off against Kidman. Rey leaps over Kidman and lands on Noble. Kidman misses a clothesline on Noble and they both are sent crashing over the top. Rey tries the bulldog, but Nunzio counters into a faceplant. We cut to the back as Eddie Guerrero storms into Paul Heyman’s office, where, Tajiri, Akio and Sakoda are. Eddie says he will beat the hell out of Angle. He questions Heyman’s involvements in Angle’s turn. Was Chavo Sr. really knocked out? Heyman says Eddie always to be the champion, and he should conduct himself like one. Heyman had nothing to do with it, and he deserves to know that answer. Heyman’s conducting business, so he excuses Eddie. Eddie leaves as Heyman promises the Japanese men… cut back to the match, where Noble backbreakers Rey and gets a 2 count. Noble shoves Rey under the bottom rope and immediately head scissors a nearby Nunzio! Kidman to the top rope and hits a crossbody on Noble, who went outside! Kidman rolls Noble into the ring and covers for 2. Noble fights out of a powerbomb, but Kidman comes back with an inziguiri. Kidman goes up top for the Shooting Star Press… but Nunzio meets him up top and brawls with him. Kidman stumbles to the floor and Nunzio is hung up on the top rope. Rey and Noble hit each other with a neckbreaker and all four men are down as we cut to commercial.
~ COMMERCIAL BREAK 1 ~
Back from commercial, Rey head scissors Noble. Rey reserves the Tiger Bomb, and Kidman dropkicks Rey before he can hit the 619. Kidman runs into Noble’s elbow. Noble has Kidman in the sleeper, and Nunzio dropkicks both men. Rey breaks up the count with a legdrop. Srpingboard crossbody on Nunzio gets 2. Kidman attacks Rey, but Rey counters into a faceplant for 2. Kidman snake eyed Rey on the 2nd turnbuckle. Kidman has Rey up top, but Rey knocks Kidman to the mat and moonsaults him! Noble stops a count from occurring, but takes a bulldog from Rey. Kidman breaks up the count. Spinning DDT by Rey to Kidman. Rey covers, Noble pulls him off. Noble throws Rey under the rope out of the ring. Noble gets taken down by Nunzio and covers for 2. Kidman sends Noble sailing over the top, Rey dropkicks Nunzio and Kidman, and hits Nunzio with the 619! Rey goes up top… but Heyman interrupts him. He apologizes to Rey, because this match is officially cancelled. Heyman says there is no Japanese representation in this match, and there can be no racial discrimination. (Funaki, I say!) Chavo Guerrero won’t defend against Rey Mysterio nor anyone else in the ring. In all fairness, he’ll defend the title against any Cruiserweight that decides to enter in the Cruiserweight Open. The winner of that match leaves Wrestlemania the Cruiserweight champion. The crowd doesn’t seem to like that idea, and neither do it. An again Rey leaps out of the ring and spears Tajiri and retreats up the ramp. Several unnecessary interruptions and a no contest totally destroyed this great cruiserweight matchup. It’s a shame. Because of that, this match gets no rating.
Winner: No Contest
Match Rating: N/A
We see a video package highlighting Eddie Guerrero winning the WWE Championship at No Way Out and Angle attacking him last week on SmackDown. Later tonight, Angle will answer the lingering Why question.
~ COMMERCIAL BREAK 2 ~
Match #2: Rikishi & Scotty 2 Hotty (Champions) vs. The APA in a non-title match
Faarooq starts off against Scotty 2 Hotty. Lockup. Faarooq shoves Scotty down, and Scotty applauds him. Faarooq knees Scotty down, but he comes back with a dropkick and some dancing. Faarooq applauds HIM. So does Bradshaw. Faarooq distracts Scotty and flattens him with a punch. Bradshaw in. Double shoulder takedown by the APA. Cover by Bradshaw for 2. Delayed back suplex by Bradshaw, then covers for 2. Scotty chops back and tags Rikishi. Bradshaw tries the Last Call, but Rikishi breaks it up. Rikishi catches Bradshaw’s big boot and turn it into a belly to back suplex. Chops in the corner by Rikishi. He runs into Bradshaw’s boot and takes a 2nd rope shoulder knockdown. Bradshaw isn’t strong enough to lift Rikishi, and takes a back body drop. Rikishi misses the sitdown squash and Bradshaw fights back. He headbutts Bradshaw into Stinkface position, but Faarooq clotheslines him on the apron. Big boot to Scotty by Bradshaw, and a kick to Bradshaw by Rikishi. Samoan drop to Faarooq. Suddenly, out come The Basham Brothers to distract Rikishi. Bradshaw comes and nails Rikishi with the Clothesline From Hell and gets the pin! Pretty short ‘n’ good match.
Winners: The APA
Match Rating: 5/10
Up next, we get to see Brock Lesnar’s Monday Nigh Raw invasion.
~ COMMERCIAL BREAK 3 ~
Said highlights were shown, with Vince McMahon’s reluctance to allow Lesnar vs. Goldberg to happen at Wrestlemania XX, Steve Austin volunteering to referee that match, and Lesnar surprising everyone by giving Austin the F5 during Vince’s match with Eric Bischoff.
In the locker room, Brock Lesnar is interviewed by Josh Mathews. Lesnar says last week he begged Vince for a shot against Goldberg, and he was granted that wish. He blames Goldberg for his loss at No Way Out, and it’s Austin’s fault for giving him that ticket. He’s not concerned about anything. Revenge is what matters. So at Wrestlemania XX, Goldberg will be feeling pain. If Austin wants to stick his nose, he’ll find out the true meaning of off the hook pain.
Still to come tonight, Brock Lesnar vs. Billy Gunn. Nice knowin’ ya, Billy.
~ COMMERCIAL BREAK 4 ~
17 days until Wrestlemania XX. Can ya feel it!?!?
Please welcome our esteemed WWE Champion Eddie Guerrero! Coming down to the ring in his slightly remixed entrance music, Eddie proudly shows off his gold and grabs the mic. “Eddie!” chants start. “Odalay Kansas City!” he responds. Eddie pauses for a moment, allowing another “Eddie!” chant to sneak in. February 15, 2004, Eddie Guerrero became the WWE Champion. He thinks about it… that’s been about 11 days? It’s weird, because he’s just walking and all his homies are coming down to him and say “Odalay!” He just takes days like today and looks at it and says thank God he’s the champion. “Eddie!” He figured if he’s got 11 days as a champion, maybe he can get blessed and have what he has today in his two year recovery. He promised his family he’ll do what it takes to be drug and alcohol free. He realized that it took one day at a time. It’s the same formula he’s gonna apply to this belt, I mean it can’t hurt, right? One day at a time, just like his time to fulfill his responsibilities, one as a man. Knowing when it’s time to defend himself and take a stand, Kurt Angle! He calls Angle out to stand face to face with him and be a man. Eddie goes on a red-faced raging rant in calling out Angle…. no show. Eddie says he knows Angle. He likes to jump people from behind. He won’t wait out here; he’ll bring the fight! Eddie runs to the backstage area to hunt down Angle. In a hallway, Paul Heyman tries to stop him, but Eddie keeps walking. Heyman threatens to call the police as Eddie is trying to kick Angle’s door in. Angle is down the hall, and calls out Eddie. Eddie shoves Heyman out of the way, and as a result sandwiches Dawn Marie against the wall. Dawn is holding her head in pain on the floor while Eddie looks shocked at what he did. Heyman screams furiously at Eddie, telling him to get out of his arena. Police escort Eddie from the building.

Recap of what just happened.
Match #3: Billy Gunn vs. Brock Lesnar
Lockup. They shove each other around the ring as the crowd chants for Goldberg. Both men separate. Then a “You tapped out!” chant. Lesnar goes to the assault on Billy Gunn, kicking and shoulder thrusting him in the corner. Whip to the corner by Lesnar, followed by a Belly-to-Belly suplex. Gunn tries to fight back, but to no avail. Lesnar misses a charge and hits the ring post. Gunn applies an armlock while hitting Lesnar’s shoulder. Lesnar shoves Gunn to the corner and knees his way out of it. Armdrag counter by Gunn, then a cross armbreaker. Gunn goes back to that armlock on Lesnar’s left arm. Lesnar breaks free and Gunn runs at him, but is sent sailing over the top rope. Lesnar goes outside to inflict more punishment, but Gunn reverses a whip and sends Lesnar shoulder first into the ring post. They get back in the ring where Gunn covers for 2. Gunn rushes at Lesnar but gets a knee to the gut hard. Gunn punches at Lesnar, but eats a spinebuster. Cover by Lesnar for 2. “Goldberg!” chants again. Boot choke in the corner by Lesnar, but Gunn responds with a hard kick to the face! Lesnar reverses a whip by Gunn and flattens Billy with a powerslam. Cover for 2. Lesnar locks on a rear headlock with his legs hooked around Gunn’s waist. Real crowd silencer here. Gunn gets to his feet and elbows out. Gunn punches, but Lesnar counters a punch into a german suplex. Lesnar with a gutwrench hold, as the crowd goes from dead silent to booing. Gunn tries to wiggle out, and ends up making Lesnar’s head crash into the turnbuckle. Gunn gets on fire, and hits a neckbreaker. Cover for 2. gunn misses a leaping charge in the corner, and ends up walking into the F5 for the pinfall. Tazz: “Hell of a matchup!” I strongly disagree. Gunn did nothing but submissions moves and the crowd practically fell asleep over it. Snoozer match.
Winner: Brock Lesnar
Match Rating: 4/10
~ COMMERCIAL BREAK 6 ~
Cole and Tazz pimp the Raw vs. SmackDown matches. And they are:
- Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg with Special Guest Referee Stone Cold Steve Austin
- The Undertaker vs. Kane
- Torrie Wilson & Sable vs. Stacey Kiebler & Miss Jackie in an Evening Gown Match
Speaking of Playmates, here come Torrie Wilson and Sable! Wow, those are hot dresses… (I’ll cherish my autographed Playboy issue forever…) Torrie says it’s because of the fans that these two ladies are on the cover of Playboy. She thanks everybody for it. Last Monday, McMahon announced said WM XX match. Personally, she thinks her and Sable work very well together, and she couldn’t be more excited. Sable says she’s excited about getting her hands on Stacy and Jackie. For two weeks, they’ve been prancing around Raw saying they should be in Playboy and they’re hotter. She says jealously is an ugly thing, and SmackDown has the hottest and classiest divas. At WM XX, she’ll show the world. Suddenly, out comes John Cena as Torrie tries the You Can’t See Me gesture. Cena gets the mic, then pimps his Derrick Thomas jersey to the KC fans. He’s seen the Playboy magazine, he says, and the girls like to show off, and he likes them better with their clothes off. They give a whole new definition to the words “beef jerky.” But then, out pops Rey Mysterio, as apparently he’s Cena’s replacement for Eddie in their tag match tonight.
~ COMMERCIAL BREAK 7 ~
Another recap of Eddie getting escorted out of the building.
Match #4, The Main Event: John Cena & Rey Mysterio vs. The Big Show and Chavo Guerrero (w/ Chavo Guerrero Sr.)
Chavo Guerrero starts off against Rey. Lockup. Chavo with a high takedown into a headlock. Rey with a wristlock and Chavo pushes him out. Rey jumps on Chavo’s shoulders, punches him, then hits a head scissors. Chavo comes back with a face drop as he tags in The Big Show. Show picks up Rey and tosses him into the turnbuckle. Hand slap and a full body stomp by Show. High beel. Rey crawls for a tag, but Show denies him. Chavo in, kicking away at Rey’s midsection. Back suplex by Chavo into a cover for 2. Rey again tries to tag, but Chavo holds his leg. Show in. The crowd chants for Cena. Show clubs Rey’s back hard with his forearm. Chavo in. Rey battles back. He kicks Chavo in the face, then hits the Wheelbarrow Bulldog. Both men are down. Cena makes the tag and HE’S ON FIRE!! Back body drop to Chavo. Cena pumps up his sneakers and goes up top for the ax handle! Ruffle Shuffle elbow drop. Cena knocks Show off the arpon and tries to FU Chavo but Show comes in and boots Cena down. Show drags Chavo to the corner and tags himself in. Cole: “And now Cena is in trouble at the hands of a giant!” Cue commercial.
~ COMMERCIAL BREAK 8~
We come back to Show elbow dropping Cena’s injured knee. Cena tries to battle back, but eats a boot to the face. Cover is broken up by Rey. Vicious hand slap by Show. Chavo in. Uppercut to Cena, then a knee to the back. Cover for 2. Cena fights back with some hard shots, but Chavo fires back. Show in, stomping on Cena’s knee. Headbutt to keep Cena down. “Chavo sucks!” chants. Show taunts Cena, then knocks him down with a right hand. Hand slap in the corner. “Cena!” chant. Show runs into Cena’s feet. Cena leaps on Show’s back and applies a sleeper. Show hurls Cena over his body off him, but Show is weary from the hold. Rey is in, baseball sliding and QUICKLY attacking Show’s legs. Springboard senton from the top rope on Show! 1-2-NO! Show stumbles to the corner and Chavo tags in. Chavo tries the Snap Suplex Trifecta and nails it. Chavo goes up top, looking for a Frog Splash… and Rey moves out of the way! Rollup by Rey is broken up by Show, and Cena pounces on Show with a clubbing assault. They fight outside of the ring. Show whips Cena back first into the barricade. Show charges Cena but he ducks and Show crashes over the barricade. In the ring, Rey head scissors Chavo into 619 position… and connects! 1-2-3! Rey pins Chavo! Too little ring psychology in this match, but that didn’t make it unenjoyable to watch.
Winners: Rey Mysterio & John Cena
Match Rating: 6/10
Chavo Guerrero Sr. runs in the ring to attack Rey, but soon suffers an FU from Cena! Show comes into the ring to clothesline Cena and Chokeslam Rey. Show slobbers all over Cena before leveling him with a Chokeslam. Show heads up the ramp as we have carnage in the ring.
The replay Kurt’s opening video to hype his confession next.
~ COMMERCIAL BREAK 9~
Kurt Angle makes his way down to the ring. He grabs a mic, saying that many people have asked him why he attacked Eddie Guerrero last week. Here’s the truth: it was the right thing to do. He didn’t attack him for himself. He did it for us. He did it for the fans of SmackDown and all the WWE. He attacked Eddie Guerrero for America. He says that Eddie is a former drug addict. He tells children that it’s cool to lie, cheat, and steal. Well it’s not cool, Eddie, says Angle. The people of America and the SmackDown fans need to understand that America was built on morales and characters and we need to go back on our fundamental principles. He’s only one man, but someone has to be sacrified for the better of our nation. America has giving us the freedom of choice, and those choices must be made with a clear conscious. He doesn’t feel that Eddie has a clear conscious. “Eddie!” chant. Angle says it’s only a matter of time before Eddie falls off the wagon again, because that’s what all drug addicts do. Drug addicts, says Angle, are the last people we need to represent the WWE Championship. That’s why when Eddie won the title, Angle couldn’t just sit there and let him destroy the morales and character of this nation. Minor “Asshole!” chant. He says it hurt him to attack Eddie. He prayed over it, and he made a deal with the devil. He knows he’ll pay the price of sacrifice and scrutiny for what he’s done. But, he will put an end to the Eddie Guerreros of today to make this world a better place. Great American heroes ridiculed in the beginning are revered in the end. One day we’ll thank him, says Angle. We will thank him as a champion we can be proud of. End of Angle’s speech… and out pops Eddie Guerrero to attack Angle! The attack didn’t last too long as police and Heyman quickly separate both men. Heyman screams again at Eddie, saying he will not tolerate assaulting a woman or Kurt Angle on his show. He orders the cops to arrest Eddie, and that Eddie, as a champion, makes him sick. Angle taunts Eddie as the police escort Eddie up the ramp and to the backstage area. Angle is behind him, continuing the taunts and insults. The police place Eddie in a police car while Angle tells Eddie to spend a night in jail. “You’re no champion, Eddie. You’re nothing! You’re an embarrassment! And I’ll be proud to take that title from you!” End of show.
My Final Final Thought: This being my last SmackDown recap, I wanted this show to be good… I didn’t get my wish. Tonight was official “Let’s degrade Eddie and disgrace him as champion!” night. Once again, his drug addictions were brought to the table and they played of it again in perhaps the most venomous segments to date. If they’re trying to sell the fact that Eddie is a worthless champion, they’re doing a good job of it. That’s just ridiculous. Sure, you want to bring heel heat into the hype, but not in this way. Speaking of disgraces, a Cruiserweight Open? Please. Most of us clearly want to see a Chavo/Rey rematch, but instead we’re gonna get a Cruiserweight Clusterfuck. Ridiculous. Nothing good stood out from his show. The matches were all subpar. Everything overall was a major disappointment.
Although the show was bad, at least I managed to get a full report out tonight, since I announced last week that this would be my last… at least for a while. My job is consuming my night life, and getting home on time to watch SmackDown is becoming less and less of a possibility. Instead of posting half-assed reports or copying another source, I’ll step aside and let someone else take this job. Hopefully, our new SmackDown reporter, whoever he or she will be, will do this job gracefully and respectfully, as I’d like to think I have.
