Raven & Terry Funk WINNER: Raven & Funk at 7:14 (Raven pins Dinero)color=yellow> Match #7- Jeff Jarrett VS Chris Harris WINNER: Jarrett at 11:20 To discuss this week’s PPV with other TNA fans CLICK HERE… To read my thoughts on the action down at the Asylum make sure to read The XY Files every week exclusively on LOP. New columns are posted every Saturday afternoon. The Full Monty AJ Styles takes his turn telling us that stealing cable is wrong. We then start this week’s PPV off with a clip from last week showing Tenay getting fired. The clip goes on about the new DOA and who it could possibly be. This is followed by TNA’s opening music “Be A Man- The Remix” by Macho Man. Hudson will be filling in for Tenay and Tim Welsh is still announcing in place of Borash. Match #1- Team TNA (Jerry Lynn, Sonjay Dutt, Elix Skipper, Chris Sabin) VS. Team USA (Sharkboy, Jason Cross, Robert Strong, Jimmy Rave) First up is Cross & Skipper who lock up and exchange a few holds. Skipper gets Cross with a leg lariat and a two count follows. Skipper then does a standing lariat and receives another two count on Cross. Quick tag from Skipper to Lynn and Cross also tags in Sharkboy. Sharkboy comes in with an elbow off the top rope into an arm lock. Lynn fights back with a few punches but Sharkboy starts to chase him around by biting the back of his shorts. This doesn’t make Lynn too happy and he complains to the ref. The ref really doesn’t seem to care until Lynn personally shows him what Sharkboy was doing. Sharkboy uses the distraction to get a two count on Lynn. Sharkboy tags in Rave and Lynn immediately hits him with a clothesline so he can tag in Sabin. Sabin wastes no time hitting Rave with a hurricarana. Rave counters with a backbreaker and then a crucifix (nice!). Sabin returns the favor with a backbreaker of his own and tags in Dutt. Sabin flips Dutt into Rave who quickly tags in Strong. Dutt barely give him a chance to get in the ring before he nails him with a headscissors. Strong replies with a double arm DDT and quickly turns it into a side buster. He gets a two count for his troubles. They roll up and roll around for a bit each of them getting two counts in the process. Lynn and Cross both get tagged in and are ready to go again. They exchange a few forearms to the chest before the insanity begins. Everyone is going at it and there are finishers being used everywhere. Notable moves here are Sharkboy’s Deep Sea Dive and Dutt’s 450 into a hurricarana which was a sight to behold. There was so much action everywhere at this point that the cameras couldn’t keep up as they missed Sabin springboarding off the top rope to the outside onto everyone who was out there. Lynn and Cross are still the legal men and manage to get it back into the ring where Cross is in control of the match. Cross uses some psychology here as he remembers Lynn’s injured shoulder and works on it. Lynn attempts to get Cross up for a piledriver but can’t because of his shoulder. Cross goes up to the top rope but Lynn cheap shots him and pulls him off for a cradle piledriver to end the match. Winner: Team TNA at 7:20 Overall great match with some amazing spots. This was one of those matches that were hard to keep up with because of all the action. Dutt amazes me every time I see him but Cross looks to be one to watch also. As soon as Lynn gets the pin Jarrett attacks him. He reminds him that he was told last week if he lost the America’s Cup competition he would be fired. Jarrett names Elix Skipper as the new captain of Team TNA. Jeff Jarrett continues on the mic claiming that Callis and Stenenbaum “took care” of the new DOA and proclaims himself in charge. He calls out Harris since he decided to stand up to Jarrett two weeks ago. Jarrett claims, “no one on the roster can lace up my boots, let alone hold my jockstrap.” He then goes on to set a match for the two of them this evening and tells Harris to bring his balls. We now go to a video package for the New Franchise and 3LK. BG James refers to Michael Shane as the new French fries and the Heartbreak asshole (which was bleeped out.) We go to the back with Terry Taylor who is speaking with Douglas, Shane, and Tracy. He asks if there is trouble in paradise but Douglas responds that they have problems just like all families. He tells Shane that he needs to go out there tonight by himself and show everyone what he is made of. Shane calls out to Ron “The Truth” Killings by telling him that he is going to get his ass franchised tonight. No sooner is Shane done talking when Harris comes on-screen and grabs the mic. He informs us that it is on between him and Jarrett tonight and he is going to prove who is the better man. Match #2- Michael Shane w/ Tracy VS. Ron “The Truth” Killings w/ BG James BG James joins Hudson and West at the announcers’ table. Shane attacks Killings as soon as the bell rings. He grabs Killings head and rams it into the corner post then proceeds to stomp on his chest when he falls. Truth gets up and goes to the top rope for a legdrop and hiptoss slam. Chops are exchanged and Killings hits Shane with a side leg lariat for a two count. Killings now powerslams him and there are a few slaps to the face. Shane kicks Killings a few times and then begins to work on his leg. At this point Tracy tries to interfere but BG James gets up from the announcers’ table and stops her. In the meantime Shane has put the figure four on Killings and he is trying to reverse it. We get a few two counts here but Shane finally makes it to the ropes for a ropebreak. At this point Killings looks to be in major pain or is doing one great job of selling that knee injury. They go back and forth with the punches but then Killings follows up with a backdrop and flying forearm. Killings hits Shane with an ax kick. Now the camera cuts to the Spanish Announce Team who are located upstairs. We see Douglas attacking Konan, which cause BG to go for the save. This leaves Killings all alone with Shane and Tracy. Shane takes advantage of the distraction and tries to pin him but only gets a two count. He sets up Killings for a DDT but it is reversed. Killings pulls of a nice vertical suplex and goes right into a stunner. Tracy gets in the action by going up to the top rope. She dives off but Killings saw her coming and catches her. He then proceeds to powerbomb her. Shane hits Killings who then falls right on Tracy’s cast. He follows up with a superkick and that’s a three count. Winner: Shane at 7:02 The worst part of this match for me was the announcing. Hudson and West don’t have the chemistry thing going and throwing BG in the mix didn’t help matters any. West needs to quiet down once in a while and let Hudson do the play by play. The match wasn’t bad, just predictable. We all know by know that Tracy is going to interfere the first chance she gets. Let’s go to the back once again with Terry Taylor. He is standing by as Kash talks to the Redshirts. He tells them they better take care of Rhodes and El Leon. If they don’t Kash will take care of the Redshirts. Gilberti and Young are there as well discussing the upcoming Juggalo Street Fight. Young refuses to do it because of his hang-up with clowns. He says he is “not afraid, just uncomfortable.” Kash jumps in and says he’ll team with Gilberti instead. Gilberti also tells us he will reveal to us whether it was Simon or Swinger who signed the loyalty oath. Match #3- Red Shirt Security (Legend & Northcutt) VS. Dustin “Lone Star” Rhodes & El Leon Rhodes starts off with Legend brawling as soon as the bell rings. Irish whip into the ropes and then quick tags are made. Northcutt gives Leon a few good chops and then it’s time for some power moves. Leon hits him with a clothesline. Leon goes up on the ropes and powerslams Northcutt for a two count. A stiff kick by Leon then gets another two count before tagging in Rhodes again. Automatically Rhodes gets an inverted atomic drop followed by an uppercut that knocks Northcutt out of the ring. Leon knocks the Redshirts heads together and throws Legend into the ring. Rhodes gets in some offense here by ways of punches and kicks. The Redshirts begin one of many double team moves on Rhodes. Legend does a number on Rhodes and tags Northcutt in who then gets a two count. He gets Rhodes in a dragon sleeper but he manages to break away and try to go for a tag. At this point he needs to get that tag to survive and does but the ref didn’t see it. The ref tells Leon he has to get out. While Leon is arguing with the ref, the Redshirts take advantage of the distraction. Northcutt does a lateral press and then a chinlock. Rhodes gets out and goes off the top rope for a backslide and then pin but Legend is distracting the ref again. Legend does a lateral press and gets a two count. More double-teaming by the Redshirts happens. Rhodes still hasn’t given up but the Redshirts have him cornered. Rhodes manages a vertical suplex. Northcutt tags in and Rhodes barely pulls off a spinebuster. Finally he gets his chance to tag in Leon. Leon is fired up and more than rested at this point. He comes in the ring and starts attacking the Redshirts. He lands a superkick to Northcutt, which gets him a two count. At this point it is an all out brawl. Leon spears Legend as Rhodes throws Northcutt out of the ring. Northcutt goes to grab Leon just as Legend begins to attack Rhodes but instead hits his own partner. Rhodes restrains Northcutt while Leon hits Legend with an uranage for a three count. Winner: Rhodes & El Leon at 9:06 Post match run in by The Naturals who appear with their white powder attacking Rhodes. El Leon gets a chair and chases them out. This definitely wasn’t my favorite match of the evening. It wasn’t bad and there was a good bit of action but for some reason I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I should have. Maybe it’s the cold medicine… Terry Taylor is with the Gathering and Father James Mitchell. He asks them how they feel about Raven’s return this evening. Mitchell cuts a great promo about how the whole time Raven has been gone the Gathering has been laying out bodies one after another. He tells Raven if he is man enough to come to the ring tonight that the Gathering will be ready to give him a lesson in the ultra-violence. Dinero and Punk chime in with their thoughts. Punk tells us it is now time to quote the Gathering, nevermore. We now go to our announcers, Hudson and West, who are discussing how they haven’t seen the new DOA or Raven yet this evening. Jarrett said the new DOA will not be here but Scott says that he knows for a fact that he is. They discuss how there has been all day closed-door meeting going on at TNA. Backstage again but this time it is with Kash, Young, and the Redshirts. We see them arguing amongst themselves. Jarrett says something but the sound went bad for a few seconds so I wasn’t able to catch what he said. By the way things are going though I can take a guess. Jarrett hits Legend with a chair and they all leave while he lays unconscious on the ground. Next up is a video package of the Tenay and Fairplay interview a few weeks ago. They then show clips of Fairplay and Urlacher as well as Fairplay’s appearance on The Early Show. Lollipop is in the ring and she hands a paper to the announcer to read. It seems Fairplay has written his own introduction as it proclaims him to be a ladies man as well as other things. He’s still wearing the neck brace and has his arm in a sling. As he comes to the ring we see him talking away on his cell phone as if that is more important than his “Playing With Fairplay” segment. He breaks the bad news to us about Joannie not being able to make it. He claims she was making ridiculous demands to appear on the show. One of which was a framed picture of HHH who according to Fairplay he wasn’t able to find one large enough to fit HHH’s nose in it. He proceeds with the insults asking which is bigger, HHH’s nose or Joannie’s adam’s apple. He brags about his new weekly column in Sun magazine. He also speaks of a new CD that Joannie has out saying he illegally downloaded it and it was crap. He then goes on to list the people he is going to sue namely Joannie, Urlacher, Simon and Styles. AJ’s music hits and he comes to the ring. AJ tells Fairplay that he’s lucky he has bigger fish to fry this week because in another place or time “I’d break your neck.” He tells Fairplay he needs to deal with Abyss not Fairplay who isn’t “a monster, you’re more like an (crowd yells bitch) overgrown chia pet.” Fairplay tells AJ that if it wasn’t for his injuries he would kick his ass. AJ looks at him and says “Boo” causing Fairplay to jump out of the ring and try to run. AJ follows and drags him back to the ring and Abyss comes out to attack AJ. Match #4- Abyss VS. AJ Styles West and Hudson explain that there is a stipulation for this match. Whoever wins can pick a new tag team partner to reign as champs with. Abyss picks up on of the fichus trees that were in the ring from Fairplay’s segment and hits AJ with it followed by a chair shot. AJ goes down and Abyss picks him up to throw him into the stairs. AJ gets back up and they start to brawl. Abyss throws him into the rails and he’s down again. Abyss throws AJ into the ring and AJ uses his speed to avoid Abyss’s assault. AJ hits him with a spin kick, dropkick, and a hurricarana. He follows the combination up with a clothesline knocking Abyss to the floor. AJ goes to the top rope and nails him with a springboard bodyblock. Styles attempts a springboard DDT but Abyss sees him coming and catches him. Back in the ring Abyss takes control by choking AJ with the second rope. Abyss goes outside and sets up his table. He tries to set up a chokeslam but AJ manages to get out. Now Abyss tries a powerbomb but AJ counters with an enzugiri. Clotheslines by AJ follow. Abyss tries one too but AJ counters with a dropkick. Styles nails a hurricarana off the top rope and a two count follows. Styles goes out to get the table and brings it into the ring. While he is setting it up Abyss regains his bearings and grabs him by the throat. AJ reverses with a victory roll for another two count. He manages to get Abyss onto the table but while AJ went to the top rope he gets off the table and low-blowed AJ. Abyss tries a superplex but AJ reverse with a sunset flip powerbomb. Jarrett runs in and gives AJ the stroke causing a DQ even though it wasn’t officially announced. Winner: AJ by DQ at 10:35 Jarrett and Abyss try to put AJ through the table but he lands on the end instead of the middle. The table doesn’t break so they do it again. Harris runs in for the save and chases them out. These two put on a great match together all the time. AJ only gets better week after week. At this point of the night I’m just tired of seeing Jarrett involving himself with everything. color=limegreen> Taylor is in the back talking with Simon and Swinger. He says that one of them will be exposed tonight. Simon states once again that he did not sign the loyalty oath to Jarrett and says that he knows Swinger wouldn’t have either. Simon vows to get the clipboard so he can see the signature himself and put an end to it once and for all. We are now treated to a video package of ICP and Gilberti & Young. It shows clips from the last few weeks including the scene where Young talks about not liking clowns. We also see a clip of Kash telling Young that he needs to get over it and do his job or, of course, he’ll be fired. Match #5- Glenn Gilberti & Kid Kash VS. Insane Clown Posse Gilberti and Kash come into the ring and Kash starts throwing bread at the Juggalo section. ICP makes their way to the ring through the Juggalos in the crowd. This week’s shirts say “Anybody Killa.” As soon as they clear the crowd Kash goes off the top rope but they catch him and slam him into the railing. Shaggy starts brawling with Kash and then bodyslams him. Meanwhile Violent J is busy slapping Gilberti around but Gilberti retaliates with a clothesline. Lots of face paced action and the camera keeps switching back and forth so the rest may be confusing. Violent J Nails a spicolli driver on Gilberti and gets a two count. Kash joins them in the ring and they begin to double team Violent J. Gilberti helps Kash with a backdrop directly on to J. We get another two count. Violent J is trying his best to get in some offense but instead he gets a spear/clothesline from Gilberti and Kash. Shaggy decides to join back in and gets on the top rope to land a missile dropkick onto Gilberti and Kash. It’s Violent J’s turn to get on the ropes and he hits Kash with a moonsault. Shaggy goes up again for a legdrop but misses his target. Gilberti has had enough and he takes it outside the ring with Violent J. Who’s this on the ramp? Why, it’s David Young who appears to have temporarily recovered from his coulrophobia (fear of clowns; it’s your word for the day!) He doesn’t last long though because 2 Tuff Tony, ICP’s manager, comes out and attacks him. Back in the ring Violent J gets Kash in a sunset flip but Kash grabs the ref to avoid the roll-up. The ref pries him off only for Kash to grab him again. This time the ref pushes him off which helps Violent J complete the roll up. J gets the pin Winner: ICP at 5:37 Young comes in and give the ref a spinebuster. Hudson and West are getting upset by their actions and talking about how it is a $5,000 fine when you put your hands on the ref. Here comes Simon and Swinger to save the ref from any further abuse. Simon grabs the clipboard off of Kash and realizes that Swinger did indeed sign the oath. He is devastated. Swinger then attacks him and Gilberti, Young, and Kash join in. Blackshirt Security runs in to clear the ring of the rift-raft. I have to say this was my favorite match of the night. It was a lot of fun and ICP continues to surprise me each week. They may not be the best wrestlers in the world but you have to give them credit because they have a lot of heart. Taylor is interviewing Goldilocks. He wants to know why she turns on Watts the way she did. She claims that she tried to make it work and then goes on this psycho-woman babble about how men are all the same. Tenay interrupts (thanks god!) as he hangs up his cell phone. He says he needs to talk to Taylor immediately. Next they show a video package of Raven & the Gathering’s ongoing feud. It includes Funk calling out to Raven for help after his match with Sandman and the Gathering. Father Mitchell cuts a very good promo talking about how Raven is using Funk. Match #6- The Gathering (CM Punk & Julio Dinero) w/ Father James Mitchell VS. Raven & Terry Funk Everyone is in the ring and Raven’s music starts. No one has seen him yet this evening so they are not sure if he is even here…but he is! He comes down the ramp in vintage Raven gear (jean shorts and flannel shirt) and he looks like he means business. Dinero grabs a chair and hits Funk while Raven goes after Punk. He gets Punk in the corner and immediately starts with punches to the head as the crowd counts them out. The camera pans to Funk who is down and already bleeding from the chair shot. Raven sees this and goes after Dinero to throw him out of the ring. The Gathering starts to double team Raven with double superkicks, which knocks Raven out of the ring. Dinero goes out and starts the assault on Raven while Punk is in the ring yelling at Funk as he continuously kicks and punches him in his already bleeding head. Punk takes it to the outside and slams him into the railing. Dinero and Raven are still out there brawling away. Punk gets Funk back in the ring and is slapping his face. Funk staggers and collapses in the ring. Blood is pouring out of his head at this point. Punk does not let up but Funk starts to get in some offense with blows to the stomach and then manages to pull off a stunner. At this point Dinero comes back to the ring and Funk attacks with a flurry of punches. Funk attempts a spinning toehold to no avail. Punk gains control by shoving Funk into Dinero who capitalizes by rolling him up in a small package for a two count. Finally it begins to resemble a tag-team match. Dinero tags in and clobbers Funk with a perfect-plex. Dinero follows up with a senton off the middle rope but Funk manages to get his knees up in time to counter. Funk crawls over to tag in raven and Dinero makes the tag to Punk at the same time. Two fresh men in the ring and Raven is in control. Clotheslines to Punk and then he brings in the dirty, snotty rag. Clotheslines left and right from Raven to both Punk and Dinero. Funks comes in and gets Dinero with a stunner and then goes for a few rolling pins. Punk comes in to break the count. Raven gets in on the action with Dinero by using the Raven Effect, which ends the match. Winner: Raven & Funk at 7:14 After the pin Punk gives the beat-down to Raven. Mitchell comes down the ramp with something in his hand. It’s a stun gun! The Gathering is holding Raven so that Mitchell can use the gun on him but right as he goes to Funk dives in and takes it for Raven. Raven grabs the stun gun and runs after the Gathering and Mitchell while Funk is shown lying there and twitching. That had to be one of the most gruesome crimson masks I have seem for a while. It was almost reminiscent of the Mass transit incident. After Funk received the shock from the stun gun he was just laying there twitching. One has to wonder how that is all worth it in the end. Taylor is in the back with Scott D’Amore who is representing Team Cananda. It seems that the America’s cup was so successful that they are going to make it a fairly regular competition. Scott talks smack on Team TNA saying that he couldn’t believe that they allowed AAA to come into their home and beat them like that. He says that there is one thing that Canadians can do well and that is balls to the walls wrestling. He announces that on March 10th’s PPV there will be a competition between Team TNA and Team Cananda. Teddy Hart is announced as the captain but we are left guessing who else will be on their team. We go to the announcers and West shills the website. He announces matches for next week. We have 3LK VS The New Franchise and Abyss VS. AJ in a tables match. This isn’t going to be any ordinary tables match though. There will be a table in each corner of the ring. Interesting note: this will be TNA’s first official table match. We are told that Raven has a camera in the back and he has something to say. He talks about sitting at home for five weeks and thinking about what he has become. He found his old leather jacket, jean shorts, and flannel in a dusty old drawer and realized that he used to be so ruthless. He never cared for anyone before and that is where he went wrong this time. He thanks Mitchell for making him realize this and bringing back the old Raven. He then tells Mitchell that he plans to take his “bloody intestines and shove them down your throat with a rusty fork while you are being sodomized by your sidekicks.” He announces that next week he will have another new partner…. SABU! Match #7- The Main Event! Jeff Jarrett VS Chris Harris in a non-title match Jarrett makes his entrance and the crowd makes it very clear that they are not happy with him. He jaws back at the crowd and then the match begins. It starts off with an armdrag by Jarrett and then a poke to the eyes. Jarrett tries a hiptoss but Harris reverses it. Harris counters with an inverted atomic drop into a single leg cradle. This gets Harris a two count. Harris gets a roll up which leads to another two count. A reverse atomic drop and clothesline by Harris knocks Jarrett out of the ring. Harris takes it to the top rope and executes a slingshot crossbody onto Jarrett outside of the ring. They begin to brawl on the outside. Harris throws Jarrett into the steps but Jarrett gets back up and throws Harris into the railing. Harris whips Jarrett into the ringpost. Harris is on fire as he throws Jarrett on top of the announcers’ table next. They are both standing on top of it brawling when Jarrett manages to slam Harris into the table. As he is lying there Jarrett gets in a chairshot. Harris gets up and grabs the chair. He then slams it into Jarrett’s ribs. Back in the ring Harris is repeatedly throwing blows into Jarrett’s stomach. Jarrett gets Harris with a back leg sweep and turns it into a figure four leglock. Harris keeps trying to reverse it by rolling over and finally does. Jarrett manages to break out and starts punching Harris in the stomach. He follows this up with a sleeper hold but Harris counters with a back suplex. They are both down now and the ref starts the count out. Jarrett realizes what is going on and puts his arm over Harris for a two count. They are both back up and Harris throws some punches following by a flying lariat. He then goes for a full nelson body slam for another two count. Into the corner they battle and Harris gets a takedown for yet another two count. Harris tries a reverse splash but Jarrett gets out of the way. Time for a ref bump! Jarrett applies the stroke to Harris but the ref is down. Kash comes running from the back and rouses the ref. By this time the best Jarrett could get was a two count. Jarrett yells at Kash to get him the belt unfortunately for Jarrett, Harris saw it coming and ducked. Harris spears Jarrett (nice!) for a two count. They are still going strong. Next Harris goes for a tilt-a-whirl slam for two. Up tp the top rope but he misses Jarrett with the flying bodypress. Jarrett tries to stroke him again but Harris gets him with a swinging slide slam. The ref begins to count and Kash screams that if he counts to three he is FIRED! The ref stops the count and Harris looks at him with his hands in the air. Harris hits Kash off the apron and went up for a successful top rope legdrop. The ref goes for the count again but is stopped t two by Kash. Harris starts complaining and the ref asks him what should he do?! They want to fire me! Jarrett has the belt again and it connects with Harris. The ref wanted a DQ but knew better than to push his luck at this point. Instead he counted the three for a pinfall. Winner: Jarrett at 11:20 Okay, I can’t believe a bullshit chant didn’t start in the audience during this match. Jarrett is acting like a long lost Guerrero because he sure knows how to lie and cheat to win. The plus side is that Harris got to show everyone what he was made of. In spite of Jarrett this was a fantastic match. Jarrett gets on the mic and starts the trash talking. He tells everyone “that is how it’s done.” In the middle of Jarrett flapping his gums, TENAY appears on the ramp and gives an emotional speech. He tells how Jarrett took away his livelihood in what he loves to do and how he was so humiliated last week. He informs Jarrett that he knows who the owners are and they are watching. According to Tenay they are not very happy with Jarrett’s egotistical running of the show. Tenay announces that the new DOA is here. He was rehired but this man who will take all the power away from Jarrett. VINCE RUSSO! That’s all for this week folks. Let me know what you thought of my debut here.
