I had the pleasure of attending WWE Raw live from Bakersfield, and what a fantastic show that was. I went with two of my good buddies and we both walked out of the arena very pleased. The arena was about 90% filled with most of the upper deck on one side taped off. I’d say the crowd was a good 12,000 strong.

Enough chit chat. On to the results!

Dark Match #1: Rosey vs. Greg Ruetgers
I do not know this jobber, nor am I positive that I got his name correctly. All I know is that he has a giant tattoo on his back, kinda resembling one of Triple H’s logos. Rosey was very strong in the first part of the match, keeping Greg grounded and posing for the crowd. Greg got in some minimal offense as the crowd actually erupted into a “Rosey!” chant. Rosey fired back with a samoan drop, and both men are down. Rosey gets up first and delivers some hard punches followed up by a back body drop and a body slam. He then runs a fill circle around the downed Greg and drops a leg across his throat for 2. One spinning Rock Bottom-like finisher later and our S.H.I.T. is victorious. Jobber matches don’t usually impress me unless the jobber is spectacular in a losing effort. This Greg person was anything but.
    Winner: Rosey
    Match Rating: 2.5/10

To begin the Sunday Night Heat matches, Al Snow and The Coach come down to a chorus of boos. In a funny moment, Snow pointed to himself and the crowd cheered. When he pointed to Coach, he got plenty of boos. He did this back and forth until they finally took their seats at the announce booth.

SNH Match #1: Matt Hardy, Mark Jindrak & Garrison Cade vs. The Dudleyz (Bubba, D-Von, Spike)
The ref tries to keep both teams separated from each other before the match starts. Hardy and D-Von lockup to start. Matt takes early control, but D-Von returns the offense and causes the Sensei of Mattitude to roll out of the ring. He comes back in and tags Jindrak, who meets a flying forearm by D-Von. Cover for 2. Bubba gets the tag, executing a headlock takedown. Spike is tagged and he delivers a top rope double axe handle to Jindrak. He follows that up with a head scissors and stomps on Jindrak in the corner. D-Von in. He hits a flying elbow, but the pinfall is broken up by Cade. Cade gets the tag and applies a headlock. D-Von rallies back, but gets takedown down again. Jindrak tags in to keep D-Von grounded. Matt gets the tag as the crowd chants “We want tables!” Matt eats D-Von’s elbow, but manages to pull off the Side Effect for 2. Stretch submission applied by Matt. D-Von gets out of it but takes an elbow from Matt. Cade in. He stomps on D-Von, then tags Jindrak. He pins D-Von, but Bubba breaks it up. Jindrak misses a charge and crashes into the top turnbuckle. Bubba gets the hot tag and HE’S ON FIRE!! A back body drop and swinging neckbreaker on Jindrak only gets a 2 count. Samoan drop also gets 2. Bubba clears away all opponents and Spike nails a cross body on Jindrak. Cover, and Matt tries to break it up only to hit his own partner! That allows the Dudleys to hit the WASSAP! No tables called, but they signal for the 3-D. Matt telegraphs it and clears the ring. Both Dudleys didn’t see Spike get hit with a double team move by Jindrak and Cade and they score the pinfall. Nice match.
Winners: Matt Hardy, Mark Jindrak & Garrison Cade
    Match Rating: 5/10

SNH Match #2: Rene Dupree (w/ Rob Conway) vs. Val Venis (w/ Lance Storm)
Wow. Dupree is one tan dude. As soon as both men lock up the crowd erupts in a “USA!” chant. Venis with a fireman’s carry takedown into a wristlock. Venis is tripped up by Conway and Dupree takes him back down with a forearm. Dupree takes control with a snapmare and a knee in the ropes. He levels Venis with a forearm to the back of the head. Arrogant pose to the crowd, then covers for 2. Dupree hits a falling knee, does a little jig, but misses a double falling fist and Venis nails a full nelson slam. Venis fires up with a boot to the face, clothesline, and a running forearm. Venis punches away at Dupree in the corner, but he pushes Venis away. Venis answers back with a slam. He goes up top. Conway looks to whack Venis with the French flag, but Storm makes the save. Venis goes up high for the Money Shot… but Dupree moved! Dupree connects with a Death Valley Driver and covers Venis for 3. Another nice match.
    Winner: Rene Dupree
    Match Rating: 4.5/10

SNH Match #3: Rico (w/ Miss Jackie) vs. Test
Rico starts by jumping into Test’s arms, which he didn’t really appreciate. Rico plays around like an ambiguously gay man, and Test flattens him with a clothesline. He stomps the hell out of Rico and does all he can to make sure he doesn’t get back to his feet. Test attacks Rico in the corner and connects with a charge as Jackie is cheering for her partner and pounding on the mat. Test disapproves and he stomps on her hand! He knees Rico against the ropes, but Rico comes back with a jawbreaker. He comes roaring back with a flying forearm and a neckbreaker, then mounts Test and spanks him. The pissed Test eats a roundhouse kick and that unique wraparound kick Rico does. A takedown on Test and that gets 2. Test shoves Rico and he almost crashes into Jackie on the apron. Test misses with the Big Boot, and Rico rolls up Test to score the pinfall. Rico’s homosexual antics are tolerable, and the crowd laughed it up. The match itself wasn’t too exciting.
    Winner: Rico
    Match Rating: 4/10

SNH Match #4: The Hurricane vs. Jon Heidenreich
Ha ha ha, wow. Heidenreich came out to literally NO REACTION. Heidenreich goes on the assault almost immediately. High slam gets 2. He runs into Hurricane’s elbow. The Hurricane shoves the big man away and causes him to fall over the top rope. Hurricane nails a plancha to the outside. Back in the ring, Hurricane avoids a Heidenreich move then thumbs him in the eyes. Hurricane leaps off top but Heidenreich catches and presses him. He drops Hurricane on the top rope, then sidewalk slams him and that’s it for the 3. Hurricane is mega over. Heidenreich is a unover as it gets. Why o why did Hurricane have to job to this guy?
    Winner: Jon Heidenreich
    Match Rating: 2.5/10

    ~ END OF HEAT ~

Jericho defeating Kane via DQ: 3/10

Shawn Michaels defeating Chris Benoit: 7.5/10

    Raw Off-Air Notes
After the show went off the air and Triple exited up the ramp, Stone Cold Steve Austin’s music hit and he came speeding out on his ATV as Benoit and Michael’s are still recovering in the ring. Michaels rolls out of the ring and heads up the ramp, but Austin catches him and convinces him to come back to the ring. He gets in the ring and calls for three beers. He gets the mic and congratulates Benoit on his effort. You win some and you lose some, he said. He’s proud that both men will be headlining Wrestlemania XX in a Triple Threat Match against Triple H. He praises Benoit and Michaels and tosses them each a beer. He asks that they each shake hands. Austin shakes hand with Michaels and then with Benoit. Benoit and Michaels stare at each other for a moment before Michaels extends his hands. Although reluctant at first, Benoit shook hands with Michaels (getting a major pop from the crowd) and they all celebrated with their beers. Austin only had one beer, so he called for more. He did his usual mounting of the turnbuckles while guzzling down Miller Lites. He did this as Benoit and Michaels individually made their way up the ramp. Austin wasn’t done yet, though. He called Lilian Garcia into the ring. Garcia praises the great crowd in attendance, and Austin says he enjoys Lilian. He enjoys it even more if she’d sing him a song. He runs down a list of country names, among them Bakersfield’s own Merle Haggard. Lilian obviously didn’t know any of Austin’s favorite, so he asked her to perform her single on the WWE Originals CD, and she did. (she has a great voice, but the song is horrible) She downed a couple beers with Austin. After he drank down a crapload of beers, he and Lilian got on the ATV and they rolled out of the arena before saluting the crowd.

Nothing noteworthy went on during the breaks. The T-Shirt guy came out twice and got booed on the way out. Jackass didn’t even fire close to my section… The crowd was very split on the Benoit/Michaels. Every single thing one did got half boos and half cheers.

    Thank you all for reading!
