- As we reported over the past few days, Maven suffered an injury to his elbow at the Raw-Brand house show in Des Moines, IA on Friday. Here is an update on Maven's condition from his official website:
"Well, the news a lot of you fans feared is true. Saturday reports began to surface about an injury to Maven's elbow which might have caused his absence Saturday and Sunday night at scheduled house show events.
After speaking with Maven on the phone, he did confirm the injury. His current diagnosis after having a preliminary x-ray yesterday is that he has a radial head fracture.
Here is a brief explanation of the injury:
Trying to break a fall by putting your hand out in front of you seems almost instinctive. But the force of the fall could travel up your lower forearm bones and dislocate your elbow. It also could break the smaller bone (radius) in the forearm. The breaks can occur at the wrist (Colles fracture), or near the elbow at the radial "head."
Radial head fractures are common injuries, occurring in about 20 percent of all acute elbow injuries. They are more frequent in women than in men and occur most often between 30 and 40 years of age. Approximately 10 percent of all elbow dislocations involve a fracture of the radial head. As the upper arm bone slides back into its appropriate place after the dislocation, it can chip off a piece of the radial head, resulting in a fracture.
This is basically exactly what happened to Maven. He stated that after he and Matt had a pretty good much, he went for his oh-so-famous sky high Crossbody. When coming down, his arm and elbow region caught the mat. He said that while he is still in some pain, his arm already feels 100% better than it did yesterday, just two days after the injury occurred.
As of now, the diagnosis was that he will miss 6-8 weeks for the injury. He is slated to see a surgeon in Maryland tomorrow and results might be better. They are going to go into his elbow area and clean up the chipped bone fragments, etc. and make it good as new.
Maven definitely prides himself on getting back from an injury like this sooner than expected. The hope is for a 4-6 week return that could possibly put Maven back in the ring with plenty of time before Wrestlemania XX in Madison Square Garden.
Further more, fans will be able to check back here often for updates on his condition and hopefully, some inside info on his injury and rehab, etc. We are hoping to conduct a second interview with Maven either later this week or sometime next week and expect to have transcripts of those interviews right here.
Now, some might see this as a little rib towards Randy Orton, but this is legitimate as can be. If you would like to send a get well message to Maven himself, please email getwellmaven@mavenhuffman.com. Maven's deeply appreciates all the fan support he has received as of late and wants to once again thank his fans for everything."
