Backstage, Coach announces to the full roster that he is in charge tonight and has booked an Over-the-Top Rope Challenge later tonight for the chance to enter the Rumble number at #30. To get into the challenge you would have to win your own qualifying match. In what may be the worst stipulation ever, those that lost were also barred entirely from the Rumble. The match list was left on the door. Jericho wanted to cash in his favor to simply skip his match, but Coach refused, saying the favor was for Bishoff and not him. The opening video kicked off the show, which led right to the first qualifying match. The very first match saw Booker T and Rob Van Dam defeat Matt Hardy and Christian via pin fall to advance to the #30 challenge later tonight.

I missed quite a bit of the story for the show here, since I decided to ignore the announcers who spoke about everything but the match. Chris Jericho defeated Rene Dupre via submission the Walls of Jericho and qualified to join the #30 over the top rope challenge. The crowd was really hot for Jericho during this. Another Randy Orton vignette aired, showing the comedy side of “Hardcore Legend Mick Foley.”

Jericho was backstage with Christian, bragging about the win and the chance to be the number thirty entrant in the Royal Rumble. Christian asked to replace Jericho in the challenge later tonight. Jericho refused the favor. The announcers agreed it was an absurd request. A video with voice over from last week detailing the former friendship and current of Shawn Michaels and HHH aired.

After a match that included back riding and butt slapping Mark Henry defeated Rico via pin fall with a body slam to advance to the challenge. Orton and Batista were talking backstage when Ric Flair came in for an amazing Horsemen-style promo detailing the plan for an all Evolution Wrestlemania Main Event with Orton vs. Hunter for the straps and Flair and Batista defending the Tag Titles.

Maven eliminating the Undertaker is shown as a Royal Rumble flashback. Despite all rational thought and the laws of physicsSpike Dudley defeated Kane via disqualification to qualify for the challenge when Spike pushed the ref and he thought it was Kane. After the match Kane went livid.

Video from recent house shows aired in an attempt to get the attendance numbers up. After the best WWE three way match possible from power guys Goldberg defeated Scott Steiner and Test via pin fall on Test after a jackhammer. The crowd was wild for Bill in this one, and popped nicely when he advanced to the challenge. Another Randy Orton vignette aired, declaring the shameful facts of Mick Foley. Steve Austin watched this one, shook his head in disbelief, and road off on his ATV.

Butterbean humiliating Bart Gunn is the Wrestlemania recall. Austin came to ringside and talks about Mick Foley’s recent cowardice and their travels together. Austin asks Foley to show up at the Royal Rumble to hand a can of whoop ass to Randy Orton else he needs to drive to get the Hardcore Legend on his little ATV. Austin sounded sick and had a hard time speak during this promo.

The WWE Originals CD signing was a success apparently. Backstage Molly Holly gloated to Trish about being the Woman’s Champion. Christian approached her and said he knew how she really felt about Jericho… she hates him. He just came to clear the air and tell her he hates her too. Then, some camera phone pictures of their fun last week’s after the show. After distraction by Theodore Long allowed a roll upJazz defeated Lita. Hurricane gave an interview saying tonight he believed was the start of him defying the odds to go on to main event Wrestlemania.

Members of the choke artist Green Bay Packers are in the audience. Video from Orton calling Foley out last week is shown. Randy Orton defeated The Hurricane via pin fall despite the super hero’s excellent effort that had the hot crowd enthralled. After the match Evolution came down to ringside and the Dudley Boyz attacked. Coach ran down and said that this doesn’t happen on his show, and demanded they leave at the count of three. They gave him the 3D through the table. Mark Henry confronts Jericho about the challenge match soon enough. Jericho asks Henry if he washes himself with ass. Mark replies his stink is all over Trish.

It is revealed that after the assault by Kane, Spike Dudley will not compete in the over the top challenge. The rules were displayed on screen for the main event, and the entrants came down.

After fighting through all five other men, including Mark Henry and Randy Orton at the very end Goldberg defeated RVD, Booker T, Mark Henry, Chris Jericho and Randy Orton when he threw Orton over the top rope into the other two present members of Evolution. He celebrated to the roar of the crowd.
