Update on Kevin Nash's WWE status, WWE having problems with ECW footage, more

  • As many of you know, Kevin Nash hasn't been seen on WWE TV since Summerslam when he participated in the Elimination Chamber match for the World Heavyweight Championship. Nash was off filming a part in the upcoming movie "The Punisher", as well as having surgery done to correct various injuries that the former WWE Champion was suffering from. Nash's current WWE contract is set to expire on December 31st and there has been talk on if the WWE will resign Nash (if they do, it is expected to be for much less money than Nash's current contract). There is word going around that Nash would be willing to accept some sort of backstage role with the company for the right money. However, there has been no word from either camp on how the contract negotiations are going. There were some rumors going around that Nash could be joining up with his former Outsider buddy Scott Hall to work a HUSTLE-1 event on January 4th, but both sides were unable to come to terms. Also, Nash hasn't been medically cleared by doctors to get back into the ring so any talk of Nash wrestling right now or in the very near future is unlikely.

  • The WWE has been contacting several former ECW superstars recently about getting their permission to use their likeness on future WWE releases where ECW footage is being used. The WWE purchased all of the assets from Extreme Championship Wrestling in a bankruptcy proceeding earlier in the year, which included the large ECW video library. However, the WWE is not well received on all fronts from former ECW superstars. Guys like Joey Styles and "The Franchise" Shane Douglas have been very outspoken about how they feel that the WWE doesn't have any right using any of the ECW footage they appear in, due to their specific issues with ECW management prior to the closing of the company. The first major use of ECW footage in a WWE released product will be when the WWE releases the upcoming two disk Mick Foley DVD (coming out on January 20th, 2004), which will feature several of Mick's ECW matches with guys like Sabu, Mikey Whipwreck, Terry Funk, and others.

  • Former ECW superstar Chilly Willy, who is a member of the Armed Forces, left today to return to Baghdad after flying home to spend time with his family over the holidays.
