WM XX Ideas Part II
I asked if readers of the Forzese View wanted a part two of my Wrestlemania ideas column and I must say that I was overwhelmed with the positive response I got. So with that being said this will be part two of my WresleMania XX ideas. Remember these are just my thoughts, and I in know way have any insider information that any thing I write might or is going to possibly happen. The newest, big rumor making rounds is that fans want a Rock vs. Cena match for Mania. Rock has already come forward to say no, and that he will not be doing that match right now. Whether you agree or not with the Rock is your option but I feel it should definitely not happen at Mania.
First, Rock and Cena are both babyfaces, and even though their promos against each other might be history worthy it will confuse the fans. A baby face vs. baby face match will make fans choose which wrestler they like more, and if more fans choose Rock, (and I feel that they would) then this could really hurt Cena’s credibility and popularity. Cena also has not established himself enough yet to be put in that type of high profile match. Getting put over by a guy that will be gone for the rest of the year will not help Cena get any more popular than he will get on his own by wrestling other Smackdown roster guys. So if not Rock then who right? Well, here we go again as I put my booker’s hat back on for another Mania column.
John Cena at the Royal Rumble needs to single handedly eliminate his archrival Big Show. Big Show, feeling humiliated will demand that Paul Heyman set up a match for No Way Out between Show and Cena for the US title. Cena will win at No Way Out because of a disqualification from A-Train just as Cena was about to win after the FU.Show being upset that he can not defeat Cena and that Cena keeps getting the better of him demands one final match against Cena.Cena says any match that Show wants as long as the title is on the line. Heyman overhears Cena say any type of match and orders that at WrestleMania Cena will be in a gauntlet match for the US title. Cena vs. A-Train/Matt Morgan/Big Show for the belt.
Cena needs to win at Mania so that he can be a mid-card champion for a while leading into the end of the year when at that point Cena should be ready to become WWE champion. I say Cena should win the WWE title by Survivor Series of 2004.Cena needs to establish himself as a mid-card champion before he gets to go for the WWE title and this would be the way to do that as opposed to facing Rock at Mania.Cena will be the man in 2004 don’t bet against that, but he needs to build himself up as a worthy mid-card baby face champion first.
The Rock will have bigger things to do at Mania then face Cena.Rock should be a special attraction and not in a throw away match at Mania. Now that Flair and Batista are Tag Team Champions they first need to block the petition to allow Austin to return to the WWE.Bischoff needs to get the board to enforce the law here as it pertains to Austin as well regardless of one million signatures on a petition. At the Rumble Foley (or the new co-gm) books a match of Flair/Batista vs. Cade/Jindrak for the tag titles. During the match Orton and HHH take out the referee so that Evolution can destroy Cade/Jindrak with a four on two. Rock, as a surprise will come out and make the save, clearing the ring and then giving the rock bottom to Batista.Jindrak will cover Batista as the ref gets back in the ring (the ref was outside trying to maintain order) to count the three for the new tag champions.
This feud will be on-going until a match for Mania is made by Bischoff.Rock will go on a campaign to get his friend Stone Cold reinstated, and to disrupt anything Bischoff or Evolution try to accomplish. Bischoff will then make a handicapped match for Mania pitting Rock against Batista/Flair and if Rock loses he joins Austin on the unemployment line. The new Raw co-gm (or Foley) then informs Bischoff that by order of Linda McMahon the match will take place, but if Rock wins Austin gets back on Raw and that Austin himself will be the guest enforcer for the match at Mania. Obviously Rock needs to win this match to reinstate Austin, and bring the Rattlesnake back to TV. What he will do after that is anyone’s guess.
Next starting around the Rumble timeframe or shortly thereafter a feud needs to begin when, as HBK is out in the ring giving an interview the leader of Mattitude comes out to interrupt. Matt lets HBK know that he is the new showstoppa on Raw and that HBK is a has been who’s time has passed. Matt and HBK need to have a match at Mania because that match would really get the stock of Matt Hardy to rise. Matt is definitely ready to be a main event player on Raw, and a match at Mania against one of the greatest Mania performers of all time would do the trick. At Mania though there needs to be some surprises. After HBK lands Sweet Chin Music on Matt, out of nowhere Jeff Hardy needs to appear and stop HBK from getting the win. With the refs back turned Jeff needs to Swanton HBK and help Matt get the victory. Just as Matt and Jeff start to double team HBK, Hall and Nash come out and make the save. This will be one final tribute to the kliq. Matt however still picks up the win, the bragging rights and maybe a new Mfer.
If this can hold out until then I think that Los Geurreros should face the World’s Greatest Tag Team for the WWE tag titles. This match would be their usual great action with some real life heat thrown into the mix, but this is where I would turn Chavo on Eddie.WGTT needs to be the champions going into this match with the stipulation from Paul Heyman being that if the Geurreros do not win this match then they never again get another title shot. This will be fast paced action all the way through, but the ending will see Eddie just about to pin Charlie Haas when Chavo pulls Eddie off of Charlie and proceeds to beat the hell out of him with the WGTT helping out. Chavo and Eddie can then go into a small feud after this leading into the May Smackdown only PPV.Chavo can then hopefully stand on his own so that Eddie can get back into the WWE title picture. Maybe some Chavo vs. Cena US title matches would be good.
The cruiserweights should get an opportunity to steal the show at Mania. Vince should see if these guys can draw at the big event and the cruisers deserve the chance to showcase themselves. Heyman will announce a ten man over the top rope battle royal for Mania. The participants will be Tajiri, Rey, Kidman, Noble, London, Spanky, Gowen, Scotty 2 Hotty, Nunzio, and Moore. The catch in this match is that the last two men left in the ring together are then involved in a ladder match. I would have the last two wrestlers being Rey and Moore where Rey leaves Mania the new cruiserweight champion. Shannon Moore will get a great rub working a match of this magnitude against Rey, and Moore could really become a breakout star for the Smackdown brand. There is life after being the number one Mfer.
My final match would be a King of the Ring match. This match will be a fatal four way, fan appreciation match where WWE will conduct a bogus pole to determine the two entrants from each brand that the fans selected. The four selected will be Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, RVD, and Chris Jericho. The winner will get a one-time title shot whenever they choose to have it. Chris Benoit will win this match and be crowned the KOTR.Benoit should defeat Lesner sometime this year (maybe the May PPV) and carry that WWE title. Benoit should win it and then go on to face Cena at Survivor Series where he passes the torch to Cena. The big surprise will be that for the coronation, have Howard Finkel announces that there is a surprise presenter of the KOTR crown. All of a sudden Bret “Hitman” Hart’s music plays and out comes the Hitman to present the new King his crown. Bret should be at Mania and he should be respected there as one of the greatest of all time to ever step foot in a WWE ring. Let him do his farewell speech the next night on Raw. Talk about ratings for Raw if that were to happen.
Bottom Line:
There you have it my WrestleMania XX card. That makes twelve matches all together, I don’t know if that is too many or not, but WWE is planning five hours so it is feasible. I would also have the announce team become for Mania only, a three man team with Bobby Heenan joining Raw and Jesse Ventura joining Smackdown. How great would the announcing be then? The following again is my Mania card which includes part one and two of this column.
Taker vs. Kane
Goldberg vs. Lesner Title vs. Title
Dudley Boyz with Animal vs. La Resistance vs. Cade/Jindrak/Maven
Orton vs. Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat for the IC title
HHH vs. Foley
Hogan vs. Savage
Rock vs. Flair/Batista handicapped reinstatement match with Austin as special enforcer
Cena vs. A-Train/Matt Morgan/Big Show Gauntlet for the US title
HBK vs. Matt Hardy
Los Geurreros vs. WGTT for the WWE tag titles
Cruiserweight battle royal/ladder match
KOTR match fatal four way Angle vs. Benoit vs. RVD vs. Y2J
Could it work and could all of this happen at Mania? I think it definitely could and I for one would not mind shelling out fifty or so dollars to see it either. We will have to wait and see what direction WWE goes in the year 2004, but either way I’m sure the card will be great. Look closely and you will see a healthy mix of youngsters, veterans and legends in the mix, and I for one think that this Mania should be about all three. I hope you liked my booking of WrestleMania XX because I enjoyed writing it. Until next time that’s just my view.
