- Thanks to BowlerDudeLv for sending this report in:
I just got back from the Raw house show here in Vegas, and thought I would send in a report. The last two times we had raw talent here it was for the Raw Roulette. The arena at the Thomas and Mack Center wasn't to full the top sections were completely blacked out and the bottom only about 3/4 full. I would say it was probably the smallest crowd I have ever seen attend a major promotions wrestling event that I have gone too. The crowd that was there seemed on and off throughout most of the night. On to the matches:
First The Coach came out to inform us he would be our ring announcer for the night. I am not sure if it was the mic. or what, but it was hard to understand him through most of the night.
Match 1: Lance Storm and Val Venis d La Resistance.
La Resistance came out during the national anthem to tremendous heat. I guess anyway you can get heat it go for it. They were babbling on in French, and out came the new hip-hop duo of Storm and Venis. This was actually a really nice opener. The crowd seemed into it, and I enjoy Storm's new gimmick. The match went back and forth until Venis and Storm hit a version of the Hart Attack for the 1,2, 3. Afterwards Venis gave his towel to a lady in the front row to a tremendous pop. I was really impressed I can see Venis and Storm really making a run for the Tag Team Titles.
Match 2: Jon Heidenreich d Nick Dinsmore
Easily the worse match of the night. Both men were shaky, and the crowd consistently were throwing in the boring chant. Heidenreich had no crowd support, and most people do not know the OVW talents. Heidenreich at one point went for a big boot, which was supposed to miss landing him on the top rope. While he did miss he also missed the rope, and basically had to pull his leg over the top it looked real bad. Heidenreich hit a spinning sidewalk slam for the three count.
Match 3: Lita and Trish Stratus d Women's Champion Molly Holly and Jazz.
I know how much of a beating the ladies get for the wrestling skills, but this easily was one of the top three matches of the night. The crowd was really in to both Trish and Lita from the start, and Molly really plays here role as a heel. I also believe this is one of jazz's if not first match since her injury. The crowd really ate this match up. We saw the STF from Jazz, some good double team moves from both teams, a victory role from Trish, and Lita's DDT on Molly Holly for the win. No blown spots, and huge crowd reaction these ladies really put on a match.
Match 4: Spike Dudley d Test w/ Stacy Kiebler
Test came out, and talked about how hot Las Vegas was, and how hot Stacy was, and that we were going to get to see her shake her ass and dance for us. Of Course as she was about to begin Test dismissed her, and relegated her to a chair. This was a decent match I have trouble watching matches were there is a 150lb guy vs a monster, but it was good. Stacy kept getting involved, and at one point grabbed a chair that Test was going to hit Spike with. The distraction allowed for Spike to get his senses together, and move out of the way causing Test to hit the ropes with the chair. In turn he hit himself allowing Spike to roll Test up for the pinfall.
After the match Test attacked Spike to which Garrison Cade and Mark Jindrak came out for the save. The questioned Spike about the Dudley's and attacked him. Setting up our next match.
Match 5: Dudley Boyz (c) d Cade and Jindrak to retain their titles.
This was another good match. We saw the trademark wazzup, and get the tables, and the crowd did seem pretty into it. I really have a problem buying Cade and Jindrak as heels but time will tell if they can get over as such. The finish saw the 3D for the win.
Match 6: The Hurricane d Matt Hardy V1
This for me was one of the bigger shocks of the night. I assumed, because Matt just transferred over from Smackdown they would try to build him up. Both Hardy and Hurricane had their supporters. It was nice to see Hurricane give his mask to a kid in the front row. It really brings the crowd into the match. Both men gave it their all and hit all their trademarks. At one point Matt Hardy did something to The Hurricane causing the ref to go over to him while distracted non-other than Lita came out and hit the Litacuranna on her ex. I believe this is the first time she has done this move in a WWE ring since her broken neck it was pretty cool, and got a huge pop. This allowed Hurricane to hit the Eye of the Hurricane for the win.
Match 7: Steven Richards w/ Victoria d Rico w/ Miss Jackie
As I guess he has been doing other house show Steven was the face in this match. I am not sure how well he has gotten over as a face other places, but it took a while here. I'm sure it didn't help that basically both men are still known as heels and Rico is from Vegas so naturally the crowd would pull for him. It was real nice to see Richards enter the ring like Crash Holly and made reference to him throughout the match. This technically was a good match. There were quite a few sexual innuendoes from Rico which was a little odd, but I guess that is his character. At one point Miss Jackie came in and hit a flipping neckbreaker on Richards leading to Victoria hitting the Widows Peak on Jackie. The finish saw Richards hit the StevieT for the win.
Match 8: Evolution (Randy Orton and Batista) d Booker T and Maven
This was another nice match. Orton really plays the cocky a-hole role real well and the crowd and ladies especially really eat it up. The crowd was really behind Booker T and the match saw the Massive Powerbomb by Batista on Maven for the win.
Match 9: RVD (c) d Chris Jericho d Christian in a Triple Threat to retain his belt.
Rvd easily got the largest ovation of the night. Jericho and Christian came in with some heat since coach announced them as the guys who helped but Steve Austin out of wrestling. I have to say that I was a bit disappointed with this match. I guess because I think of these guys as the top technical specialist on Raw I was expecting to much. The match just seemed a little off, and rushed. It just did not seem to click. Although RVD did hit an awesome frog splash for the win.
In between the coach invited a young fan in to the ring so his parents could take a picture. He asked him what he thought of the coach and he said he "You suck" to a tremendous reaction. Truthfully one of the highlights of the night. It was hilarious.
Match 10: Goldberg (c) d Kane by DQ to retain the World title
This was an all right match the crowd was really into it. For me personally Goldberg does not necessarily come off as big of a bad ass as he once was, but he is still quite intimidating. Overall everything came off well. Kane hit his off the top rope clothesline, and there was a lot of physicality. The only bad thing about the match was that within the last minute of the match Goldberg went for a Gorilla Press on Kane leading to a slingshot on the top rope. Goldberg must have been tired, because he really could not get him up, and Kane just kind of slipped out of his hands onto the rope. It looked very awkward, and killed the crowd a bit. This was followed by the spear and an attempt at the jackhammer however Evolution's Randy Orton and Batista came out and attacked Goldberg leading to the DQ afterwards kane chokeslammed Goldberg.
Coach then thanked us for coming, and assured us there would be a new World's Champion at Armageddon. This led to Goldberg spearing the coach.
Top Pop's RVD Goldberg Trish Stratus/Lita Booker T The Dudley's
Top Jeers: Christian and Jericho La Resistance The Coach Evolution Molly and Jazz
Overall it was an awesome night. It was nice to see the faces really interacting with the crowd slapping their hands, hugging them, posing for pictures and so on. I can remember that the faces always came out slapping hand as a way to connect with the crowd and think it is a good way to build a fan base.
