- Interview with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin by Daniel Robert Epstein:
Of all the wrestlers in the world, I never expected Stone Cold Steve Austin to be a Star Trek fan. But he soon revealed that he wasn't a lily-livered Deep Space Nine fan, but an original series guy from when the red shirts died and Kirk would throw his rap to anything with a pulse. I got a chance to talk with Mr. Austin while he was on tour with his new book, The Stone Cold Truth. Like many wrestlers recently, he has put out an autobiography, but unlike many, he still has a career. Even though the WWE said he took a year off after Mick Foley ran him over with a car, it was actually for neck surgery. Now he's back and ready to take on the world.
UGO: How you doing?
Steve Austin: I'm making it OK.
UGO: What made you decide to write the book?
SA: They asked me to write a book about five years ago about my career with the WWE. But at the time, I didn't figure it was time to write a book and I'm pretty private by nature, so I told them no. Then, when I came back from my leave of absence from the company, Jim Ross approached me and asked me to write the book. It seemed like the time was right. I had a story to tell with information to cover. I had some stuff I wanted people to be clear on, and so I said, "Hey, I'll write this thing."
UGO: Was it tough writing about Debra?
SA: It wasn't tough writing about anything. If anything, it was kind of therapeutic for me. I got some things off my chest, and it was kind of like going to a shrink. I just did it in the form of book and had a good time telling it. I also wanted to thank the fans with the book for all the support they've given me over the years.
