    Breaking The Walls Down

Hello and welcome back to another edition of Breaking The Walls Down. We’ve just witnessed another WWE PPV and quite possibly the best one in quite some time. So, at the expense of Bits and Pieces, let’s go right into looking at the PPV. Please keep in mind, I’m not going to review all the matches, simply the ones that were the main-events.

    2003 WWE Survivor Series

Now, without reading any news articles on LoP about the matter (if any exist, I do not know), I found it interesting that the PPV was opened with the Angle vs. Lesnar Survivor Series match. I am guessing it was for the benefit of Angle who had a limited (yet very critical) part in the match. And, by benefit, I mean that Angle would be able to leave right after the PPV from Dallas, TX and make the long flight to Pittsburgh, PA where he would no doubt have to rest before his operation. With that being said, I think this match was a good Survivor Series style match. On a side note, why is it I cringe every time I see Nathan Jones about to do a power move on another wrestler? Hmmmmm.

With the usual group that I watch a PPV with (thanks again to Tim who always springs for the PPVs), the point was brought up by a friend of mine, Ryan, that maybe Chris Benoit was going to get the next shot at Lesnar. Now, I liked the fact that Lesnar tapped-out to Benoit, but will the WWE actually give us what we want? Will they give us a Benoit vs. Lesnar feud (which, I’m sure, will not have much mic work)? More importantly, will they really give us what we want and give the WWE World Heavyweight Title to Benoit? In all seriousness, I doubt it, but I would gladly eat my words on that. I don’t think that McMahon believes in Benoit. True, another good friend of mine, Jeff, pointed out that Benoit was getting a major push before he lost the title (and, technically, he did beat The Rock, but it was reversed, lousy spur-of-the-minute reversals). But, what stands to reason is that the Internet fans don’t necessarily reflect the feelings of wrestling fans in general. It is my fear that Vince McMahon is aware of what the Internet fans want, but he feels that wrestling fans as a whole want a more “believable” champion. Take this into account, Benoit used to be a cruiserweight champion. No matter what, that memory sticks in McMahon’s head. I want to see Benoit was the new heavyweight champion, but McMahon has to approve it.

Real quick, why was Hardcore Holly eliminated before we ever saw him in the ring? Is he still rehabbing? If so, why would they put him on the card to begin with?

Thankfully Goldberg vs. Triple H ended with Goldberg retaining the world title. Will Triple H now jump to Smackdown to be with his new wife, Stephanie? Will Stephanie even return to TV in the near future? Those are questions that won’t be immediately answered. However, keep in mind that Triple H has supposedly been grooming Randy Orton to wrestle Triple H in a series of matches. We’ll see how that unfolds.

The Undertaker vs. Vince McMahon was interesting to watch. Man, Vince had better watch how bad he blades himself, the amount of blood he lost in that match seemed serious. Everywhere Vince went, there was literally a puddle or two of blood. These weren’t small puddles, either. Now, the swerve in this match was that when The Undertaker went to open the door to the mega-sweet backhoe that was above the grave, pyro went off and guess who came out of the backhoe? Kane! That’s right folks, in the never-ending saga that is The Undertaker and Kane, Kane cost The Undertaker his match with Vince McMahon. I’m guessing this will lead The Undertaker to return with his old gimmick to take on Kane. I guess I’m O.K. with this, considering they haven’t faced off too recently, but come on. My only hope is that they don’t start throwing lighting bolts and fireballs at each other again.

For one of RAW’s main events it was Austin’s team vs. Bischoff’s team in a Survivor Series style match. I liked the match and I thought it flowed pretty good. When it came down to Michaels, I thought for sure we were going to get screwed and see HBK turn heel and intentionally screw Austin over. That wasn’t the case, however, and HBK was pinned after putting on one heck of a match. Who ever says Michaels doesn’t have it anymore must be blind. This man has it all and puts on more interesting matches than any I’ve seen from the supposed upper-echelon of WWE wrestlers. But, once Michaels was pinned, I then thought that Austin was going to stun HBK, but the WWE surprised me yet again and that didn’t happen. The end result was that Austin’s team lost, which I really didn’t think was going to happen.

Now that Austin is “fired” we’re going to have a special on him on Wednesday night on UPN? Does any one see that this is a story line? Nice way to try and cover it up WWE. I thought they were really going to try and make it seem like Austin’s been fired, but I suppose not. If you haven’t noticed between Survivor Series and last night’s RAW, Bischoff (although not “directly” in the case of Austin) has fired two of the three people he fired before Austin became Co-GM of RAW. If Bischoff goes the route of firing Ross again (that would be, what, Ross’ fifth or sixth firing?), my theory that the WWE writers are simply rehashing old story lines will be true. Watch when Stephanie comes back to Smackdown. If she’s a heel and sides with her father again, nothing will have made sense.

In the end, I believe that Survivor Series was a good event. The matches were good all the way around and it was very watch able. I thought the RAW Survivor Series tag match was a better main event than Triple H vs. Goldberg, but that’s only my opinion (which is what this column is about, opinions). Moreover, even though I didn’t mention the Shane McMahon vs. Kane match, I did like it (except for what seemed like a quick finish, but I guess I was thinking something else would happen for some reason – to me it looked like Shane was going to kick the door back open on Kane, but that didn’t happen). Also, if you saw the match, you witnessed one of the sickest thuds I’ve heard. What I’m referring to is when Shane McMahon slammed the door on Kane’s head. Man, that was sick.

If any of you out there is looking for or knows anyone who is looking for a technical writer/trainer, please let me know. I would appreciate it, thank you.

That will do it for this week. I hope you all have a safe week and, as always, join me as I try to “educate people on the realness of the fakeness of professional wrestling”.

    Later,
    Chris Dailey
