Stanman's Wrestling AfterThoughts - Random Ramblings

How about them Cubbies!
Welcome to another edition of Stanman's Wrestling AfterThoughts. Wow, two columns within two weeks of each other. Miracle? Maybe.
Before we start, I just want to say that I am loving the MLB playoff races. In particular, the NL Central race. As I type this, my Cubs are tied in first place with the Houston Astros, a team that keeps hanging around and making life difficult for my beloved team. If the standings are all tied up come the end of the season, a tie-breaking game will be played at Wrigley Field on Monday, September 29th.
How sweet would it be if the Cubs went to the World Series and win it? Baseball as we know it, would change forever. I know Chicago will be turned inside out whenever that day comes. Man, I can't wait. Hopefully, the day comes sooner than later.
Speaking of Chicago, on September 29th, the Bears open up the new Soldier Field against the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football. From what I have seen the stadium looks fantastic. And to open it with the NFL's OLDEST rivalry just tops it off as a historic day.
AND…RAW is taking place in the Allstate Arena on the same night. Wow, two events taking place at the same time calls for two TV sets. And if the Cubs and Astros tie, I might need three!
On with the column..
The Sharpshooting Gallery: Random Ramblings
"You need me more than I need you." HAHAHAHA. What a joke. Anyone else get the feeling that statement by Triple H was a semi-shoot? What an egotistical jerk. Anyway, RAW can now breathe some fresh air with him out of the scene for the next couple of months. I just hope the ratings and attendance can reflect this new era so that we don't have to see Trips taking over RAW again. Although, that is close to inevitable seeing that he is getting married to the boss's daughter real soon. Come on RAW! Get better now!
Eric Bischoff cracks me up. His mannerisms are classic. Whenever he walks down the ramp, he acknowledges some of the fans and the broadcast team of Coach and Al Snow with a double point of his fingers and a smirk. He used to do that with the NWO back in WCW. Now he brought it back because has someone to point to (heel broadcasters) and it's damn funny. And his comment about him making Goldberg what he is today is damn true. No matter what anyone says, it's true.
I never thought I would say this but somebody needs to get Lita some pants, stat! Apparently she has not heard of a tanning bed. Shorts do not work on this diva.
The Kane and Shane McMahon angle is built up pretty well. Kane has nothing to gain from this feud as Shane is not an actual wrestler. I suggest pushing Kane to face Goldberg for the world heavyweight championship sometime down the road. Now that is something I would pay to see. No need to see Shane jumping off the Titan-Tron for the 12423543625th time.
Switching over to Smackdown, the Brock Lesnar/Kurt Angle saga is failing miserably. The Iron Man match did NOTHING for the ratings last week after all the hype it was given. I found the match to be decent but I was not surprised to see Lesnar win the title, nor did I care. That in itself is sad. There is no story for their matches which makes it *that* less significant. And it is not just this feud. Most of Smackdown has been lackluster lately.
One of the few bright spots is the Tajiri and Rey Mysterio feud. I loved the match they had this past Smackdown with the Japanese buzzsaw winning the cruiserweight gold. The match had some good 'face in peril' psychology and a superb ending with Tajiri using a second red mist spray to win it. I never expected that, especially with a different color! Quality match here and a title change to boot. I look forward to where this angle is going.
Viva La Rasa! Do you hear the crowd reactions whenever Los Guerreros' music hit? It's always deafening! Eddy Guerrero is insanely over that it's not even funny. What is funny is that the WWE does not realize it. The guy is a main-eventer lost in a mid-card world. Simply put.
Sable is looking fantastic lately. I don't know what it is, but Vince is one lucky man. I have a feeling something is going on between these two in real life or they are REALLY doing a good acting job on TV. Stephanie, on the other hand, looks awkward. She looks bloated and seems to be leaning forward due to the implants being heavy. Meh, whatever floats Triple H's boat, I guess.
Decent week of television for the WWE. Smackdown is lagging behind just a bit with good wrestling but no good story behind each feud. With folks like the Undertaker taking up the main event slot, it's no wonder why the shows have been lacking. And it is extra sad to see the Cenas, Benoits and Guerreros of the WWE getting shafted.
RAW is getting off to a good start after the Unforgiven PPV with Goldberg as champ and no Triple H to stink things up. Next week's RAW should be fun since it is in my hometown of Chicago. The crowds here are loyal to WWE and are always hot for the shows so it should be interesting to see how this show turns out.
Mission: Accomplished
As you may have noticed, there was no Gathering Intelligence section this week. The current question has to do with Survivor Series and I felt that it was too early to discuss SS with No Mercy coming up. So hold your horses until my next column. But if you have not sent me a reply for the current question, please do so. The current question is:
What would you like to see as the MAIN EVENT of Survivor Series?
Outstanding replies may be posted in the next column. Please no unrealistic scenarios as main event matches (i.e. Sting vs. Goldberg) or anything of the sort. And as usual, full credit will be given to the reader if I use his/her response. So send your thoughts!
Thanks a million for reading and GO CUBS!
