WWE Confidential Recap (8.30.03)
Submitted by Peter Kostka on Saturday, August 30, 2003 at 11:55 PM EST

Ah, the NFL season is upon us. Anyone else going to get up at about 9:30 next Sunday and plop himself in front of the TV for about 12 hours? And we should get those NFL Crossfaces done.....sometime, I guess. Ah well, let’s get on with the recap.

Note: This episode originally aired on November 16, 2002

This week: The Kurt Angle Classic, The debut of Big Poppa Pump, and A Day in the Life of a Dudley

Mean WHOO Gene welcomes us to the show and plugs Survivor Series and the first Elimination Chamber match. He then hypes up Scott Steiner and that takes us to our first segment.

Holla, If Ya Still Care About Me

He thinks he’s the best because he wants to be. People who don’t know him have to be living under a rock. He’s not a loose cannon because he knows what he’s doing. Since the death of WCW, he’s been getting bigger and stronger. He doesn’t really know which brand to sign with. He has no problem with Eric since he let Scott develop into who he is. There are challenges he’s never faced and he wants to be the World champion. A message: Those who know him know what is coming and those who don’t, well “be afraid because the shit is on.”

Heh, remember when Scott Steiner actually meant something? Now he can’t even get heat with Stacy by his side. 0/1

Anthology Cuts: Angle talks about his theme. Hey, it’s that hard rock variation. It’s not bad, actually. I think he should use it.

Tonight’s Confidential is Brought to You By: The usual crap.

    Kurt Angle Klassic

This is a tournament in New Orleans between amateur wrestlers from the US and ones from around the world. Kurt wants to be involved in amateur wrestling as much as he can and this is a way to do it. There are people from all over the world (Russia, Japan). Some of the competitors put over the sport, saying it is one of the more pure sports out there. If you lose, it’s your own fault. At first, Angle didn’t want to “sell out” by signing with the WWF. After he did, some amateur wrestlers thought it was a disgrace to the sport, but Kurt says he was just “taking a different career path.” In amateur wrestling, fans are more amazed with what they DON’T see (quick moves), rather than WWE fans, who are amazed by big moves. Kurt likes the fact that more amateur wrestlers are crossing over into pro, but knows that not all amateur wrestlers are cut out for the pros, since they are too physical in the squared circle. We see some of the guys do their thing, including Rulon Gardner, and Kurt gives us his thoughts on them. These guys are pretty good. Kurt puts Gardner over big. Kurt would like more amateur wrestlers in WWE since not many Superstars can go with him in the ring like someone like Benoit or Guerrero can. He thinks it would definitely bring a different style to the table.

I agree there. At the very least, it would be something different than the tired old “WWE Style” that’s been prevalent for the past 5 years. 1/2

On The Road with Buh Buh Ray Dudley

This is a video diary of three days in the life of Buh Buh Ray Dudley. Buh Buh and Spike leave a show at Penn State about 10:15PM Friday night and made the 200 mile trek to Philly, arriving at a Mariott around 1:30AM Saturday. He wakes up at about 11AM and talks with his fiancée over the phone. Traveling and being away from home about 200+ days/year does affect relationships, but she is cool about it. He had told her that if she decides to break up with him, it should not be because of his job. He says it’s the “most exciting, boring job in the world.” Each guy does the same routine. He does some cardio and eats about 2:30. Around 6, he heads to the First Union Center for a house show and meets some fans while driving. They take pictures and HIGH FIVE him while they drive alongside. Wow, that ain’t nuts. He had a match with Booker T and did a successful Bubba-roonie afterwards. At 10:45, he goes back to the hotel, which is a rarity since it is so close to the arena. The next morning, he leaves with Tommy Dreamer around 9:30AM for the trek to Hershey for another show. They stop at a rest stop to eat and Tommy amazes everyone by throwing down $3 in a crane game and winning 5 stuffed animals. He calls himself “The master of the crane game.” At 11:30AM, they arrive at the arena and Buh Buh has a match with Y2J. The next stop is RAW in Cincinatti, but his fight is delayed, so he doesn’t get to the hotel in Cincy until midnight. Buh Buh bids us good night for now.

If I was Buh Buh, my ass would be VERY sore after sitting in a car or a plane for about 75% of the time over 3 days. How the HELL did Dreamer do that anyway? I’ll bet it was $6, but he didn’t want to be embarrassed. Besides, stuffed animals are so passé, where was the lobster harmonica and Emmy in that thing? 2/3

WWE Rewind: Undertaker defeats Yokozuna in a Casket match at SurSer in 1995.

Gene hypes Survivor Series some more and that brings us to our next segment.

The Greatest Moments of the Survivor Series

Bruce Pritchard says SurSer was originally created as a way to get Hogan and Andre in the ring together again. Huh, well, that's interesting.

    Debuts

1990 – Undertaker debuts as the mystery partner in Ted Dibiase’s team.
1996 – Rocky debuts at MSG. He was going to be a star as soon as he walked through the curtain, says WWE Revisionist History.
    1999 – Kurt Angle’s debut.

    Bitter Endings

    1997 – Take a wild guess.

    Vehicular Disasters

1999 – Stone Cold gets run over (oh, PLEASE)
2000 – Austin almost murders HHH by picking his car up (with him in it) with a forklift and dropping it on its roof.

That’s it? Way to ignore a whole bunch of stuff there, guys (Taker beating Hogan, WCW’s final stand, etc). 2/4

    -Commercials-

Wrestlemania Recall: Liberace does some high kicks with the Rockettes at WM I.

    On the Road Again

Buh Buh says loves what he does while driving into Cincinatti for another RAW, arriving about noon. Around 4:40, he talks with Spike about their RAW segment tonight just to make sure they’re on the same page. When the pyro hits at 9, he’s the only guy not covering his ears. He does his thing and gets compliments from the agents afterwards. Buh Buh leaves at 11:55, reiterating his love of his job.

Couldn’t they have just added this onto the other segment? 2/5

    - Commercials – That new Spade movie looks like it sucks, by the way.

Anthology Cuts: Bischoff talks about “I’m Back”. He gets excited when his music hits, because he’s about to appear in front of thousands of people.

The Building of the Elimination Chamber

Pretty much an extended hype job of the Chamber that they aired about 10 billion times in November 2002. No give, 36 foot diameter, no escape, 200 tons, etc. 2/6

Next Week: All new show featuring Superstar Billy Graham. He inspired Hogan and Ventura, you know.

    See you next week, folks!
