MLW SUMMER APOCALYPSE RESULTS!
(ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA) - - MLW made its debut tonight in front of a hot crowd of 968 fans at the St. Petersburg. Below is a brief rundown of the results of the taping:
Results from SUMMER APOCALYPSE:
Bounty Match: Jerry "The King" Lawler pinned Terry Funk in a violent and bloody match. In another classic outing pitting these life-long enemies, Funk and Lawler traded fists, chairs, and more all over the arena before Lawler downed Funk in a surprise victory for the Extreme Horsemen bounty hunter. Afterwards, CW Anderson & Simon Diamond (no Steve Corino due to a recent suspension that will end the day before War Games next month) entered the ring and explained that Jerry Lawler would not be receiving his bounty hunter fee as he had only pinned Funk and not taken him out for good. Lawler and the Horsemen bickered for a bit before attacking one another leading to an all out brawl which saw Lawler get viciously attacked by Anderson & Diamond leading Lawler to regroup outside the ring. At this point, Funk and Lawler nearly began to fight with one another again before agreeing to get in the ring and take on Anderson & Diamond. The two sides battled ferociously for a good minute before another unexpected turn of events occurred when the mysterious masked man (who many speculated was Steve Corino) appeared for the second time tonight and stormed the ring to give the Extreme Horsemen the advantage. Were the Extreme Horsemen at full strength? Did Corino find a loophole in his suspension by wearing the mask and attacking his rival Terry Funk? We nearly found out as Funk fought back and was about to rip off the mask of the mysterious Horsemen associate when a SECOND masked man ran into the ring wearing an identical mask and attacked Funk. The Horsemen and their mysterious associate who many still believe was Corino threw another curveball at the legends with this mysterious second masked man prompting the question: If Corino is possibly one of the culprits under the mask? Who is the other?!! The Horsemen began to take it to Funk & Lawler before The Sandman and Steve Williams stormed the ring and evened things up for a wild four on four brawl that had the 968 fans in St. Petersburg on their feet and shouting while fists and even a roll of barbed wire was tossed around. In the end of this wild brawl, the Extreme Horsemen narrowly escaped before their masked associates could be identified. Sandman then asked Funk and Lawler to put their differences aside and drink a beer together. After a few fingers and tough words being exchanged, Lawler got on the mic and trashed Funk. Funk reciprocated but said that if Lawler could fight with the spirit he has had all these years against Funk, then he would like to join up with him and the Sandman & Steve Williams and take on the Horsemen and the mysterious sidekick (or sidekicks depending if Corino was the one under the mask) next month at War Games in Ft. Lauderdale. Lawler agreed and the four celebrated with beer to end the first annual Summer Apocalypse.
Spike Match: Sabu pinned "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels (with The Sinister Minister) after Sabu spiked Daniels above the eye after Bill Alfonso threw water on Mikey Whipwreck and extinguished his fireball.
Global Tag-Team Crown Match: Global Tag-Team Crown Champions The Extreme Horsemen (CW Anderson & Simon Diamond) defeated The Sandman & "Dr. Death" Steve Williams when a masked man who many believed to have been Steve Corino ran in the ring and assisted the Horsemen with the victory pinfall via a CW steel chair spinebuster on the Sandman.
Young Lions Challenge2: "Notorious 187" Homicide pinned Jerry Lynn (with The Sinister Minister) with a modified roll-up for the victory, therefore gaining full-time status in MLW. After the match, Lynn snapped due to his failure to build a winning streak and attacked Homicide and left him stunned with a cradle piledriver. Afterwards, Lynn severely damaged the neck of Homicide when he crossed the line and executed a top rope elbow drop using the bell gong. MLW officials and paramedics swarmed the ring to break up the violent attack and help assist Homicide with some medical attention. Homicide was carried to the back by officials and the doctor and later sent to the hospital.
Intergender Match: "Show Stealer" Michael Shane & Francine defeated "Black Magic" Norman Smiley & GI Ho after Smiley was handcuffed by Shane and Francine leading to a top rope dive onto GI Ho that put her through a table for the pinfall victory.
Straight Edge Rules Match: CM Punk pinned Raven after Nosawa interfered and straight edge referee Chasyn Rance did a controversial three count giving Punk the victory. Prior the start of the match, Punk had MLW announcer Stephen DeAngelis read off the stipulations for the straight edge match which included: the disqualification rule in effect, no weapons were to be used, no obscenities by the fans, no beer sold or consumed during the match, and a straight edge referee to enforce the above rules and ensure the match stayed pure to the straight edge challenge.
Samoan Island Tribe defeated Monsta Mack & B-Boy (substituting for Mafia) in a falls count anywhere match after Ekmo hit a top rope splash onto a table with B-Boy at ringside for the pinfall.
Mikey Whipwreck (with The Sinister Minister) pinned Tony Mamaluke with the Whippersnapper.
Jimmy Yang pinned Sonjay Dutt after hitting Dutt with Yang Time. Sonjay Dutt received a standing ovation following the match and a new hybrid wrestling star was born.
MANA pinned Rich Criado.
Los Maximos defeated Nosawa & B-Boy with the Spanish Fly.
