WWE RAW - 8/18/03
Held in Grand Rapids, Michigan
Announcing: Jim Ross & Jerry Lawler
Raw started right off with Chris Jericho's Highlight Reel. Jericho spoke about his Hair vs. Hair match with Kevin Nash later on and then had a few words about the Elimination Chamber match set for SummerSlam. Jericho said he planned on walking out as the new World Champion. Jericho then introduced the man who won the first ever Elimination Chamber match, Shawn Michaels. HBK made his way out and Jericho said since he needed to focus on his match later, he handed the show over to his good friends, Evolution. Triple H led the way, flanked by Randy Orton and Ric Flair as usual. H talked about the Chamber being the most brutal match he's ever been involved in and how he spent 48 hours in the hospital because of it. However, the most valuable thing he lost in that match was the World Title and it was Michaels who took it away. Michaels replied by punking out Flair and Orton and then going after Triple H. Eventually, Evolution got the upper hand on Michaels until Kevin Nash (complete with bleached blonde hair) jumped in the ring to help out Michaels. Unfortunately (or fortunately, however you wanna look at it) Nash ended up getting his ass handed to him until Goldberg hit the ring and took out Orton and Flair while H was wailing away on Nash. Goldberg waited in the corner for H to get to his feet and when he did, Goldberg went for the spear but H dodged it and Goldberg took out Nash instead. H bailed out of the ring and headed up the ramp with the rest of Evolution as Goldberg did his best to look somewhat confused.
Backstage, Test told Stacy, once he won her back, he was going to treat her like the little slut she was. Or is. Damn this past-tense style of writing.
After the break, Trish Stratus hit the ring and we saw a pre-recorded spiel from her on Gail Kim and Molly Holly. Trish said she'd deal with Kim later because she was focusing on winning the Women's Title from Molly tonight.
Molly Holly defeated Trish Stratus via DQ to retain the Women's Title. Not a very smooth-flowing match as it looked like they were having trouble with some spots that aren't normally performed in women's matches. Molly had Trish in the Tombstone position but ended up dropping her with a sloppy shoulder-breaker because she couldn't hold her there very long. Usual stuff from Trish, kicks, that hurricanrana thing she does off the bottom rope, etc. Gail Kim ran down to the ring but was punked out by Trish who then nailed Molly off the top rope and had a pin but Kim jumped in and broke that up. For some reason, Kim went after Molly, causing the DQ and the two brawled on the outside until referee's came down to break it up.
Backstage, Evolution were talking about what just went down when Steve Austin walked in and said they had given him a hell of an idea. And that idea was Randy Orton vs. Goldberg for tonight's main event. Orton sarcastically said he hoped no one would get hurt and Austin assumed Evolution would get involved so he appointed himself the special ringside enforcer.
After the break, Shane McMahon walked out and announced that there would be no match between him and Eric Bischoff at SummerSlam because he planned on beating the crap out of Bischoff tonight. Shane then said he had something special for Kane as well and headed behind the curtain and came back out with a can of gasoline. Shane said Kane wasn't the only one who liked to play with fire.
Backstage, Lance Storm was about to give up on trying to be, um, un-boring, but Goldust told him he needed to be unpredictable, (with Tourette's kicking while he was at the "dic" part, ha...ha). Goldust shoved Storm into the women's locker room and told him to blurt out the first thing he could think of.
We then saw a shot of Linda McMahon sitting in her home office in Greenwich, CT. JR told us he'd have a chat with her later.
Test defeated Scott Steiner to win Stacy Keibler's services. Steiner dominated the match until Test went for a big boot but Steiner ducked it and Test came down on it hard and apparently hurt his knee. Test tried to bring himself to his feet but kept falling down as the ref called for the trainer. Test seemed disappointed and upset as the trainer looked over his knee. With the aide of a few other referee's, they got Test on his feet and started to get him out of the ring until Test got close enough to maul Steiner with a big boot. Test had faked it all along and then scored the easy pin and dragged a reluctant Stacy up the ramp with him.
After the break, La Resistance walked out and had a moment of silence for the Dudley Boyz as we saw the image of both Dudleyz down and out with the American flag draped over them from last weeks show. As Grenier babbled on, Dupree noticed a military type in the crowd. Dupree and Grenier went over to him and started some shit until the Dudley Boyz ran in and chased away La Resistance. A "USA" chant fired up as Bubba Ray and D-Von brought the serviceman into the ring to thank him for what he and his comrades have done for our country. The serviceman waved the American flag around as the "USA" chant was heard again but once the Dudleyz turned their back, the serviceman (I hate to keep repeating that, sounds lame) took the flagpole and cracked both Dudelyz with it as La Resistance came back in the ring and once again left the Dudleyz down in the middle of the ring with the American flag over them. The "serviceman" then took the French flag and waved it proudly with La Resistance alongside him.
Chris Jericho defeated Kevin Nash in a Hair vs. Hair match. Nash controlled early on, hitting his usual moves. Eventually, Jericho rebounded and went on the offensive for a bit until he went for a spear but Nash sidestepped it and Jericho's shoulder said hello to Mr. Ringpost. Nash soon hit the Jackknife powerbomb but Jericho got his foot on the ropes. Nash seemed set to hit another one as Jericho "accidentally" poked the ref in the eye and then lowblowed Nash. Jericho then took a pair of brass knucks from his tights and clocked Nash for the win. Afterwards, Jericho grabbed some scissors and went to work, chopping up Nash's hair. As Nash came around, Jericho bailed and taunted Nash from the ramp with a lock of his own hair.
Somewhere in suburbia (and earlier today) a little girl's cat was stuck in a tree when Rosey, everyone's favorite S.H.I.T. came to the rescue. With a few "woosh" sound effects, Rosey had rescued Mr. Snugglepants, or whatever she was calling him. The little girl asked how she could ever repay Rosey when The Hurricane jumped in and explained why superhero's do what they do. In the background, Mr. Snugglepants attacked Rosey who slammed the cat against a tree and then chucked him over a fence in a pretty comedic moment. Rosey then urged Hurricane to speed up his speech and said they had to go. They left and the little girl was left looking for her cat. I laughed my ass off over that.
Theodore Long hit the ring alongside Rodeny Mack. Long said he had returned from his cruise and likened Mack to the blackout last week, saying there'd be a Mackout tonight.
Rosey (with The Hurricane) defeated Rodney Mack (with Theodore Long). Mack dominated early on as Long was kept at bay by Hurricane. Rosey bounced back to hit a big Samoan drop and then his spinning sidewalk slam finisher for the win.
It was then time for the "via satellite" interview with Linda McMahon. JR asked her how she was doing after being Tombstone'd nearly a month ago. Linda explained that she had two herniated discs in her back but the doctors were hopeful she wouldn't need surgery. As the interview progressed, Linda's doorbell was being rung and as she went up to answer it, Eric Bischoff walked in. Bischoff had a shrude comment for Linda as the show went to break. When it came back, we were still in Linda's office as Bischoff snooped around. Linda told him to leave but Bischoff said he was here for "her pleasure." Linda went for the phone but Bischoff grabbed her and held her with her arms behind her back. Bischoff had a few words on Shane and said he was going to beat him to a bloody pulp. Eric then forced a kiss on her and we were left with the two staring at one another. This segment should be part of World Wrestling Entertainment for Insomniacs, cause that shit could've put anyone to sleep.
Back in the arena, Shane was leaving the building to go throwdown with Bischoff and save his mom in Greenwich.
Christian vs. Rob Van Dam went to a no contest. Good match, probably the best one of the night. Van Dam was in control late in the match after hitting a Van Daminator after Christian brought two chairs into the ring and tried a one man conchairto. Van Dam hit the Fivestar Frog Splash when Kane walked out, by himself, so much for the house arrest stuff. Kane got on the apron but was clocked by RVD and knocked to the floor. RVD then went for a suicide dive between the ropes but ended up throwing himself right into a steel chair held up by Kane. RVD looked like he was out as Kane threw him over his shoulder and marched up the ramp with him.
In the locker room, Test forced Stacy to do a lapdance while Steven Richards and Rico looked on.
Triple H and Ric Flair joined in on commentary as Steve Austin had just come out for the main event.
Goldberg defeated Randy Orton with Steve Austin as the special ringside enforcer. A little game of cat and mouse went on to start the match but eventually the two got in the ring and Goldberg began dominating. Eventually though, Orton did hit a few offensive moves but then Flair marched to the ring shortly after the ref was steamrolled by Goldberg on accident. Austin went after Flair and amidst all the brawling, Goldberg flattened Orton with the spear and Austin hit Flair with the Stunner. Goldberg then hit the Jackhammer and picked up the win with Austin making the three count.
After the match, Triple H stood up on the stage as he traded stares with Goldberg until Nash ran back in (complete with a new haircut) and hit Goldberg with the Jackknife powerbomb. H then traded glares with Nash and went to pose with his title but Michaels came from behind the curtain and levelled H with a superkick. Michaels grabbed the title as Jericho came out and clocked Michaels in the back with a chair. Jericho then grabbed the title and mocked Nash as the show went off the air.
