  DENVER -- July 27, 2003 -- Kurt Angle's nose was swollen as he walked backstage, a mixture of blood and perspiration coloring his scalp, a fresh cut under his eye. After receiving handshakes and hugs from his fellow gladiators, Angle searched the dressing room area until he spotted his wife, Karen, and 8-month-old daughter, Kyra.

• Gowen makes PPV debut
  DENVER -- July 27, 2003 -- Less than a year ago, Zach Gowen was a teenager in Livonia, Mich., reading about WWE pay-per-view intrigue on the Internet. At Vengeance, he wrestled the head of the company, Vince McMahon, in a match that was one of the primary drawing points of the show.
