    WWE VENGEANCE - 7/27/03

    Location: Denver, Colorado
    Announcing: Micheal Cole & Tazz

    Quick recap, sorry.

The first ever SmackDown! presented pay per view got underway with the United States Title match.

Eddie Guerrero defeated Chris Benoit in 21:54 to win the United States Title. Excellent match as expected from these two. Eddie tried the "lie, cheat and steal" tactics late in the match when he hit the ref with the title belt, planted the belt on Benoit and then laid down acting as if he was hit as well. The ref didn't wake up in time to see it, however. Rhyno hit the ring and hit a gore on Benoit, intentionally. Eddie nailed a Frog Splash after that and walked, well, rolled out of Vengeance as the new US champ.

Jamie Noble defeated Billy Gunn (with Torrie Wilson) in 4:59. Noble came out with a case of sex accessories, ready to win a night in bed with Torrie. Nidia came out during the match and put Gunn's foot on the ropes while Noble had a cover. Nidia and Torrie both slapped Noble when he got between them. Back in the ring, Torrie ended up on the apron and Gunn almost knocked her off. This distraction allowed Noble to steal the win.

Bradshaw won the Barroom Brawl around 5:00. The winner was declared as the last man still drinking. The participants were Bradshaw, Ron Simmons, Brother Love, Kanyon, Matt Hardy, Shannon Moore, John & Matt (Tough Enough 3 Winners), Doink the Clown, Los Conquistadores, Brooklyn Brawler, Sean O'Haire, Funaki, and uh, the Easter Bunny. It was actually a pretty entertaining segment. Everyone drank and hit each other with various objects, stools, bottles, whatever. In the end, Bradshaw cracked a bottle over Brother Love's head for the win.

Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin defeated Rey Mysterio & Billy Kidman in 15:01 to retain the WWE Tag Team Titles. Excellent match which included my favorite spot of the night, Billy Kidman doing a Shooting Star Press off of the center of the top rope and onto Haas and Benjamin on the floor. In the end though, Haas and Benjamin pulled out the win after a wicked Doomsday Device-like move. Haas had Rey in a powerbomb position and Benjamin came off the top, clotheslined him and Haas followed through with the powerbomb for the win.

Sable defeated Stephanie McMahon in 6:32. Basic catfight, nothing special. A-Train ran in and clotheslined Stephanie and Sable covered for the win.

The Undertaker defeated John Cena in 16:06. Undertaker dominated early on and hit a chokeslam but pulled Cena back up before the three count. Cena made a comeback but couldn't put the match away so he nailed Taker with his chain but that didn't work either. Cena had Taker in the corner for the ten count punch but stopped to showboat and Taker caught him with the Last Ride for the win.

Vince McMahon defeated Zack Gowen in 14:22. Gowen hit an Asai moonsault on the outside and also hit one in the ring later on. McMahon worked over Gowen's leg for a good part of the match but couldn't seem to finish it so he brought a chair into the ring. Gowen kicked the chair in the ring and busted Vince open big time. Blood was just pouring out of his head. Gowen went up top for another moonsault but missed it and Vince made the cover for the win.

Kurt Angle defeated Brock Lesnar & Big Show in 17:38 to win the WWE Championship. Early in the match, Angle and Lesnar both attacked Show but he came back with a nice double suplex. Later, Angle put Show through the Spanish announce table with an Angle Slam which led to Lesnar and Angle wrestling against each other for a few minutes. After a nearfall, Show got himself back into the mix but fell victim to an Angle Slam. Kurt then turned around and hit Lesnar with one as well and covered to win the title.
