THE WRESTLING MENU #54
Welcome one and all to the 54th edition of The Wrestling Menu, the column that is sure to satisfy your taste buds when it comes to discussing all things wrestling.
APPETIZERS - Not Much
Sorry to cheat a little here guys, but I have been really pressed for time over the past week or so & because of this I'm basically just going to crap on a little for my Appetizers today. Between spending a weekend in New Zealand (not getting very much sleep at all), getting through some important personal issues & replying to the amazing amount of e-mails I have received lately, I just couldn't put together a proper third topic today.
Regarding the e-mails I received this past week, I only hoped to top the 100 (because I got 90 odd the week before). So to say that I was a little surprised to get just over 100 replies within the first 24 hours of posting my column (#53), is a huge under-statement. I ended up with something like 130 votes for the greatest match of all time. WOW & THANKS is all I can say!!!
Just a quick correction to something in my column last week. I incorrectly called the team of Randy Savage & Hulk Hogan 'The SuperPowers'. I meant 'The MegaPowers'. The SuperPowers name belonged to Dusty Rhodes & Nikita Koloff.
The results of the 'Greatest Match' poll are in the 'Dessert' section of my column today. But first, my predictions for the 1st ever SmackDown exclusive pay-per-view; Vengeance.
MAIN - Vengeance Predictions
Before I start, I should remind everybody that us Australians have not been able to watch SmackDown for the past 7 months. The show is returning to our television screens the week after next, but these predictions are more from my gut feeling & reading the results on this website, than anything else. I'll give it a go anyway. Forgive me if I miss a match or two that has just been announced.
STEPHANIE McMAHON vs SABLE: This is probably the definition of a storyline match. I'm not too sure what this match is actually going to achieve, to be honest. Presuming that someone like Torrie Wilson doesn't interfere, I can't see how Steph could possibly pick up the win. Winner: Sable
VINCE McMAHON vs ZACH GOWEN: This is probably the definition of a storyline match. Wow, deja-vu!!! When you think about it, Zach has pretty much replaced Hulk Hogan in this feud. That's pretty big shoes for this kid to fill (no shoe cracks please). I think that Vince can give better facial expressions in the coming weeks if he loses this bout. Winner: Zach Gowen
APA BAR-ROOM BRAWL: Ummm, is this a match? This has comedic disaster written all over it. Winner: Rhyno
THE UNDERTAKER vs JOHN CENA: Interesting match here. Despite not getting a huge push following his WWE Championship match a few months ago, Cena has been there or thereabouts. I would have to say that he would come out of this bout looking strong, but that doesn't mean he will come out victorious. Winner: The Undertaker
CHARLIE HAAS & SHELTON BENJAMIN vs REY MYSTERIO & BILLY KIDMAN for the WWE Tag-Team Titles: I really hope this bout delivers. It should, but the lack of experience in the ring might hurt the match if a few things go wrong. It should be an interesting clash of styles, and I will say the same thing about this match as I have with all previous Haas/Benjamin bouts; It will be interesting to see how well they adapt. I think the former Team Angle will remain champs for a while yet. Winners: Haas & Benjamin
EDDIE GUERRERO vs CHRIS BENOIT for the United States Title: Who wants to take the short odds that this will be the match of the night!?!?!? Let's be honest folks; You would get about $1.01 back for your $1.00 on that bet. There's no reason why this bout won't absolutely steal the show & possibly be a match of the year contender. We can only pray that these talented 2 are given 20 minutes worth. It's a tough one to decide the victor as well, because you don't know if the loser of the match will be pushed up or down the card afterwards. But to me, it would make more sense for Uncle Eddie to win. Winner: Eddie Guerrero
BROCK LESNAR vs KURT ANGLE vs THE BIG SHOW for the WWE Championship: Unfortunately, like a lot of fans, I see this match as pretty much a filler. And that's sad seeing as though it will be the main event of the pay-per-view. I just don't see any reason for a title switch here with probably the second biggest pay-per-view (SummerSlam) only 4 weeks away. I'm not saying that it won't be entertaining, as I'm sure the three will put on a decent match. But the anticipation for the match is just not there. Winner: Brock Lesnar
Well, I'm sure there will be 2 more matches added. Matt Hardy, Tajiri, Spanky, Rhyno, Jamie Noble, Billy Gunn, The FBI & The Bashams could all be involved in some way. Or maybe they will all be in the bar-room brawl & that will go for 30 minutes!!! Who knows after the redneck triathlon from last month!?!?!? Let's hope the event is at least decent, to give the WWE some impetus leading up to SummerSlam.

Greatest Match Ever: Poll Results
A few readers were a little unclear as to whether they could vote for a WCW match as the greatest ever match. They definitely could & I apologize for being a little ambiguous last week. Most of the matches voted on were WWE matches anyway. Overall, I received votes for 35 matches. Of those, a dozen of them received only 1 vote. So I will not include those matches below. Therefore, if you do not see the match you voted for, presume that you were the only one that voted for it. As you will see, we had a clear winner for the greatest match ever. The number following the match is the number of votes that match received (& not a percentage).
(1) Ricky Steamboat vs Randy Savage (WM3) = 21
(2) Shawn Michaels vs Bret Hart (WM12) = 11
(3) Owen Hart vs Bret Hart (WM10) = 10
(4) Bret Hart vs Steve Austin (WM13) = 9
(5) Undertaker vs Mankind (KOTR'98) = 8
(6T) DaveyBoy Smith vs Bret Hart (SSlam'92) = 6
(6T) Razor Ramon vs Shawn Michaels (WM10) = 6
(8T) Ultimate Warrior vs Hulk Hogan (WM6) = 5
(8T) The Rock vs Hulk Hogan (WM18) = 5
(10T) Shawn Michaels vs Mankind (Mind Games'96) = 4
(10T) Edge/Christian vs Hardyz vs Dudleyz (WM17) = 4
(12T) Bret Hart vs Curt Hennig (SSlam'91) = 3
(12T) Shawn Michaels vs Triple H (SSlam'02) = 3
(12T) Kurt Angle vs Chris Benoit (RRumble'03) = 3
(15T) Ric Flair vs Sting (1st ClashOTC) = 2
(15T) Rey Mysterio vs Eddie Guerrero (HHavoc'97) = 2
(15T) Bret Hart vs Chris Benoit (Nitro '99) = 2
(15T) Hulk Hogan vs Paul Orndorff (SNME Cage) = 2
(15T) Randy Savage vs Ric Flair (WM8) = 2
(15T) Bret Hart vs Owen Hart (SSlam'94) = 2
(15T) Triple H vs Mick Foley (RRumble 2000) = 2
(15T) Shawn Michaels vs Chris Jericho (WM19) = 2
(15T) Hulk Hogan vs Andre The Giant (WM3) = 2
So there you have it; A very clear cut winner of the greatest match ever vote, polling almost double that of it's nearest rival. I can't argue too much with the choice of the WrestleMania 3 InterContinental match. If there is anything this proves, it's that if you have yet to see this bout between Steamboat & Savage, I recommend you do so as soon as practically possible. It's an under-statement to say that it's well worth the watch!!!
Ok, that just about does it for edition #54 of The Wrestling Menu. No votes to take part in this week. I'm all voted out. Once more, a huge thanks to everyone that has voted via e-mail over the last 2 weeks. The response has been truly overwhelming & flattering. I really do appreciate it. As you all know, I reply to all feedback that I get. My e-mail address is DaveyBoy123@bigpond.com
Next Wednesday in The Wrestling Menu, I will take a look at what happened at Vengeance. I'm actually not 100% sure that I will see this pay-per-view, which would end my consecutive streak that started in early 2001. I will also review Raw the night after. Apart from that, I'm not sure what else I'll have for you all, as next Wednesday seems an eternity away. Look out for the column same Wednesday time & same LOP channel next week. Until then, this is DaveyBoy signing off & asking you to remember that dinner is best served in 3 courses.
MUST SEE! Hot Pix of WWE's Set of Twins, THE BELLA TWINS! WOW!
