WWE RAW - 7/14/03
Location: Conseco Field House - Indianapolis, Indiana Announcing: Jonathan Coachman & Jerry Lawler
Raw opened up with Chris Jericho in the ring, all set to do the Highlight Reel. Jericho claimed that enough was enough and said something needed to be done about Raw being deteriorated to utter chaos in the past few weeks. Jericho then introduced the one man he thought could help turn things around and out came Eric Bischoff sporting a neck brace. Bischoff said his doctors told him to take eight weeks off to let his neck heal but he said he couldn't just sit by and watch Steve Austin run the show into the ground. Bischoff said he had no choice but to order Kane not to appear in the building tonight, although he did say we'd see Kane on the show, but from Stamford, Connecticut in an interview with Jim Ross. Bischoff then shared exclusive footage from last week which depicted Kane attacked Rob Van Dam in the backstage area and throwing him through a wall. Jericho talked for a bit about his match next week with Shawn Michaels and just as he was kissing up to Bischoff some more, Steve Austin walked out. Austin said he was planning on confronting Kane face to face tonight and handling things his own way. Austin said he was going to whoop his ass, but since Kane wasn't there, he thought Bischoff might make a suitable substitute. Austin backed off, however, and said Bishoff wasn't worth it. Austin started to head out of the ring when Jericho said Austin can just keep on walking right out of the building and into his truck and he can drive back home to Texas. Jericho said nobody wanted Austin around and after calling him a son of a bitch, Austin nailed Jericho with a Stunner.
Trish Stratus, Kevin Nash & Scott Steiner (with Stacy Keibler) defeated Test, Steven Richards & Victoria in 5:10. The rules of this match allowed men and women to compete with each other, just so everyone knows. Steiner wanted Test in the ring early on but Test kept backing off whenever a tag was coming his way. Test did, however, throw Trish around a little bit but Nash and Steiner cleaned house which led to Test bailing out and heading up the ramp. Nash then hit the Jackknife powerbomb on Richards for the win.
Backstage, Jericho complained to Bischoff about Austin attacking him and Bischoff replied with something about company policy. Jericho thought it over a minute and said Bischoff had just given him an idea.
After the break, Lance Storm read a prepared statement from the center of the ring. He threatened the fans with legal action if they chanted "boring" before, during or after any of his matches. Before he could continue, Maven interrupted.
Maven defeated Lance Storm in 6:06. As per the new schtick with Storm, the match was a little on the boring side with some decent back and forth action. Late in the match, Storm clocked Maven with a superkick and then locked on the Canadian Maple Leaf but Maven struggled to the ropes. Shortly after, Maven came off the top with a crossbody which Storm rolled through but Maven countered and rolled through again and got the win.
A shot aired of Jim Ross talking with some crew members up in Stamford. Ross mentioned he was nervous about talking with Kane.
At the arena, La Résistance hit the ring and said they were thankful for two things tonight, one, Eric Bischoff was back, and two, it was Bastille Day (French Independence Day). Grenier and Dupree then sang the French National Anthem and the show went to break halfway through the song. When the show returned, they were still singing but they were soon interrupted by the Dudley Boyz. Spike, D-Von and Bubba Ray stormed the ring and beat down the tag champs, even hitting a 3D on Dupree. The Dudz then led the crowd in singing the United States National Anthem.
Triple H, Ric Flair & Randy Orton defeated Bubba Ray, D-Von & Spike Dudley in a six man elimination match in 14:38. Bubba and Flair went at it to start the match but soon after, Spike ended up getting tossed around and eventually eliminated first. After that, Triple H came in and hit D-Von with the French flagpole that was still at ringside. This laid out D-Von long enough to be eliminated which left Bubba by himself. After a commercial break we saw Bubba turning over a Figure Four but the three on one assault was too much and Evolution walked away with the win.
Coachman and Lawler talked about Kane's recent attacks on Tommy Dreamer and Rico.
Backstage, Rob Van Dam confronted Eric Bischoff and demanded a match with Kane. Bischoff granted him the match for next week but tried to talk him out of it, saying RVD wouldn't want to battle Kane in his current state. RVD blew him off and said he was going to finish Kane next week.
Meanwhile, Jericho had a petition going around which would be sent to Linda McMahon, ordering the resignation of Steve Austin as co-GM. Rico and Tommy Dreamer entered and Rico decided to sign while Dreamer seemed to disagree with the whole idea.
Theodore Long and Rodney Mack made their way out next and Long said he'd like nothing more than to see a black man take over Austin's position. Long said he'd do it himself but he was too busy running Playa's Inc. Long suggested Snoop Dogg, Marion Barry and Johnny Cochran as some possible replacements. Long then started a "Hell no, Stone Cold!" chant which was echoed by Jericho and co. backstage. Rosey then made his way for his match with Mack.
Rodney Mack defeated Rosey in 0:55. Long interefered and hit Rosey with a lowblow which allowed Mack to get a rollup for the win. Afterwards, The Hurricane came out and hit Mack with a missile dropkick as Long headed up the ramp.
Backstage, Jericho got Evolution to sign the anti-Austin petition.
Booker T defeated Christian to retain the Intercontinental Title in 7:50. Booker dominated a good part of the match up until the ref was hit and subsequently laid out. While the ref was down, Christian hit the Unprettier and Nick Patrick came out to fill in and made a two count. Later, Christian rolled up Booker and held the ropes and got the three count. However, the other referee (who's name escapes me at the moment) argued with Patrick and said Christian held the ropes. Austin walked out with another referee in tow and sent Patrick and the other ref to the back and ordered the match to continue. Not 30 seconds later, Booker hit the ax kick for the win.
Backstage, Bischoff answered his cell phone and spoke with Linda McMahon.
Gail Kim defeated Molly Holly to retain the Women's Title in 3:13. Strong performances from both women with Kim getting the win with a nice huricanrana.
In Stamford, Kane approached Ross and handed him a gift. Ross opened it and Kane pulled a can of gasoline out from it. Kane said if Ross made fun of him at any time during the interview, he'd set him on fire. After the break, the interview commenced with Ross showing some footage of Steve Austin getting in Kane's head and trying to motivate him to become the monster he once was. Ross asked Kane how that made him feel to which Kane replied, "Anger, hatred." Kane said guys like Steve Austin and Rob Van Dam were supposed to be his friends, they weren't supposed to put him through the pain of revealing his face. Ross mentioned that after seeing Kane's face the past couple of weeks, it appears as if there's no scars or anything. Kane replied that his doctors tried to tell him the same thing. Kane called himself a monster and said JR had no idea what it was like to be him. JR said he knew what it was like to be picked on and said Kane just needed to say the hell with it and not allow people to get under his skin. Kane became angered and stood up, towering over JR until Austin's music hit inside the arena. Austin hit the ring and told Kane to settle down. Kane said the only way for JR to know what it's like is to feel his pain. Kane threw Ross to the floor and then poured the gasoline on him as Austin pleaded with him to stop. Kane lit a match and tossed it on "JR" and then left as Ross' clothes were left burning for a few seconds. Crew members killed the fire and then tended to Ross. In the arena, Bischoff came out and blamed Kane's actions on Austin. Bischoff then said that he had just gotten off the phone with Linda McMahon and said he plans on being in Los Angeles next week to fire him.
