WrestleZone Radio 1/23: Special Guests - Gary Goodridge & Big Vito!
Submitted by Matthew Boone on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at 11:39 PM EST
The January 23rd edition of WrestleZone Radio featuring Matt Boone, Ryan Clark, and John Hartnett is now online.
Matt and Ryan start off by making up for lost time by digging into the WrestleZone Radio mailbag. The two skipped the mailbag segment due to time constraints on the last two shows, so they had plenty of questions and comments to address on the air.
From there, they were joined by MMA correspondant from MMANews.com, John Hartnett. Matt and John run down two top stories from mixed-martial arts. First being the Tito Ortiz vs. Chuck Liddell for UFC 42 apparently a no-go. Both explain why the fight is a no go, and the chances of the fight coming off at a later date. The other top story was an in-depth discussion about the incredible Mark Kerr documentary, "Smashing Machine" which aired on HBO several times the past few weeks.
Then it was time to welcome former UFC hard-hitter and current PRIDE sensation, "Big Daddy" Gary Goodridge. Goodridge discussed his feelings on being disrespected by Mike Bernardo at a K-1 show, wanting to fight Tank Abbott and possible UFC return. In addition to that, he discussed being confused with Bob Sapp in Japan, his hardest fight ever, beating 1,000 Japanese professional arm-wrestlers in an arm-wrestling competition in one hour, and his status with both PRIDE and K-1. Very good interview.
After that, the show got wild. Matt, Ryan, and John had time to kill so they decided to call up former WCW Tag and Hardcore champion Big Vito without telling him in advance. John then challenged Big Vito to a freestyle rap competition live on the air, and Big Vito accepted. After the two rapped for a while, Vito told everyone how he's been keeping himself busy these days, as well as going on some tours in Japan.
The insanity didn't stop there as the three still had time to kill and decided to bring on past WrestleZone Radio personality, "Jose Cortez". The outspoken WrestleZone Radio forum member and first ever "Guest Host WrestleZone Radio For A Day" contest winner chatted with the three for quite a bit bringing up past jobs host Ryan Clark had. Very funny stuff there.
