    WWE Raw - 1/20/02
    Live from Providence, RI
Announcing: Jim Ross & Jerry "The King" Lawler

Raw started off with a little homage to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and then we took a look at the events from last week when Vince McMahon gave Eric Bischoff 30 days to shake up Raw. Last night, Bischoff promised to drop a bombshell and tonight we'll find out what it's all about. Inside the arena, Triple H's music hit and he came out with Ric Flair. H claimed that Scott Steiner couldn't beat him so he had to use a sledgehammer to put him out. H said as they say in the movies, there ain't gonna be no rematch. That's when Scott Steiner made his way out and demanded a rematch, however Triple H produced a doctor's note saying that he wasn't cleared to wrestle. Flair got on the stick and said Steiner could go head to head with Batista who made his way to the ring just as H jumped Steiner. However, Steiner came back to clothesline Triple H and he and Flair got out of the ring and held Batista from going in.

Rob Van Dam defeated Jeff Hardy at 3:56. Ross and Lawler hyped up this match saying Hardy made the challenge due to RVD eliminating him from the Rumble last night. Nice match to kick things off with a lot of counters and such. Van Dam missed a Fivestar Frog Splash but was able to kick out after a Swanton Bomb from Jeff. RVD then countered with a backslide to get the pin. After the match, Hardy clotheslined RVD out of the ring and threatened to hit him with a chair but the ref got in between and sent Jeff to the back.

Backstage, Christian and Christopher Nowinski were wondering just what Bischoff had in store for tonight when Bischoff himself stopped by. Christian and Nowinski asked about the surprise but Bischoff said they'd have to wait like everyone else. Bischoff walked off as Nowinski said he thought he knew what the surprise was but he wouldn't let Christian in on it.

Meanwhile, Randy Orton confronted Steiner about his loss to Triple H last night and mentioned something about his shoulder. Steiner grabbed Orton and slammed him up against a wall while Orton claimed his shoulder was only at 95 percent and he couldn't afford a setback. Steiner called Orton an asshole and left.

Backstage, Chief Morely had Nick Patrick in his office and asked him to take a look at the match he refereed last night between the Dudleyz and Storm and Regal. Morely pointed out that D'Von used the brass knucks on Storm to win the match. Patrick admitted he made a mistake and should've DQ'ed the Dudleyz immediately. Morely mentioned that Patrick should make a public apology.

After the break, Chief Morely hit the ring, flanked by Nick Patrick. After Patrick apologized, Morely demanded that he reverse his decision and reward the tag titles to Strom and Regal. Patrick said he was sorry for the mistake but a referee's in-ring decision is final, so there's no way he can reverse his decision. At that point, Morely called out The Dudley Boyz who made their way down. Morely tried to force them to hand over their titles but the Dudleyz replied by saying that Regal was the one who brought the brass knucks to the ring. Morely claimed that's why he came to the ring last night, to stop them from using the knucks on the Dudleyz. Bubba called it a load of crap and then insulted Morely, calling him an ass-kissing, washed up porn star. Morely again demanded the titles and said they'd regret it if they didn't hand them over. Bubba said they only thing they regret was not using Vince McMahon's advice in the match last night, and that advice was, "D'Von, get the tables." The Dudleyz set up a table and prepared to put Morely through it but Lance Storm and William Regal entered the ring and took out D'Von and then but Bubba through a table. Morely then sanctioned a tag title match to start immediately.

Lance Storm & William Regal defeated The Dudley Boyz for the World Tag Team Titles in 0:15. Regal simply pinned Bubba after the table spot. Patrick was reluctant to count but did it anyway.

The Hurricane and Trish Stratus defeated Steven Richards and Victoria at 2:59. This was a mixed tag match, not an intergender one, which meant the girls battled each other and the same for the men. Towards the end, Richards tried to hit Trish with a double underhook DDT but the Hurricane jumped in and nailed Richards with the Shining Wizard. Trish then took out Victoria with the Stratusfaction for the win.

Backstage, Bischoff tried to get through to Vince McMahon but ended up having to relay a message to him through his personal secretary, Beth. He told her to tell Vince that Bischoff was about to drop the bombshell next. Bischoff then threw a dart a picture of Shane McMahon before heading to the ring.

The latest Sean O'Haire vignette aired, this one was about church and the question of whether there even is a God. O'Haire capped it off by saying, "Hey, I'm not telling you anything you don't already know."

In the arena, Eric Bischoff hit the ring and talked about how he was ordered by Vince McMahon last week to shake Raw to its very foundation. Bischoff said when McMahon told him he had 30 days last week, he honestly didn't know what to do, but then he saw the Raw tenth anniversary show and had a vision. Highlights of Raw X were shown with Vince McMahon accepting the Superstar of the Decade award on behalf of Steve Austin and mentioning that Austin wasn't invited to the show. Bischoff mentioned the walk out of Austin and said that he had heard everyone's story on the situation. But, Bischoff said that as of 8 a.m. this morning, he stopped the presses on Raw Magazine so that he could get Steve Austin to tell his side of the story, but that wasn't the bombshell. Bischoff then invited Austin to return home to Raw. This got a good reaction from the crowd but the cheers went to jeers when Bischoff said he was asking Austin to make his return at No Way Out.

Booker T & Goldust defeated 3 Minute Warning (with Rico) at 9:24. Goldust took a beating from Rosey and Jamal while building up the hot tag to Booker. After Booker finally made his way in, he cleaned house and did the Spinaroonie to a good reaction. After a counter from Jamal, Booker came off the ropes to nail the axe kick for the win.

Highlights from Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels' confrontation at the Rumble was shown as Ross and Lawler announced that Jericho vs. Test was next.

Chris Jericho battled Test (with Stacy Keibler) to a no contest at 7:03. Jericho came out with a mic and said much like Martin Luther King, he had a dream, and that was to win the Royal Rumble last night. Jericho said his dreams were crushed by Shawn Michaels, but he vowed to get his revenge on him. Jericho rushed to the ring and the match was underway. It wasn't much, but Test did hit a nice powerbomb for a near fall. The match went to the outside where Jericho swung a chair at Test who ducked. Jericho connected with the ringpost and accidentally clocked Stacy. The match stopped there as Jericho looked shocked and kept repeating that he didn't mean to hit Stacy. Test was visiblly upset as EMT's came to ringside and put Stacy in a neck brace. After the break, the EMT's got Stacy onto a stretcher as a couple of refs escorted Jericho to the back. Stacy was then wheeled up the ramp as Ross and Lawler said that sometimes accidents happen in the business.

Ross then introduced us to a previously recorded clip from The World where Al Snow and the five remaining Tough Enough competitors were on hand. Snow invited everyone to log on to toughenough.com to cast a vote for the final cut and then tune in this Thursday at 10 p.m., live from The World to see who will win Tough Enough III.

Backstage, Flair hyped up Batista for his match with Steiner.

D'Lo Brown (with Teddy Long) defeated Tommy Dreamer in a Singapore cane match at 3:42. Seems as though Long is D'Lo's new manager. Long cut a promo about black men having to take matters into their own hands. D'Lo then said, "Free at last, free at last, free to cane a white boy's ass." Brown and Dreamer traded cane shots back and forth throughout the match and D'Lo came out on top after a Sky High.

The Nathan Jones vignette that priemered last night during the Rumble was shown. This one shows genuine Australian news footage about Jones' arrest and his transfer to a maximum security prison. Jones was arrested for armed robbery I believe and apparently earned the nickname the Boggo Road Colossus.

Batista (with Ric Flair) battled Scott Steiner to a no contest at 1:29. The match barely got off the ground when Randy Orton ran in and attacked Steiner. Orton was quickly disposed of, and then Flair came in and laid a few chops on Steiner which he no-sold. Eventually, Triple H hit the ring and along with Orton, Batista and Flair, they beat down Steiner. Triple H laid into Steiner with a few good shots which caused Steiner to bleed. Eventually, H hit the Pedigree and left Steiner laying. Afterwards, Flair raised the hands of H, Orton and Batista as the show went off the air.
