The following are re-written news highlights from an article on Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle from WWE.com:
Kurt Angle's goal as he mentions in every post-match conversation with WWE.com after a pay-per view, was to steal the show. Angle felt he did just that during his memorable bout with Chris Benoit for the WWE title at Royal Rumble.
Other than a beet-red chest courtesy of the knife-edge chops from Chris Benoit, Angle physically felt fine after the match. His surgically repaired knee didn't bother him too much during the match, but he felt it slowed him down by about half a step.
After the match was over, Chris Benoit received two standing ovations. The first one everyone saw, was from the live crowd in Boston in the ring. The second, was shared with Kurt Angle when the two went backstage after their match to see the entire locker room standing and applauding their 25-minute effort.
Benoit told WWE.com he had goose bumps up and down his arms when the crowd was applauding what he loves to do - wrestle. He said it was one of those moments where the hair on the back of your neck stands up, and a moment he would never forget.
As far as Benoit's health went, he said other than normal bruises, aches, and pains from taking bumps for such a long time he was physically fine after the match. No problems with his neck which was repaired several months ago after being broken and putting him on the sidelines for nearly a year.
When comparing last night's match to their match at Unforgiven in 2002, Angle said last night's match told a better story, but the match at Unforgiven was better technique-wise. Benoit said he doesn't compare any of his matches, but was proud of his effort last night.
Benoit said he was proud to be competing against an athlete such as Kurt Angle, and he has a ton of respect for the Olympic gold medalist. Angle said plain and simple, "Chris Benoit is the best wrestler in WWE."
