The following report was written by Zach Arnold of PuroresuPower.com:
WRESTLE-1 ran on January 19th at the Tokyo Dome, claiming 40,000 paid (a false number). Results:
They did an angle in which Bob Sapp came out to Madonna's "Holiday" and danced to the ring. Sapp then grabbed the microphone and said to Ernesto Hoost at ringside, "Hi, Mr. Perfect Loser!" to which Hoost responded, "Bob, boy, I am Mr. Perfect... the Perfect Beast!" and this set up Sapp vs. Hoost in the main event.
1. Abdullah the Butcher defeated SATA...yarn (Masaaki Satake) in 7 minutes, 35 seconds with an elbow drop. After the match, Butcher grabbed the microphone and said that his best friend (The Sheik) had died and that he would remember him very fondly.
2. In the T2P match, Anthony W. Mori, Takuya Sugawara, & Taiji Ishimori defeated Milano Collection AT, Masato Yoshino, & Shuji Kondo in 13 minutes, 18 seconds when Ishimori used a hurricanrana on Kondo for the win.
3. Kendo Ka Shin defeated Sabu in 12 minutes, 28 seconds with a cross-arm scissors hold. A car-wreck of a fight (in more ways than one) that featured dives, tables, and dedication spots to the late Sheik.
4. Ultimo Dragon & Kaz Hayashi defeated Ultimo Guerrero & Rey Bucanero in 17 minutes, 40 seconds when Dragon used a Dragon Sleeper on Bucanero for the submission.
5. Satoshi Kojima & Hiroshi Hase defeated Heath Herring & Terry Funk in 10 minutes, 58 seconds when Hase used a Northern Lights Suplex Hold on Herring for the win.
6. Mark Coleman & Kevin Randleman defeated Jan The Giant Convict (Jan Nortje) & Singh The Giant Convict (Giant Singh) in 11 minutes, 48 seconds when Coleman used a hurricanrana on Singh for the win.
7. Shin'ya Hashimoto defeated Joe Son in 5 minutes, 34 seconds. It was an attempt at a comedy match in which Hashimoto humiliated Joe Son and beat him up so badly, that Hashimoto yelled at Mutoh on the microphone and said that he was pissed off that he had to fight someone so "unmanly" that he declared war on Mutoh & All Japan. They did an angle early in the match in which Son tried to sneak attack Hashimoto before the gong, but didn't get anywhere with it and then during the match, tried to use poison fog (green mist) but that didn't work either. Hashimoto compared Son as a fat, little version of Mutoh.
8. Keiji Mutoh & Bill Goldberg defeated Brian Adams & Brian Clarke in 17 minutes, 56 seconds when Goldberg used a Jack-hammer on Clarke for the win. The weird angle going into this match involved Keiji Mutoh trying to "find the missing Superman" Goldberg by calling people left and right and wondering if Goldberg would show up at all. Quote of the night came after the match in which Mutoh was asked about the W-1 show and wrestling in general and Mutoh said, "Professional wrestling is not clear anymore to me, again." Mutoh also said that he expects the "W-1 system" to step up gradually for each show. And another gem of a quote -- "Does Hoost do pro-wrestling? I do not understand it." This right here is all you need to know about the state of the Japanese wrestling industry.
9. Ernesto "Beast" defeated Bob Sapp in 5 minutes, 15 seconds with a school-boy roll-up in a fight that featured trash-talking and chair shots. The match featured low-grade offense, including Sapp trying to use an STF (Hoost gave him one, instead) and Hoost trying some flying moves. They did an angle in which Voz, who's gym that Hoost trains at (and is a 50-year old man), did a run-in and Sapp tried to attack him and Hoost ended up blasting Sapp with a chair and school-boying Sapp for the finish. Just said to be an absolute mess that tried to promote the strength of K-1 but came off as goofy. The funniest thing from the fight is that Hoost attempted a cobra twist and said that his "sensei" Voz taught him how to do it.
