WWE JUDGMENT DAY 2003
May 18, 2003
Live from Charlotte, North Carolina
Announcing for Raw: Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler
Announcing for SmackDown!: Michael Cole and Tazz
The show opened with a promo much like the ones we've seen before for Judgment Day and inside the arena, Ross and Lawler, as well as Cole and Tazz, welcomed us to Judgment Day.
Stone Cold Steve Austin came out to kick off the show. Austin said he was going to make his promo short and sweet and said he was going to watch the show from a skybox.
John Cena & The FBI (Chuck Palumbo & Johnny Stamboli with Nunzio) defeated Spanky, Chris Benoit & Rhyno at 3:55. Cena came out and rapped a promo before the match. Spanky, Benoit and Rhyno all charged the ring at the same time and got the upper hand in the early going but soon after, Cena and the FBI isolated Spanky. This was a really short match which ended when Spanky was pinned but while Benoit had Cena tapping from the Crossface.
Up in the skybox, Eric Bischoff walked in and said everything between him and Austin had to be 50-50. Austin offered Bischoff a hot dog and a beer which he grudgingly accepted.
Meanwhile, Mr. America was seen walking backstage when he was approached by Gregory Helms, ace reporter. Helms speculated that it was Hogan behind the mask while Mr. America speculated that it was The Hurricane underneath Helms' suit. Both men gave each other a look and then said their sources must've been wrong.
La Résistance defeated Scott Steiner & Test (with Stacy Keibler) at 6:20. Grenier and Dupre cut another anti-American promo, saying our government is forcing us to hate the French. Test really shouldn't care too much about this whole anti-American deal anyway, he's Canadian. Anyway, Steiner and Test dominated early on but later, Test had the cover but the ref was distracted with Steiner and Stacy. Test was dropkicked into Stacy and (big surprise) she fell off the apron but was caught by Steiner. In the ring, Test accidentally plowed Steiner with a big boot which led to the flapjack and the win for La Résistance.
Josh Mathews was with Eddie Guerrero backstage. Guerrero introduced his new tag team partner, Tajiri.
Eddie Guerrero & Tajiri defeated Team Angle at 14:10 in a ladder match to capture the WWE Tag Team Titles. A very good match put on by all four men. Benjamin and Haas seemed to do pretty well, this being their first high risk match in WWE. At one point, Haas had Tajiri on a ladder and lifted him up as Benjamin leapfrogged over from another ladder. The match was back and forth with both teams making runs for the titles. Haas and Guerrero went up at the same time and Guerrero hit a sunset powerbomb off the ladder. Finally, Guerrero was making his way up with Benjamin behind him when Tajiri came around the other side and spit the mist in Benjamin's face. Guerrero then captured the titles.
Backstage, Terri tried to get a word with Chris Jericho when they were interrupted by Roddy Piper. Jericho told Piper he made a wrong turn and that the senior citizen's center was down the street. The two cut an excellent promo with each other, each of them taking shots at their respective segments on Raw and SmackDown!. Finally, Jericho said he planned on tossing out eight other assclowns tonight to win the Intercontinental title and Piper said he was gonna tear off Mr. America's mask to reveal Hogan. Piper almost said they had something in common, but stopped himself and walked away. Good segment.
Ross and Lawler then talked about the return of the Intercontinetal title and then rolled a clip on the history of the belt, showing many of the champions over the years.
Christian won the Intercontinental Title Battle Royal at 11:55. Competitors: Val Venis, Chris Jericho, Lance Storm, Test, Rob Van Dam, Kane, Goldust & Booker T. Chief Morely is fired but Val Venis came out first and said tonight marked his return. Up in the skybox, we saw Austin telling Bischoff that Venis was hired. Five participants were tossed within the first few minutes. Everyone attacked Kane to start and eventually they collectively tossed him out. Storm was actually the first to go, barely lasting a minute. Test and Venis followed. Van Dam was tossed over but hung on, only to have Jericho springboard off the second rope and kick him off the apron, thus eliminating him. The final four were Christian, Jericho, Goldust and Booker T. Goldust delivered the Shattered Dreams to both Jericho and Christian and then tried to toss out Booker after the Spinaroonie. Booker reversed it and tossed Goldust over the top instead. After that, Jericho and Christian worked together in beating down Booker T until Jericho went for a Lionsault and Christian shoved him over the top. Christian later went for a dropkick on a downed Booker T but T dodged it and Christian knocked out the ref. Booker T then eliminated Christian but the ref never saw it. Pat Patterson, who was introduced earlier to present the winner with the IC belt, tried to give it to Booker T but Christian stole it away and clocked Patterson. Christian then ran in the ring and plastered T with the title belt. Just as the ref came to, Christian dumped Booker over the top and was declared the new Intercontinental champion.
Backstage, Sable warned Torrie that she'd never lost a bikini contest before.
Torrie Wilson defeated Sable in a bikini contest. After the judging, Torrie kissed Sable to show there were no hard feelings. Sable seemed impressed that her mind games were working on Torrie.
Backstage, Vince McMahon got Roddy Piper fired up for his match against Mr. America.
Mr. America (with Zach Gowen, aka Tenacious Z) defeated Rowdy Roddy Piper (with Sean O'Haire) in 4:50. Gowen, the one-legged "fan" from SmackDown! was with Mr. America at ringside. O'Haire got himself involved but accidentally knocked out Piper with a pipe. Vince McMahon came down and tried to stop the ref from making the three count but Gowen held McMahon back and Mr. America got the win.
Backstage, Stephanie McMahon caught up with Triple H and told him to be careful out there.
Triple H (with Ric Flair) defeated Kevin Nash (with Shawn Michaels) by disqualification at 7:22 to retain the World Heavyweight Title. Nash dominated the entire match which Ross kept billing as a fight. Triple H's first offensive move with the Pedigree which couldn't keep Nash down for three. H then brought in the sledgehammer but the ref prevented him from using it. Nash was then DQ'ed when the ref saw him clock H with the title belt. Nash kept up the assault though, dragging Triple H up the aisle and to the announcer's table where he put him through it with a Jackknife powerbomb.
Up in the skybox, Bischoff was hammered and ended up barfing out the window of the skybox onto the poor fans down below.
Jazz (with Theodore Long) defeated Victoria (with Steven Richards), Jacqueline and Trish Stratus at 4:47 to retain the Women's Title. Pretty good match between the four. Towards the end, Stratus was cleaning house but was shoved over the top while trying to hit the Stratusfaction. Jazz then broke up a fisherman's suplex Jacqueline had hit on Victoria. Jazz then hit Jackie with a DDT and covered her for the win.
Brock Lesnar defeated Big Show in a stretcher match at 15:27 to retain the WWE Title. Lesnar and Show went at it pretty good here, trading shots with the stretcher and fighting outside the ring for most of the match. After several failed attempts to wheel Show out on the stretcher, Lesnar headed to the back as Rey Mysterio entered the ring through the crowd and hit Show with a 619. Lesnar came back out behind the wheel of a forklift and Mysterio jumped on Show's back and tried to choke him out. Lesnar put the stretcher on the forklift and then got in the ring and delivered an F5 to Show. Lesnar then rolled Show onto the forklift and drove back past the line to win the match. Lesnar raised the forklift as high as it could go with Show still on it. Lesnar then celebrated on top the forklift as the show went off the air.
