- WWE.com has posted an interview with Kurt Angle where he talks about deciding to go with Dr. Hae-Dong Jho surgical procedure which will keep him out for 2 months unlike the year he was looking at if he went for spinal fusion surgery. Here is a sample from the interview:
Kurt Angle has elected to undergo a surgical procedure that will keep him out of action for four to eight weeks. The operation is scheduled for Friday in Angle's hometown of Pittsburgh.
Angle has known he would need surgery since WWE's tour of South Africa in early March. He was on the verge of having spinal fusion surgery -- the same procedure that Stone Cold Steve Austin, Chris Benoit, Rhyno, Lita, Bob "Hardcore" Holly, Scott 2 Hotty and Edge underwent -- which would have kept him out for a full year.
But a few weeks ago, he got in contact with Dr. Hae-Dong Jho of the Jho Institute for Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery. As his institute's name would suggest, Dr. Jho performs an operation that is less intensive than spinal fusion, with recovery time estimated at just a month or two.
Angle was initially skeptical, as the surgery sounded too good to be true, but he met with Dr. Jho on April 1, two days after WrestleMania, and decided to take a chance.
"The reason I like it is, I'm going to have full flexibility in my neck, which is what you need in this business," Angle said.
Angle said one of the key factors in his decision is the fact Stone Cold Steve Austin, just three years after having fusion surgery, is having problems again and has been told he needs more fusion. (Austin says he is holding off on surgery at this time.)
