    Breaking The Walls Down

Hello and welcome back to another edition of Breaking The Walls Down. After complaining about the snow, we’re finally starting to get some warm weather, if you can consider 65 degrees warm (which I do, since I’m used to feeling 15 degrees and below). Anyway, onto Bits and Pieces.

    Bits and Pieces

Well, I watched the NWA-TNA PPV. And, while it was the first PPV that they had where there were a woman was actually topless, overall it was a pretty good show. The X-Division match was incredible, although I must say that the Storm guy from England didn’t live up to this hype or anywhere close to it. Now, there could be a lot of contributing factors to that, so I’ll wait and reserve judgment on him. The PPV was pretty good, but I wouldn’t be willing to buy the PPV every week. However, I will be getting other NWA-TNA PPVs down the road.

Supposedly Bill Goldberg has signed with the WWE. Will this mean something for them? Hopefully, but it is my dream that the WWE somehow really uses him to his full potential (among other wrestlers). Somehow Bill Goldberg invading would be nice, with other former WCW wrestlers backing him up, but, unfortunately, that idea is old and will not do.

Kevin Nash is apparently doing everything he possibly can to be apart of Wrestlemania. On one hand I can’t say I blame him, as it will be a big payoff, but on the other hand, he’s done nothing for the card. And, more than likely he won’t add much to the card. Unfortunately Kevin Nash is getting old and his knees can’t cut it in the ring like they used to. Maybe one last run is left in him, we’ll see.

    Anyway, onto the column.

    Is Austin Right?

I’ve thought about what Austin’s said. It takes you beyond the short-term and makes you realize the ramifications on the long-term. Plain and simple, Hollywood scriptwriters don’t have what it takes to make wrestling entertaining.

Now, don’t get me wrong, maybe one Hollywood scriptwriter would be fine on a writing team, but not a crew of them. Wrestlers know what is best. They know the feel of the crowd and what the fans want. Some have websites where they can read what fans want. The Hollywood scriptwriters, seemingly, are out of touch with reality.

Paul Heyman and Tommy Dreamer are prime candidates for scriptwriters. No matter what the backstage politics may be in the WWE, these two have got to be noticed. Tommy Dreamer has a creative mind that is blossoming and Paul Heyman has a creative mind that is nearly unparalleled in the business.

So, why are these two not writing scripts in the WWE? I guarantee you that these two really could have come up with something intriguing a while back that would have started to turn the WWE around. Paul Heyman had a good thing going in ECW and the memory of ECW lives on with many fighting for its return. Why was ECW so popular and why do fans reminisce over past ECW events as if they were a part of their own life?

The reason: Paul Heyman and Tommy Dreamer knew what the fans wanted. This wasn’t for a small portion of the fans, either. Heyman and Dreamer knew what the fans in the wrestling business craved. If ECW had the money, they could have gone on and been a serious contender to the WWE. The reason the ECW couldn’t become a serious contender was because ECW was a promotion that both WCW and WWE liked to raid.

ECW lost a lot of talent to both federations, and, for the most part, this talent was ruined in those companies. If ECW had the financial backing, I guarantee you ECW would still be around. In fact, ECW would be a more serious contender than the NWA-TNA. Why, because of the creative genius of Paul Heyman and Tommy Dreamer.

Creative genius for TV doesn’t necessarily have to come from Hollywood, it can be found in your own backyard. Too bad Vince McMahon hasn’t discovered the full potential of his own backyard. He can give tryouts to both Heyman and Dreamer, but only time will tell if their storylines can come to fruition, unfortunately they’re never given the chance.

Well, that will do it for this week. I hope you all have a safe and happy week. And, as always, join me as I try to “educate people on the realness of the fakeness of professional wrestling” ©.

    Later,
    Chris Dailey
