Goldberg/WWE Getting Close, Benoit Heel Turn? More

The following news is derived and re-written from the Observer Newsletter.

  • WWE sent Bill Goldberg a contract prior to their No Way Out pay-per view in February. Apparently, at this point both sides are really close to an agreement. The money issue is seemingly settled, but creative and date issues still remain. However, unlike before, the sides are not as far apart in negotiating those issues out. If and when Goldberg does come to an agreement with WWE, it is expected that WWE will immediately debut him on their TV.

  • The original plan for the Kurt Angle injury situation was to have Chris Benoit replace him in the match with Brock Lesnar for the WWE title at WrestleMania XIX. The only issue there was whether or not to turn Benoit heel. One idea saw Benoit turning on Angle injuring him and having Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas back Benoit as the new "Team Benoit". Another had Benoit being revealed as the guy who mysteriously injured Edge at the No Way Out pay-per view. As we all saw, Angle decided to rough it out and work WrestleMania, so plans for a big singles push for Benoit were dropped once again. The last time would be when A-Train was chosen over both he and Matt Hardy as the guy who would injure Rey Mysterio during his injury problems.
