WWE Raw - 2/24/03 Live from Toronto, ON, CA Announcing: Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler
Raw kicked off live in Toronto with a battered and bruised Eric Bischoff limping to the ring. Bischoff had his arm in a sling, a fat lip and sunglasses covering up a black eye. Bischoff said depsite what Stone Cold Steve Austin did to him last night, he's still standing. To get back at Austin, Bischoff banned him from the building, but said Austin would be on Raw next week in New York where Bischoff said he'd have a welcoming committee ready. Bischoff then booked a 20 man over the top battle royal in which the winner would go on to face Triple H for the World Title at WrestleMania. Bischoff then said the biggest star in the industry would be appearing tonight on Raw and he gave way to The Rock's new entrance video. The Rock made his way out to a mixed reaction and slowly made his way down to the ring. The Rock said after whooping Hulk Hogan's candyass last night, he got the OK from Vince McMahon to do whatever he wanted, so he decided to come to Raw. Rock mentioned Toronto and the fans popped at the sound of their hometown being mentioned but Rock got himself some good heat when he mocked the fans' cheering for thier hometown. Rock said the reason he came to Toronto was because it was where all the people turned their back on the Rock. Rock recalls WrestleMania X8, which took place in Toronto. Rock mentioned what angered him more was the fact that the fans voted Steve Austin as the Raw Superstar of the Decade. Rock said he didn't care for Stone Cold and worked in "the Maple Leafs suck" into one of his rhymes. Rock then said he was throwing his hat into the 20 man battle royal tonight and he planned on winning it and then going on to WrestleMania and becoming the World Champion. Rock told the crowd that sing along with the Rock was over as they tried to say "If ya smell..." along with the Rock. Rock finished with his trademark line and left the ring.
Jazz defeated Jacqueline in 2:23. Victoria and Steven Richards sat in for commentary on this match and didn't seem to have much to say. Jazz made quick work of Jacqueline and after locking in a halfcrab, she turned it into the STF for the win. Afterwards, Jazz reminded us once again that "the bitch is back" but then the lights cut out and Trish Stratus made her return in her hometown. Stratus rushed to the ring and brawled with Jazz as Victoria came running down. Victoria ended up getting a kick to the face from Trish who then went back to brawling with Jazz. A handful of referee's finally came down to break it up.
JR then showed us highlights of Test's meeting with Girls Gone Wild owner and producer Joe Francis down in Florida. Test partied with the GGW girls and picked "Miss GGW" as we came back to live footage with Test alongside Maven watching the tape. Test said that Stacy didn't know what "GGW" was all about when she signed him up for it, but she does now and she's not too happy. Stacy entered the picture and had a word with Test before Chief Morely interrupted. Morely said since Test and Stacy thought Austin's beatdown of Bischoff was so funny last night, he booked them in a tag match against Christian and Chris Jericho. Test assured Stacy he wouldn't allow anything to happen to her.
Ross and Lawler then showed us footage of Goldust being "electrocuted" and then cut to an interview with Goldust and JR. Goldust twitched and shouted throughout the interview but said that he would have his revenge on Randy Orton and Batista.
Kane (with Rob Van Dam) defeated Lance Storm (with William Regal) in 2:23. Kane dominated the match and won it after two chokeslams. There was still a little tension between Kane and RVD over last nights mix up.
Backstage, Orton and Batista were shown suiting up for thier match. Orton mentioned that he thought he threw his shoulder out during their beatdown of Goldust a few weeks ago but he just saw his doctor and he's at 99%. Ric Flair entered the room and got the troops ready for their match against Booker T and Scott Steiner.
Booker T and Scott Steiner defeated Randy Orton and Batista (with Ric Flair) in 7:45. Steiner was booed by the crowd and Ross tried to cover it up by mentioning Steiner's tights which had the American flag on them. Steiner stood on the apron for nearly all of the match as Orton and Batista worked with Flair in beating down Booker. Eventually, Steiner came in and cleaned house and took to fighting with Flair and Batista on the outside. In the ring. Orton came off the top with a crossbody but Booker rolled through on the landing and got the pin.
Earlier footage was shown on the Rock's promo and then a promo was shown hyping Steve Austin's return to Raw next week.
Test and Stacy Keibler defeated Christian and Chris Jericho via DQ in 1:14. Jericho brought a chair into the ring and whacked Test which caused the DQ. Christian and Jericho then handcuffed Test to the ropes. Jericho then threw Stacy into the ring and locked her into the Walls of Jericho as Test watched helplessly. Jeff Hardy eventually ran in and tried to make the save but Christian took him out. Finally, Shawn Michaels ran out, Jericho dropped the hold and bailed and Christian took a superkick to the chops. HBK freed Test and then locked eyes with Jericho.
Christopher Nowinski defeated Jeff Hardy in 0:11 after the ref reveresed his decision. After the break, Hardy was still in the ring from his run in as Nowinski came out. Nowinski tried to cut a promo but his mic wasn't working so he had to start it all over again and he called Hardy a failure. Hardy kicked Nowinski and then planted him with a reverse Twist of Fate and made the pin after a Swanton Bomb. However, after the match, Hardy attacked Nowinski and the ref reversed his decision, giving the match to Nowinski by DQ.
Backstage, Kane and RVD were talking about the 20 man battle royal. Kane said he couldn't wait to get in the ring and toss out the Rock. RVD replied and said that he would be the one winning the contest.
Meanwhile, Rock was shown in his locker room talking on his cell phone. After his call he picked up his guitar and sang a short song about people giving him a hard time since his return. The Hurricane then interrupted and remprimanded the Rock for turning on his fans. Rock mocked Hurricane and called the Hamburglar and told him to go get him a cheeseburger. Rock then said he knew who he was and told Hurricane he couldn't beat any other superheroes. Hurricane interrupted and said there was one hero he could beat, the Scorpion King, he said even Brendan Fraser beat the Scorpion King. Rock got a little irked and said it was a special effect for the movie. Funny stuff.
Jerry Lawler defeated Chief Morely in a No DQ match at 4:41. Morely dominated a good part of the match but the Dudley Boyz ran in through the crowd and dropped Morely with a 3D. Lawler then dropped the fist from the middle rope for the win.
20 Man Battle Royal: Al Snow, Christian, Chris Jericho, Rosey, Jamal, The Rock, Booker T, Batista, Randy Orton, Tommy Dreamer, Rob Van Dam, Kane, The Hurricane, Maven, Steven Richards, Jeff Hardy, Test, Lance Storm, Rodney Mack, Scott Steiner. Booker T eliminated The Rock last to win the battle royal at 12:23. Your basic battle royal/rumble match with everyone trying to throw or push everyone else out. I found it a little humurous when Kane was beating down the Hurricane who was his former partner. Midway through the match, the Rock left the ring and joined Ross and Lawler for some funny commentary. The match dwindled down to Rosey, Lance Storm, Christian, Kane, Booker and the Rock who was still up at the announcers table. Kane then eliminated Rosey and Storm in that order and the final four were Christian, Kane, the Rock and Booker T. Christian jumped on Kane's back and had him in a sleeper but the Rock ran back in and eliminated both of them at the same time. Rock the noticed Booker T struggling to get to his feet and dropped him with a DDT and then nipped up staring at his hand. Rock then motioned that he was going to toss out Booker but Booker reveresed the Irish whip and threw Rock over the top to get the win.
