Corner to Corner: Merry Ho Ho Ho
Submitted by Stan Grubb on Thursday, December 26, 2002 at 2:31 AM EST

I am going to share a secret with you folks. I have never really enjoyed Christmas. I don't hate it, I don't love it, and quite frankly I'm fairly certain it could care less about me. We have a real good, I don't mess with it and it doesn't mess with me relationship. That is until my little one came along. Now Christmas, perish the thought, is fun. I dunno, maybe I am getting old!

      Corner to Corner: Christmas Edition

Hello everyone and WELCOME TO A VERY SPECIAL CHRISTMAS EDITION OF CORNER TO CORNER! I'm your holiday hellion, Stan Grubb. I hope all of you got what you wanted this year as I have a few gifts I have yet to unwrap. Are you curious yet as to what they are? That's right, HERE COMES A STAN GRUBB/CORNER TO CORNER Top 5 Christmas Wishes!

By the way, the Top 100 was delayed by my recent acquisition of, you guessed it, the FLU. All flowers and charity donations can be sent directly to me. I appreciate it ahead of time.

    WISH NUMBER ONE!-

Santa Claus, if you only brought me one thing this year it would be this. A career ending injury for the following people: Triple H, Rikishi, Albert, and just to clear the ring of all the nonsense- Bull Buchanan. Why, Stan, do you want to have these men out you ask? Well Santa, it's easy. All four of these men provide absolutely NOTHING for their respected rosters. In Triple H's case, he's been holding back a majority of top tier stars so he could maintain his self created spot. I respect his work ethic from before, but the man needs to go away and quick. Maybe we'll get lucky and Scott Steiner will eliminate him with a solid Steinerline. Rikishi, Albert, and Bull are three more examples of wasted air time. These three guys are almost as boring as watching paint dry. As a matter of fact, I would almost rather watch paint then any of their slow asses.

WISH NUMBER 2: If you couldn't eliminate those four, of if you could and wanted to give me something else, you could always bring STING back to the mainstream fold. Steve Borden is perhaps the most missed superstar of both smarks and marks alike. You don't see anyone on the message boards bashing him or claiming he was a waste. You never see Sting's name get dragged through the mud. In fact, the only time Sting has ever been questioned in these parts is by yours truly when he retired a year or so ago. And I'd do it again if it meant you'd bring him back. He was exciting to watch, he didn't have to curse or bleed all the time to make himself entertaining, and it was pretty nice to see a guy who actually worked no matter what.

Wish Number 3: If we're going to go ahead and bring people back, why not bring back the UNDERCARD TITLES? Sure, we like seeing Raw and Smackdown have their own champions, but when you've only got one MAJOR singles title on each show, what are you going to do to appease the undercard? No, Smackdown fans, after watching the devaluing of the Cruiserweight division, it no longer can be considered a MAJOR title. Quite frankly, had they just let the guys go at it all the time without any heavyweights being in their faces, it would have stayed a good division. So, what do we do? Trash the cruiserweight title or rename it. One or the other. If you're going to have everyone wrestling everyone, do away with the cruiserweight idea and just call it the Television title. Let's see if the heavies and the light heavies can all mix it up on Smackdown. While we're at it, let's bring back the United States Title and send it to RAW. Let's see if we can put some hussle behind people like Kane, Rico, Maven, Al Snow, RVD, and Christian to become top tier stars. NO, Kane is NOT a top tier star. Why? Because everytime he gets the shot, he's pushed back down by some overzealous moron who thinks Kane isn't ready. I don't know if it's Ross, McMahon(any of them), or Triple H, but damnit, if you really must devalue a character, set a limit and let him dominate a smaller field. Booker T, Goldust, and a few others from Raw COULD EASILY fit in here also.

Wish Number 4: DO AWAY WITH WOMEN'S WRESTLING OR GIVE THEM MORE TALENT!- Get more than just two people who can really go. I like Victoria and I think Trish Stratus improves every time she's out there, but without Lita or some other female star that can carry a decent match, I think we're screwed. Molly is apparently on her way back, but how long before she gets shuffled back into the big ass story? If you're going to have women's wrestling, give it the same effort you do with your other parts of the show.

    FINALLY, NUMBER FIVE!!!

Pay close attention... FIRE THE WRITERS FOR RAW! There comes a time when it's time to cut your losses and move on. Finally Scott Steiner is in WWE and on Raw, but I wonder how long it will take for the WWE TO RUIN him. NO WCW star has been able to establish a main event dominance inside the WWE. Jericho was close but after he got sabotaged by the McMahon/Helmsley tag team, it was all over but the shouting. Booker T almost got there and then he was suddenly SLAMMED down into tag teams. Oh yeah, need I mention his STARTLINGLY QUICK elimination from the elimintion chamber? C'MON! Enough is enough and- well Owen said that best. The bottom line here is that we need change and we need it now. Quit screwing with my television McMahon! You want to put asses in the seats? Hey, give us what we asked for.

I read somewhere that Vince once told a source that if he listened to the internet he'd be out of business. Well Vince you got that statement a little backwards. You won't go out of business. Even I, will not predict such an event, but you will certainly lose a large percentage of that core fanbase that you love so much if you continue to ignore the fans, on the net and otherwise. Even Joe Blow who just started watching WWE back in 98, knows something isn't right. It's not hard to tell anymore.

Changes are being attempted, but they're not sticking just yet. Am I jumping the gun here? No, I think I'm just voicing out as I do every time out here.

So with that, I wish you all a very Happy Holiday!!! I hope the WWE/NWA-TNA/WWA/whatever else I missed, can push forward in 2003 and give us the wrestling action we want. Take care and God Bless.
