(SPOILERS) Sunday Night Heat & Raw Taping Results from Oklahoma City
Submitted by Calvin Martin on Sunday, December 22, 2002 at 6:55 AM EST

The following report was written by Matt Boone of BackstageWrestling.com. Credit to Sam Cobb for calling in live updates from the arena throughout the show.

Show opened with Jim Ross coming out to Boomer Sooner (Oklahoma college football theme) played by "Pride Of Oklahoma" This was mentioned in his Ross Report, and they showed a replay of it about 20 minutes after the show started so it will most likely be a televised segment this Monday.

First match was Kane and RVD in a handicap match against 3 Minute Warning (Rosey, Jamal, & Rico). Kane and RVD got the win, same thing last Monday happened with RVD doing the thumbs, followed by Kane doing the fire signal after their win.

Eric Bischoff and Cheif Morely told Spike Dudley that he would be facing Batista in a one-on-one match later tonight. Bischoff told Spike that if any other Dudley Boy got involved in the match, all three Dudley's would be suspended.

D'Lo Brown came out and cut a promo. He worked up the racist gimmick once again. I believe this won't air as it seemed to be the typical commercial promo to get heat from the crowd when the match starts after the commercial. Test and Stacy Keibler came out right after the commercial where they replayed the JR entrance to Boomer Sooner. Test vs. D'Lo Brown is up next.

D'Lo Brown defeated Test in their match. Sam Cobb who is at the show helping with tonight's coverage said it was a lackluster match and nothing of any importance to mention from this one.

Eric Bischoff cleared up speculation for Royal Rumble. It is now official that 15 RAW guys will be in the Royal Rumble, and 15 SmackDown! guys as well. The winner of the Royal Rumble will face their brand's champion at WrestleMania. So if a RAW guy wins the Royal Rumble, then whoever is champion of RAW will be his opponent at WrestleMania. Same goes for if a SmackDown! guy wins.

Jim Ross made a comment about Eric Bischoff during his commentary, or Bischoff is just messing with him for being the hometown boy, either way he brought JR into the ring and said he will be wrestling tonight. It will be Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler versus a tag-team of Bischoff's choosing later tonight on RAW. If neither JR or The King wrestle, they're both fired from RAW.

Rosey and Jamal teased a breakup either during their match with RVD and Kane earlier, or later during a backstage segment. Rico also got into with them, but when it was all said and done nothing major happened. No breakups, just further teasing it.

Trish Stratus, Stacy Keibler, and Jacqueline defeated Victoria, Molly Holly, and Ivory in the Santa's Little Helper match. Typical diva match here, nothing special to note. Trish and Victoria got into it again after the match.

Triple H cut a promo saying he's going to beat Scott Steiner at Royal Rumble. Saying Scott Steiner isn't in "The Game's" league, and so on. Quick spot.

Scott Steiner came to the ring and cut a promo. He said Triple H ran like a "scared pussy" last week because he was nose-to-nose with the man who has the largest arms in the world. Come Royal Rumble, Scott Steiner is the new World champion, and Big Poppa Pump is your hook up, holla if you hear me.

Batista defeated Spike Dudley. Neither Bubba or D-Von interfered in the match, if they did all three Dudley's would be suspended, but they didn't, so none were. Was told this went a good 8-10 minutes with Batista winning in complete squash fashion. Spike took a lot of huge bumps to sell how big of a monster Batista is. Batista won the match with his sit-out powerbomb finisher.

Eric Bischoff announced that he decided who the opponents would be for Jim Ross and Jerry "The King" Lawler later tonight. It will be the team who has an 8-week winning streak, William Regal and Lance Storm. If either Jim Ross or Jerry Lawler backs out of the match, they will be fired without question.

Chris Jericho was shown backstage talking trash to Goldust. Both were by themselves, no Booker T or Christian around. Jericho played on Goldust for being the weak link, and said without Booker T he'd be nothing and tonight, Chris Jericho and Christian take back what is rightfully theirs - the World tag-team championships. Chris Jericho & Christian vs. Booker T & Goldust for the World tag-team titles is up next.

Chris Jericho and Christian came up short in their tag-team title rematch from Armageddon against Booker T and Goldust. Booker T and Goldust retained the World tag-team titles in a pretty decent match that actually ran pretty long. Nothing of any importance to note from this one, according to Sam Cobb who was calling in with the updates.

Big segment before the main-event was Scott Steiner vs. Triple H in an arm-wrestling match. Scott Steiner won the first one, in what was a typical back and forth worked arm-wrestling match. Triple H, pissed off, asked for a rematch. Scott Steiner slammed Triple H's arm down about 5 times in a row really fast, and had a big smirk on his face while doing so. Scott Steiner took the crowd who their hookup was, and that was that.

Main-event was Jim Ross and Jerry "The King" Lawler vs. William Regal and Lance Storm. Earlier in the show it was mentioned that if either failed to compete, they would be fired. Nothing happened there as both had the match. Eric Bischoff and Chief Sean Moorely took over the announcing duties during this one. Jim Ross and Jerry "The King" Lawler got the win when The Dudley Boys hit the 3D on William Regal, and Jim Ross hit Regal with the brass knuckles afterwards for the 1-2-3. After the match, JR spoke to the live Oklahoma crowd and said they'd win their upcoming college football game.

No Shawn Michaels, no Randy Orton injury update, and in about a 20,000 seat arena, only about 10,000 at best were filled according to Sam Cobb, our in-arena correspondant.

Just got back from the RAW tapings and here are the spoilers from what I remember.

Eric Bischoff comes out and says he wants a Cage match between Scott Steiner and Triple H and points to the roof where a Steel Cage is hanging but says it's not going to be tonight and we all boooooooooooo Bischoff. But says instead the cage is for the Main Event for the Tag Team Titles between BookerGold and JerichoXian which gets a huge pop.

    Test vs D'lo Brown
Not much of a match because Raven does a run in and DDT's everyone and grabs a microphone talking about a Revolution coming to RAW. Raven got alot of heat too!! D'lo grabs the mic and says he's being held down. the crowd didnt care

Skit with Jericho and Trish then HBK shows up and kills the promo... Trish ends up leaving with HBK and Jericho throws a fit.

Next was a 6 woman tag match which was horrible and i left to go get a beer. I just watched Trish enter the ring, That's all I cared about.

HHH and Flair come out and Flair talks about HHH hurting his quad again and mentions that Steiner wont be getting no title shot at the game anytime soon. Steiner comes out to HUGE AUSTIN LIKE POP! He calls HHH a pussy and gets back into his face again. Flair steps in and Steiner pushes Flair to the ground and HHH attacks Steiner and reveals that he is ok. Refs run down and break it up.

Kane and RVD cut a promo and Kane threatens RVD and walks off. They faced 3 Min Warning and in a shocker Kane turns heel and chokeslams RVD three times and walks off. Then Rosey and Jamal do their finishers on RVD. (HHH IS HOLDING THE MAN DOWN!)

backstage rvd is being checked on by medics and finds the stregth to get up and run around the arena looking for kane.

Eric Bischoff comes out and talks about the Royal Rumble and what the main event will be for the World Title and says HHH will defend the title against Scott Steiner in a Cage. Triple H walks out looking pissed and thinks Eric is on Steiner's side since they are from that buisness that got sold to us! (SHOOT!) HHH pedigrees Bischoff and Steiner runs in and kicks the shit out of HHH and leaves.

They run a RNN Update and Orton tells us that he's almost ready to return and then it cuts to a half naked girl next to him and he winks. ( this guy is the best!)

Xian/Jericho vs BookerGold in a Cage match - excellent match and Jericho cuts the greatest promo ever at the start of it and challenges HBGay to a match at the Royal Rumble. Booker/Gold win when HBK runs down and slams the cage door in jerichos face.

A great show live and Steiner is over and may be on Austin levels if the push continues.

    Biggest Pop
    1: Steiner!
    2: RVD
    3: Booker T
4: Randy Orton after the wink

    Biggest Heat
    1: Jericho
    2: Kane turning heel
3: HHH (nobody seemed to cheer the guy either, there was much silence during his promos)
    4:RAVEN!!!!!!!!!!!

I had front row seats to yeterday night's event. I figured I drop some notes by that might of been missed by other reports.

-None of the wrestlers even got the most heat of the night. That would belong to the 2 Canadian fellows waving their country's flag before the event.

-Richards got busted open from one of Hardy's twisting ariel moves. It appeared the back of Hardy's heel caught Richards right on the bridge of the nose. Will probably make for good tv with their current gimmick, because even though Victoria didn't kiss him, they still played to it well.

-You couldn't hear the OU band to save your life from where we were. I can't imagine how it was like for other people even further away. Hopefully the magic of editing will make the music audible. I personally think they should've used the theme on the PA.

    - The whole side where the camera was at was basically empty. As was about 3/4 of the top levels. I'd estimate only about 1/2 the arena was full, if that.

-I've read many people saying that 3 Minute Warning were teasing a break up. And it might of been that at first, but what it really turned out to be was Rico firing them up, because he's been tired of losing. After 3 Minute Warning got pretty intense Rico yelled "Guys, that's what I'm talking about!"

-Test and D'Lo did have two seperate tapings. I'm assuming they're going to edit both matches together, because their first match actually had a decent amount of time. It ended with D'Lo being DQ'd from shoving the ref. He then ran through the crowd. When they came back out, they basically repeated the climatic part of the match. But instead of the DQ, they had D'Lo get the boot from chasing Stacy through the ring. Everyone around thought they should've stuck with the first finish, because the 2nd finish has been done a ton of times already.

-At first the main event was going to be Chief Morely/Bischoff against KIng/JR, which would've made the match a lot better. But it turned into Regal/Storm against King/JR. Even though it wasn't cleanly and I am a JR fan, I strongly disagree with allowing the announcing team to beat a real tag team, even if it wasn't cleanly.

-This was a fun show to watch tonight, but I know it's going to come out horrible on tv. It felt more like a house show. They didn't further the possible Raven/Test feud. They randomly put the Hurricane against Chris Nowinski. Batista/Kane seems to be over now, because they had no interaction. There was no HBK to further his feud with Jericho. But I guess now D'Lo might be feuding with Test? Hell I dunno, gotta love booking on the fly as everyone says.

7:20 the OU Pride Marching Band comes out.
7:25 Kid Rock's WWE Desire video is shown to mild applause

    Dark Matches:

    1. Brandon Boone? from OKC vs. Hutch? of Houston
By default Hutch is the heel coming from Texas. Match had a very slow build with almost zero interest by the crowd. Hutch wins with a powerbomb.

Lita and Coach come out to the announcer's table.

No pyro yet but I assume it will be a Heat match.
    2. Jeff Hardy vs. Steven Richards w/Victoria
Richards won but got busted open during the match and Victoria was hesistant about kissing him.

Earl Hebner comes out and the Heat opening pyro commences and it's on with the show...

    Heat

    1. Maven vs. Nikki? Valentino
Decent match with good bumps taken by Maven who wins with a missle dropkick from the top rope onto the prone Valentino for the 1,2,3.

    2. Raven vs. Tommy Dreamer
Before the match began, Finkel announced that if Raven was successful he would be allowed back onto Raw. Raven tears off his kilt in the opening minutes of the match and several small ECW chants were audible. Raven wins with a low blow .

    3. Stamboli vs. Roach?
I never understood how difficult it was to hear the names announced for opening matches until tonite. Stamboli wins with a springboard flip looking move from the top turnbuckle to pick up the W over Roach.

Finkel shills some merchandise and the cannon comes into play shooting out free Booker T stuffed dogs. I bet those sell well. Lillian is then announced and delivers a stirring rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" and it's time for RAW!!!

    Raw

Opening begins with HHH/Steinr re-cap from last week and the intro with pyro sends the OKC crowd of about 9,000 into a frenzy!!!

1.RVD and Kane vs. 3 Minute Warning
Kane hits the chokeslam and RVD five star frog splashes the prone member of 3MW (I can't remember who) to pick up the victory. Many Rico Sucks chants were echoed throughout the match. Afterwards, 3MW teased dissension among the ranks when Rosie and Jamal were arguing then they turned their attention onto Rico who eventually calmed everyone down.

    Backstage Segment:
Eric Bischoff and Chief Morley are talking when Spike Dudley barges in and breaks a lamp. Spike demands retribution for his brothers' loss to Regal/Storm last week and the illegal usage of brass knux. Eric scoffs and instead signs a match of Spike vs. Batista with the added bonus of not allowing any Dudley Boy to interfere otherwise risk suspension.

    Commercial Break

The next segment may or may not air since they did several segments with D'LO throughout Raw.
    Backstage Segment:
D'lo is in his new "G" gear and talks with Coach about how much OU sucks and teases OSU afilliation. (I'm a student at OU so am fully behind my boys in Crimson and Creme) D'Lo then comments on OU's odds of beating WSU at the Rose Bowl and is quite helish siding with WSU. He debuts his new catchphrase "down with the brown?"

JR comes out to the melodious tune of Boomer Sooner played by the Pride Marching Band.

This match may or may not air as they did the same match later in the show.

    2. D'Lo vs. Test w/Stacey Keibler
Many D'LO sucks chants and interaction between D'Lo and Stacey where she slaps him for grabbing hr outside the ring. D'Lo is DQ'd from the match as he throws the referree aside and runs through the audience afterwards to avoid Test. My guess is they will not air this version.

Raw Rewind: JR kissing Vince McMahon's ass in his home state of Oklahoma a year ago.

    Commercial Break

Bischoff comes out to the ramp with Chief Morley in tow and announces the new Royal Rumble rules where each brand will have 15 superstars in their brand-specific Rumble match, with the winners facing their respective brand's champion at WMX9. Bischoff then confronts JR and King about choice comments made during the commercial break. Eric rolls the footage of JR mentioning how rude it was to show that disgraceful film in his home state. Bischoff then makes a tag team match for later in the broadcast as means of punishment with Jr/King vs. Bischoff/Morley. Bishoff names several intriguing possibilities for JR and King's replacement in his scolding. Jesse Ventura and Bischoff were the two named.

    Commercial Break

    3.Hurricane vs. Nowinski
My sign is shown during this match (the sign is pink and near the back post and reads OU rejected Nowinski) Match had good flow and as Nowinski was mounting the turnbuckle Maven comes out to distract him as Hurricane crotches Mr. Harvard and delivers the Shining Wizard for the pin.

    Backstage Segment:
HHH is confronted by Coach at his lockerroom door and announces that he will call out Steiner tonite in the ring.

    4. Batista w/ Flair vs. Spike
Just as you can imagine a total squash by Batista as he powerbombs Spike against the outside railing, which looked incredibly impressive, and two more times in the ring for the mercy pin.

    Backstage Segment:
Bisch and Morley are talking about the match with them tonite when Storm/Regal come in to offer their services to take on King/Jr tonite. Storm mentions their the only undefeated tag team on raw and want the job. Bisch accepts and urges Regal to use the knux in the match.

F-View TV shows the face girls in their dressing room all decked out in santa suits which are very un-santa like. Funny thing is Trish and Jackie talking to one another when a week earlier they were at odds with each other.

    Commercial Break

T shirt cannon is back at it again with RVD shirts this time.

    5. Victoria/Ivory/Molly vs. Trish/Stacey/Jackie
Funniest part of the match was Molly's chosen santa ensemble. She was decked out in a long nightrobe looking santa suit. Trish wins the match but I can't recall who she pinned. The face girls all pose mid-ring to the delight of the male fans while I groan.

    backstage Segment:
Steiner is asked to comment on the HHH call out. Steiner gladly accepts Hunter's invitation to the ring later.

    Backstage Segment:
Goldust walks into Jericho's dressing room in search of Booker T and stumbles upon the King of the World who gives another dazzling Flair-esque promo to the Bizarre One. Jercicho mentions that Booker is the one who wont he tag titles as he is the one who got the pin. Jericho succeeds in putting doubt into Goldust's mind.

    6. Booker T/ Goldust vs. Christian/Y2J for the tag titles
Another stellar match with awesome near falls and many referree decisions. Chris Squared takes the early lead and completes some double team moves early on. Booker T makes the hot tag and cleans house on the Canadian Chris's. Match ends when Jericho gets rolled up by Goldust for the pin and Goldie finds redemption.

    Backstage Segment:
A humorous display by RVD and Kane in this one. RVD finds Kane in the back and discussed Christmas with him. Kane mentions that he was locked in the basement as a child and tortured squirrels with razor blades as a means of fun. RVD hands Kane a present which is Hungry Hungry Hippos and is saddened by Kane's dismay. Kane mentions that he doesn't like Christmas and walks away. RVD then mutters that he should have gotten him Chutes and Ladders instead.

    Commercial Break

D'lo comes to the ring and calls out Test and wants the winner to take control of Stacey and Test hurries to the ring to accept D'Lo's challenge.

    7. Test w/Stacey vs. D'Lo
Test defeats D'Lo the same way as their early match and complete the same entire match for the re-do. D'Lo does not escape through the crowd this time. Test wins.

A shot of Heritage Park Mall is shown (which is one of the worst malls in OKC) and Santa is shown meeting children. Santa reveals his ugly side and tells a little girl that their is no Santa and tears off the outfit to reveal Sean O'Haire as the deranged psychopathic Santa.

    Backstage Segment:

Flair tries to talk Triple H out of going to the ring and HHH balks and says he is going now.

HHH comes out to the ring to berate the OKC fans and makes fun of their vernacular. HHH finally calls out Steiner after pointing out that Scott confronted him last week when HHH wasn't 100% and HHH says he's feeling good and wants to face Steiner. Big Poppa Pump appears and walks into thering to give a verbal lashing to the Champ. HHH proposes they have an arm wrestling match since he doesn't want to have their wrestling match in front of Okies. Poppa Pump and HHH are neck and neck in the contest when HHH throws out his legs and tries to gain unfair leverage against Steiner who is smiling all the while. Steiner pins HHH's arm and HHH goes at it again and is pinned two more times in rapid succession. HHH jumps out of the ring and walks to the back while Steiner says he will become the new heavyweight Champion at RR and says Holla if ya Hear me!!

    Commercial Break

Bischoff and Morley come out to do commentary on the final match of the evening.

    8. JR/King vs. Storm/Regal
JR again comes out to Boomer Sooner by the OU Band and does nothing the entire match. King helpd his own throughout the beginning but becomes overworked. Regal brings out the knux near the end and gets caught by King and subsequently drops them on the mat. Ross finally sees the knux and goes to hit Regal when he's caught from behind by Storm. King makes the save with help from the Dudley Boyz and JR slams one of the Unamericans (I forget again) with the knux. JR and King get the pin and JR is then hoisted on to the Dudz shoulders for his victory celebration. I believe the cameras go off at this point and te celebration continues with King getting hoisted as well. JR addresses the audience and speaks of his proud Oklahoma heritage. Bubba then mounts the turnbuckle and grans the guy in front of myself's sign which reads Texas Sucks Love Santa to massive applause. The Dudz finally leave the ring to tremendous applause and Lillian thanks us for attending.

Overall: Great show, a surprising move by HHH to actually LOSE to Steiner to build his momentum into Royal Rumble. Good introduction of O'Haire and a overall good show.
