I Know What You Did Last Monday- Wait for it, wait for it...where'd it go?

Hello and welcome BACK to I Know What You Did Last Monday. I’d like to apologize for my absence this past little while. I’ve had a LOT of school projects, finals, tests, papers, exams…you name it, I had it…but it’s done!

Now the good and bad side of it all. Why was I so busy? Well, school. So that left me VERY little time to do anything outside of school and homework. I haven’t been to the movie theater in about a month which is without a doubt a record for me! I’m seriously going into withdrawl…this Christmas break will be hell on my wallet, but great for the cinemas! But wait…I have to buy people presents…bah, the ‘giving’ spirit. Nuts to it.

Now why was I in school doing all of this? Well I’m who people like to call the “King of Procrastinating.” It’s a horrible, horrible thing. Over the past month I’ve realized that I had a lot of things that I didn’t do that I needed to do in order to pass! Well…low and behold, I got right to work! (Not) For some reason I have this thing where I can’t focus…at least not on things I HAVE to do. Anything else seems more interesting.

I’ll sit in my room at my computer ready to write up a story for our paper, and WHAM, it hits me. There could be something else I should be doing! So I’ll go through everything, figure out what I should be doing, and it ends up being the first thing that I WAS going to do, but just delayed doing. Now it’s too late so I have to go to bed and do it in the morning. Crap. But hey, I end up working well under pressure and EVERYTHING always works out one way or another…I’m like Jerry Sienfeld on that one episode where he always breaks even.

Now that’s good right? Well sorta. It’s good that I do, but look at it this way: what am I learning? I’m learning that no matter how long I put things off it’ll be okay. See if I failed JUST ONCE maybe I’d learn to do it sooner. Well, I think that lesson is a little harsh myself so let’s stick with the breaking even and doing everything else BUT what I have to do. See, if I didn’t have to do homework maybe I’d do it…no that’s a lie.

IN OTHER NEWS, with the little time I did have out of school AWAY from writing (which gets to be a hassle after a while if it’s about things you don’t like) I went out and bought Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth which is awesome. I didn’t really like the other Smackdown titles, but I’ve only gotten to play this one a bit for a few hours on occasion (quite addictive) and the season mode OWNS. It’s great. So much better than Just Bring It. All I gots to say is Just Buy It! See what I did there? (Go Helms)

Anyway, since I haven’t written in a while I thought I’d just go with the straight column today. So how about it? Shall we begin?

Wait for it…wait for it…bah, missed it again!

I was talking to a long-distance friend of mine (who will remain nameless, Mike aka Weezle) who I‘ve never met, but yet have the same twisted humour as about wrasslin, and while doing so a topic for this column came up.

We were talking about how things are going in wrestling right now…obviously down…and a few things came to light. Basically it’s the missed opportunities. Now this is NOT going to be a column about the invasion (because really, who cares?) or any of those angles…this is about the stars.

With the way things were set up these past months, Brock Lesnar was the most FEARED heel in wrestling! He was a MONSTER! He was UNBEATABLE! That is until he was beaten by a BIGGER man and then everything went away. Now don’t get me wrong, I actually LIKED the Big Show/Lesnar feud for a couple of weeks when Show was being MADE into a monster! But then what happened? Everything just slipped away. Brock is now a face for some reason after FINALLY becoming a big heel, and now he’s acting like an Austin rip-off. I’m not a fan of it, but people seem to cheer and they can cheer for who they like!

Though I just think things were missed! Look at it now: Lesnar has the injury and is out right? So Show is champion! Now nothing against Show…everyone bashes him, but hey, he’s just a guy working so what’s it matter? Anyway, so he’s built up great! Sure it BLEW that he was the first to beat Lesnar ONLY BECAUSE it made no sense! Brock beat EVERYONE! Rock/Hogan/Taker and a dozen others to get his status, then loses to someone who hadn’t been on a PPV in months? That makes NO sense to me.

But fine, let’s work with it. Show was being built well anyway, right? We all wanted a chance right? So we got one.

Show is now the worlds BIGGEST coward of a champion. What did they do? Ever since he won the title all that’s happened is he gets his ASS KICKED or he RUNS AWAY BEFORE getting his ass kicked! WTF? That’s not right. And Brock is the one doing it? WTF? Why’d he lose the title in the first place? Why would his streak end so suddenly for this? For him to be able to rest up and heal? Well that’s fine but like many have said there would have been better ways to go about it.

So instead of some controversial ending happening to vacate the title, we have Show beat Lesnar ONLY TO be beaten constantly by Brock and hold the title until Armageddon when you KNOW Angle will FINALLY get his title back.

This was pointless. So many feuds were missed. This is what I’m trying to talk about. First off, Show should have NEVER been in the main event! Brock should have stayed HEEL! Vince really IS starting to go nuts with his own ideas! I’ve always waiting to see how things played out, and I have with this and it’s insane! What’s he thinking? It just makes no sense.

I wrote a column a while ago about Edge feuding with Brock and how that would be reminiscent of a Bret Hart underdog fight as I feel Edge has the persona of a Bret Hart. While not all the technical moves, he’s got that underdog must win but how will he ever pull it out in the end look and feel to him (not that I’ve ever felt him.)

Still, I believe that would have worked…but it didn’t. That’s fine. They had Show win the title. Then what? Edge gets a title shot! YES! This could work! How does it end? CHOKESLAM BEAT DOWN! YES! This is GREAT! Why? Because now they have something to WORK with! Next week on Smackdown…Edge/Ray VS Matt/Cena…WTF? No mention of the attack from Edge. Riiiight.

Then we just had a 4-way match for the #1 shot! YES! Edge was attacked! YES! Edge is back as an underdog! NO! Edge lost! While I TOTALLY love Angle and think he’s the best possible person there, I’ve got this damn thing nagging at me where I just want to see Edge take the place of Bret Hart in those matches where you just are on the edge of your seat WONDERING if he’ll win the match! Hell, I was like that during the end of that one with Angle!

Now Edge will feud with Albert…why? Because Vince is not paying attention to ratings or attendance obviously. I just DON’T understand. He had ideas, he was smart…but now he’s arrogant. He won’t listen to others ideas and give them a chance. He won’t listen to the fans because he THINKS he knows what they want. No he doesn’t. Not anymore. Maybe he will again down the road…but for now, he’s blowing it.

Matt Hardy wrote a column and he’s up there in my top 3 wrestlers now as it goes Angle/Edge/Hardy…though he wanted to be the one to take out Ray…WHY NOT? Because Albert is bigger? WTF? He’s HAIRY! That’s his gimmick! He’s nothing! This is NOT a shot at the performer, but a shot at what he’s doing! Nothing. He’s a big hairy man who comes out and beats up people. That’s no good nowadays! I don’t want to pay for that!

Matt Hardy has CONSTANTLY been jobbed ESPECIALLY to Rikishi who should go off of Smackdown and go to Velocity or something because he’s BORING now. His angle and wrestling style is stale. He can NOT rap at all! What was that on Smackdown!? Cena has a cool gimmick, so let’s kill it with RIKISHI! How many chances has he had? He turned on Rock, he hit Austin with a car, he’s a rapper, he’s been in Too Cool…come ON, those are just the past few years! Enough.

Matt’s been screwed and his gimmick, while fresh and original and awesome, is being tarnished because he can’t move UP! It’s not his TIME.

That’s what you hear a lot. It’s not their time yet. Whose time is it? Triple H’s? Don’t get me started. NOBODY on RAW can fight for the title seriously anymore so why try? Just give him the title and let him keep it forever since he’s already sucked every other singles title on the show into it. Whatever.

The WWE is just missing those chances to push younger talent. Sure they have a lot of time, and sure over time people will move up but if you’re a hockey team and your team SUCKS, you’re going to trade, change things around and work until you find something that clicks right? Well that’s what Vince should do now. He can’t get WORSE. He’s got a core base of at least 3 million people who WILL tune in to watch wrestling each week. (Come on, if you’re still watching it after all the CRAP that was on RAW with Kane/dead bodies, then you’ll watch anything they put on. I’m in that group too!)

Vince should now fool around with things. Take chances! Drop Triple H down into feuds with lower people. Have Jericho/Booker T feud for the World title for a few months! WHY THE HELL NOT!??! Let Edge/Angle and the gang feud for the World title. START things! Have FUN with things! FOOL AROUND until something clicks.

Look at the drastic change “Attitude” had on wrestling. Now this was a BIG change! Vince fooled around with things and WHAM, Attitude was born. So fool around again, don’t stick with the stuff that brought you to this point and expect it to still be as good years later. We’re tired of the matches. They’re boring. The feuds, while some good, are mostly pointless without a gimmick attached!

I feel like I’m talking to Vince now with the last few paragraphs. All I’m saying is that wrestling would be better if there were some BIG changes out of nowhere. Try some new people out in the main event! Keep Jericho feuding with Booker and RVD and so on in the main event, drop Triple H down a bit! HAVE HIM LOSE! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD seriously…sure he’s a tough guy! Yeah he’s dedicated, but FECK he sure is selfish when it comes to things. No I don’t know the guy, but he puts NOBODY over unless he gets them back the week later.

Just give younger guys a chance to run with the ball and LET the big guys step out of the picture. No the Rock/Austin/Triple H of old won’t shine through…yet. This is simply because back when Rock became big he was given a CHANCE. He shone through. Angle already has it. Edge CAN have it, but he’s given lame feuds and short backstage segments that are sorry excuses for anything. Give him time and a shot. Just have fun with it and who knows, another era may shine through when it’s least expected.

Well that does it for this edition of Last Monday. Hope you enjoyed reading and feel free to send any feedback, opinions or thoughts to me by
