    Breaking The Walls Down

Hello all and welcome back to another edition of Breaking The Walls Down. What a great game played by my Eagles this weekend. Nothing like giving the game to the Colts. Anyway, enough of that, onto Bits and Pieces.

    Bits and Pieces

First, my apologies to anyone who has written to me. My Inbox has been flooded with junk mail. It is absolutely ridiculous. I am slowly but surely sifting through the mail. I apologize if I did not get to you yet, but I’m working my way there.

The quote of the week goes out to Jim Ross for his statement on RAW during the Jeff Hardy/Lance Storm match. Jim Ross stated, “Jeff Hardy trying to mount Lance Storm here.” Need I even comment?

Does anyone care about the Dawn Marie angle?

Batista has an excellent look. He definitely is showcasing his power moves, I only hope that he develops a little bit more on the offense. Otherwise, he has the potential to be huge, which is what they were saying down in OVW for the longest time.

I think that the Elimination Chamber may have a chance of being interesting. That is, of course, if the wrestlers are allowed to showcase their considerable talents. It will be interesting to see what kind of impact HBK has on the match.

    And now, onto the column.

All Have Signed . . . All But One

The above title, a cheap rip-off of Megadeath’s hit song Countdown to Extinction, rings true in light of the WWE’s latest acquisition. The WWE has signed Scott Steiner to a contract, which makes almost everyone that was available from WCW. Who’s left? Sting has supposedly retired, so that leaves only one big name people care about, Bill Goldberg.

I do believe that Bill Goldberg needs to be signed by the WWE. Why, because Scott Steiner is not the answer. He’s not going to do as much as they hope he is going to do. I believe it would have made more of an impact if Scott Steiner showed up unannounced like DDP did to totally catch everyone off guard. But, alas, I am going off track. Bill Goldberg is the last big “free agent” so to speak. And, in my opinion, it is a mistake by the WWE to not heavily pursue him.

My friends and I had a discussion about this very subject this past Friday night over a few beers. Some felt it would be a good move to sign Goldberg, some did not. I feel that in order for Goldberg to be used most effectively, he needs to have an archenemy. And, who better to do that than Stone Cold Steve Austin? Yes, yes, I know, lately it seems that all I say is that the WWE needs to work things out with Austin. Well, it’s the freakin’ truth people, whether you like to admit it or not. Austin is not the complete answer but he’s the BIGGEST part of the puzzle that is missing.

What needs to be done with this piece of the puzzle is to have it placed next to another big piece, Bill Goldberg’s piece to be exact. Steve Austin vs. Bill Goldberg has the potential for a HUGE payoff. And, what better event to have this payoff at than Wrestlemania? Wrestlemania has been somewhat lackluster the past few years with main events. This main event would be cataclysmic, if done properly.

And, sadly, that seems to be the downfall of the WWE lately. They have so many talented people and just when they start to show a glimmer of hope, they drop the ball. Austin vs. Goldberg can be done. This isn’t some fantasy match-up that could never happen. Austin technically still works for the WWE and Goldberg could be signed for the right price.

One of my friends, Jeff, put it best when he said something to the effect of “What does McMahon care the most about? Money. He’ll bring Austin back if it could be a huge money deal.” And, you know what, Jeff’s right, McMahon will bring Austin back if at all possible. I don’t think any doors for Austin are closed right now. All that needs to be done is for Austin to make the first step. Austin has to realize that the longer he is out, the more it hurts him. Austin isn’t 30 anymore. He’s a few years away from 40 and the age is catching up with him. Austin vs. Goldberg is enough to make McMahon’s palete wet with anticipation, and I know he’s thought of it and continues to think of it.

If McMahon is worried about the money, he can always make cuts in areas that aren’t paying very well. The fact remains that Goldberg has the potential to REALLY add a dimension to the storylines that the WWE doesn’t have right now. A storyline could revolve around Goldberg and Triple H too. Let’s not forget the altercation that happened between them a few years back.

The only thing I hope is that Goldberg has matured a bit. Goldberg was always a hothead and if that continues, he won’t make it in the WWE locker room. Guys like The Undertaker definitely would not appreciate actions that Goldberg has been known for. I’m assuming his behavior was like that because of the WCW management, which is not the same in the WWE. Goldberg’s actions have no excuse, but I believe that the WWE’s management will be able to keep him in check.

I’m also aware that Goldberg has said he would never work for the WWE. However, I’ve also read statements that Goldberg has said in the past few months that have indicated he would consider working for the WWE under the right conditions. I wonder what those conditions are and if McMahon is willing to give in to those conditions. Yet, as time goes by, McMahon may have no choice. In order to save the company, McMahon may have to swallow some of his pride in order to put his product before his ego.

Well, that will do it for this week. I hope all of you have a safe and happy week. And, as always, join me as I try to “educate people on the realness of the fakeness of professional wrestling”. ©

    Later,
    Chris Dailey
