Smackdown Notes: women's group hates it, ratings, and preview

WWE Smackdown received a grade of an "F" by the National Organization for Women or NOW recently. Their arguments that Network television present women as just being "young, thin, and white", and then went on to say, and I quote: "Network programming sends a distorted, often offensive image of women, girls and people of color brought to you through the point-of-view of white men and boys. Television remains very much a man's world, with women serving primarily as eye candy.". NOW argues that Network television caters to an "adolescent boy's fantasy world". WWE Smackdown, for last week, was UPN's top rated show, again. The show had approximately 5.6 million viewers. Keep in mind that Smackdown was going head to head with the World Series on FOX, game 5 I believe, which also contends for the same male demographic. Game 5 of the Giants vs. Angels had 15.8 million viewers.

Last week's Smackdown was tied for 85th with WB's "Smallville" among networks rated for prime time shows. 130 shows were rated.

Smackdown placed third in the 12-34 persons demographic (3.0 rating/9 share), but the big news is that Smackdown placed 1st among male teens with a 6.4 rating/20 share, which was its best score since February. Keep in mind, too, that FOX's World Series was competing heavily for this age group. This is good proof of which show is actually successful between RAW and Smackdown these days.
