They opened the show with the Kid Rock “Lonely Road” video package.

The action opened with Ernest “The Cat” Miller coming out to his old WCW music. He lost to Val Venis and the “money shot” finisher.

Next was Shelton Benjamin over Bull Buchanan. Followed by Albert over somebody whose name I didn’t catch but I believe was Larry Destiny from Border City Wrestling.

Moving on, we got tag team action with Jamie Knoble (with Nidia) and Crash Holly losing to the team of Funaki and Billy Kidman. Kidman got the 1-2-3 with the Shooting Star Press.

The Velocity open played and we got Chuck Palumbo (sporting dark hair again) over D-Von.

“Textbook” Tyson Dux (also from Border City Wrestling) put on a very solid comedy match with Chavo Guerrero Jr. Dux got in some decent offense and even managed to work in his always popular “dorky white guy dance” before losing to Chavo.

The Smackdown opener played. Edge defeated Chris Benoit with the spear following interference from Kurt Angle. Huge crowd response for Edge’s entrance.

Backstage we get to see Benoit crash the Halloween party looking for Angle. The Torrie Wilson video package played.

Backstage Paul Heyman tells Brock that he cannot beat the Big Show.

Big Show squashes Rikishi with a powerslam. Show takes the mic and talks and talks and talks. He says that he’ll do to Brock what he just did to Rikishi. He states that Brock cannot beat the Big Show, he cannot beat Paul Wight, and he cannot beat the Giant! The crowd was chanting “boring.”

Brock comes out and calls Show a “giant piece of s***” which the crowd begins to chant. Show threatens Brock some more and walks up the ramp.

    An Edge video package aired.

Torrie beats down Dawn Marie in a mud-pool match. Both ladies looked hot in their entrances, but the match was hard to see – outside of the 20 people seated next to the wading pool you could only see the match on the Titantron. Post-match Torrie shoved the ring announcer into the pool.

Backstage Tajiri is fighting off the affections of Mae Young and Moolah. Matt explains that Tajiri is about to get a “mattitude” adjustment. They both come to the ring. Matt gets the win with the Twist of Fate. A huge crowd pop for Matt during his entrance.

Backstage, Steph is called to meet her father in his office. A man in a Vince mask announces that Scott Steiner will be working on Raw. The mask is removed to reveal Eric Bischoff, who proceeds to lay a big old kiss on Steph – who seems to enjoy it. As good as she looked in her Halloween witches costume, I think I’d have done the same thing.

Diva video package airs. This is followed by the music video for Lillian’s new single.

Next up is Angle vs. Eddie Guerrero. A great match, marred by two run-ins. First from Chavo Jr. and then secondly by Benoit. All of the interference allows Eddie to hit the frog splash for the win.

Taz came to the ring and judged the Halloween costumes in the crowd. After some back and forth he declared the “Hogan” dude the winner. The crowd wanted the very hot “Trish” to win.

Backstage Angle smacked somebody around (I couldn’t see the Titantron during this segment – it sounded like he was smacking Brother Love around). Angle then tangles with Benoit.

The main event of the evening was Brock vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. Brock was accompanied to the ring by Paul E. Some good action with Rey getting in some credible looking desperation offence and Brock showing raw power. Big Show ran in. Rey tried to land the 619 on Show. Show caught him and literally threw Rey four rows back into the crowd. Show then beat down Brock. Paul E. left ringside and walked away.

Brock climbed back into the ring, and Show came back down the ramp and into the ring. The bell sounded and apparently we have a match? Brock throws Show out of the ring and Show walks back up the ramp.

Brock posed in the ring for a minute and then proceeded to leave. As he was walking up the ramp, some insane fan apparently thought he wanted a piece of Lesnar and tried to come over the wall. Security grabbed him up before he could get over the wall and carted him off.

    dark matches:

Val d. The Cat. the crowd was partially dead for this, but Cat got some good reactions.

    Shelton Benjamin d. Bull Buchanan

Albert d. Mark Moraluche. Albert was great here talking about how he's sexy and saying "Jealousy will get you nowhere."

Funaki/Kidman d. Noble/Crash when Kidman pinned Crash with the Shooting Star Press after Nidia interfered.

    intro for Velocity

    Chuck d. D-Von

Chavo d. Textbook. I actually didn't catch Textbook's name, but that was what was written on his tights. Textbook did some really bad dancing before and throughout the match.

I have a feeling a some dark matches will show up on Velocity.

    intro for SmackDown!

there was a party backstage with everyone dressed up.

    Edge d. Benoit

    Big Show d. Rikishi

Torrie d. Dawn Marie in a "Trick or treat" match. it was a liquid in a pool match in which Torrie, dressed as Xena, popped out quite a few times. they kept it short.

Mae Young and Moolah were there hitting on Tajiri

Matt Hardy d. Tajiri. the crowd was partially dead for this match.

Vince is in Steph's office. turns out that Bischoff is in a Vince mask. he says that Steiner is coming to Raw, takes off the mask, and kisses Steph.

a video for Lilian Garcia's "Shout" aired.

Eddie d. Angle after Benoit and Chavo interfered.

Brother Love was back stage at the party. Angle and Benoit brawled around the room for a bit.

Rey n/c Lesnar. Show came down and threw Rey into the crowd then chokeslammed Lesnar through the announce table. a really loud Goldberg chant ensued.

after the show, Show came back down so Lesnar could beat on him. Lesnar then posed, walked up the ramp, shoved Paul E., and took the strap from him.

I was at the Smackdown! tapings at the Van Andel Arena, in Grand Rapids, MI last night. The crowd was pretty dead all night despite some decent matches. However, the crowd did come in pretty pissed off. Ticket sales appeared to be terrible so they had to move everyone from the side behind the camera to the other side to appear to be full. People were forced to wait in a line that was taking over an hour to be relocated. Needless to say, people were not pleased to be moved from their lower bowl seats to upper bowl, just so the wwe can appear like they sold tickets.

Velocity was met with little to no response. There were really only three things between the dark matches and velocity that garnered any type of response:
    1. albert: had a promo about how sexy he was and his man fur (nice shave your back chant started)
    2. some young wrestler with "textbook" on his tights, dancing like a rooster got some laughs and cheers.
    3. tag team match between jamie noble & crash vs. billy kidman and funaki. pretty dead through out most of it until the end, and got rather loud for the shooting star press at the end.

Smackdown! itself was pretty good, but again the crowd was dead for just about everything. Edge and Benoit came out to a nice pop, but then the crowd went back to sitting on their hands. Good match overall, but a nice pop at the end for a kurt angle run in.

just about everyone was getting a good pop for their entrance, but the crowd died soonafter for pretty much every match. Another reason the fans were pissed off, they had a trick or treat match, but it was on the side they moved the fans from!!! so now they had torrie wilson and dawn marie in a kiddie pool filled with chocolate milk (or whatever) but no one could see it, cuz it was behind the stupid stage.

big show manhandled rikishi in a thankfully short match. big show picked up rikishi and carried him around on one shoulder, now that's impressive. he followed it up with one of the most boring promos i have ever heard, and i tend to be a fan of the giant.

angle and eddie guerrero came out to a nice pop, and shockingly, the crowd then went quiet. really good match put on by these two, despite the crowd, and a nice run in through the crowd by benoit.

main event was rey mysterio jr. vs brock lesnar with brock just tossing him around like a rag doll, with rey rey getting in very little offense. big show then came down and caught mysterio in a 619 and gorilla pressed him and threw him into the crowd 5 rows deep (just like hogan did to rocky in rocky III). the show ended (i think) with big show destroying lesnar and choke slamming him through the announce table and then taunting him. after the cameras were off (again, i think. couldn't quite tell for sure) show came back and lesnar got the better of him and clotheslined him over the top rope. show left and lesnar was leaving the ring when some dumbass fan tried to jump the barrier and get after him, and was then mauled by security. lesnar made his way up the ramp and posed a bit. heyman came back out (left when show was there) and lesnar took the belt from him and then crushed heyman with it. he posed a little more and then left the stage. lights went on, end of show.

overall, i had a good time there, and i'll be curious to see what was edited out, but the crowd was dead all night despite some good wrestling.
