    Breaking The Walls Down

Hello all and welcome back to another edition of Breaking The Walls Down. I’m very angry, so let’s get right to it and skip Bits and Pieces.

    WTF is this S*&T?

This is what it has come down to. This is what they are now feeding us. This is what they think will win our viewership. This is one of the WWE’s answers. My question to you is WTF is this S*&T? I mean, I’m genuinely someone who accepts a lot and can see the positives in something. But, I in no way shape or form see anything positive coming out of this necro angle. I don’t care, I don’t care, I don’t care.

I’ve sat through a lot of crap the WWE has shoved down my throat. And, you know what, I’ve endured it all thinking that at least they’re trying. I’m not upset that this necro angle is going on, I could care less. But, what I do care about is the hopeless outreach the WWE is doing with this angle. They have no clue where to take it. Kane has been accused of being a murder. He’s been accused of drunk driving. And now he’s been accused of being a necro. My question to you, the readers of this column and the viewers of WWE programming, is why should we care?

Where is this angle going to take us? Does the WWE see this as an angle that will entice a slow buildup of a following to their product? If this is the case, the sheer ineptitude of the person behind this is clear. I volunteer my services right now to write for the WWE. I know I can put up more palpable storylines than this. And, I know who I would petition to bring back, too: Stone Cold Steve Austin. The WWE is suffering horrendously right now without him and that fact comes as a hard slap to the face every time a WWE television show is aired.

I sat through a so-so PPV on Sunday and that rating is being generous. I don’t generally complain a lot, but this is ridiculous. The last two matches on the PPV saved the card from being below average. Triple H vs. Kane was awkward and hard to watch. They weren’t telling me a story. They weren’t doing anything but putting me and everyone else in the room to sleep. Triple H has definitely lost a step since his injury and it has been showing lately in his matches. Normally I am a huge proponent of Triple H and Kane, but their match was short of putrid. The run in by Flair was both predictable and ho-hum.

Anyone who has watched the WWE product for the past couple of months has seen the complete lack of spark or energy necessary in the storylines. I’m not sure if it’s the storywriters themselves, the McMahons, or a combination of them both. Creativity and ingenuity has been sorely lacking lately. True, the better product is Smackdown!, but that show doesn’t have anything to cheer about right now. It became clear to me after the PPV just how bad the WWE product is hurting overall. Anyone in the realm of business knows that a company is due for its ups and its downs, but by the looks of things, the WWE is happy with nothing but shock television that is not unlike that of Vince Russo. I realize Russo is no longer with the company, but either he has rubbed off on the WWE or he is secretly working for them, because most of these storylines have Russo’s stink on them.

I find myself caring less and less about the overall product of the WWE. I hate to sound like every other disgruntled fan, but nothing on that show makes me look forward to watching the next week. The most excited I’ve been lately was during Tommy Dreamer’s hardcore title run, as those matches were entertaining to watch. I couldn’t really see a storyline there, and I guess that’s why the title was eventually unified with the now defunct Intercontinental Title.

Speaking of the defunct Intercontinental Title, Triple H has gained too much power backstage. His influence is hurting the very business he claims to love. Now, I’m not questioning his work ethic, because he busts his butt every time he is out there. What I am questioning is his willingness to share his spot at the top, which IS necessary to do. Matt, one of my good friends, put it best at the PPV after Triple H pinned Kane. Matt said, “Ahh, can the glass ceiling get any thicker?” And, you know what folks, his satirical comment couldn’t have hit the nail on the head any better. Also, keeping in mind what the current state is in the WWE, that glass ceiling better be removed for the betterment of the business, or we’re going to be treated to more necro-like angles than we can take. Think about it, maybe the shock value has worn off, maybe it’s time the WWE entertains us with wrestling that keeps the crowd on its feet. Maybe it’s time the WWE realizes that its current state of affairs is more sorry than they care to recognize. Maybe the WWE should address the real problems instead of blaming easy scapegoats.

The problem is evident every time I turn on WWE programming. My question to you, WWE, is how are you going to fix it, with more seemingly last-minute shock value storylines, or are you going to renovate the product, make it new, make it entertaining again? The ball is in your court, too bad most of the audience is either sleeping or already left. What are you going to do about it?

Well, that will do it for this week. I hope all of you have a safe and happy week. And, as always, join me as I try to “educate people on the realness of the fakeness of professional wrestling”. ©
