Makin The Tag: The Test - Val Venis Connection

Welcome to a brand new edition of Makin The Tag. As some of you may remember, I am Krueges and it has been quite some time since one of my columns has graced the main page at LoP, but much like Jason Voorhees you just can’t keep me down. But enough with the introduction, it’s time to Make The Tag!

The Test - Val Venis Connection

By now I am sure you have heard all about Test and the problems that he is supposedly having with WWE management recently. Test’s refusal to cut his hair or to change his ring attire may very well put his WWE career and future in question according to the latest reports. The question is this: is Test being noncompliant for no good reason or is there a “phantom menace” at work here?

A couple of years ago, Val Venis underwent a few changes in his appearance. He traded his long hair for a shorter, trendier hair cut and he also got some new ring attire (which had many people calling him “Mr. Wrestling”). Prior to making these changes, reports were circulating that management believed he could be a main event caliber talent and could easily reach that level, but he needed to make a few changes first.

However, after making a few simple changes to his appearance Val’s career went down faster than an intern in the Oval Office. The pops he received became harder to find than a non-alcoholic drink at Ted Kennedy’s house. In fact, the last time I saw his career, it was on the back of a milk carton. He didn’t even get his 15 minutes of fame. Hell, he can’t even get three minutes with Bischoff!

Anyways….. Management’s promises to push Val to the moon after his little transformation fell through because much like Sampson, Val lost his strength and appeal the moment his hair was cut. Then, much like Puff Daddy, he changed his ring name and that didn’t work either. And of course, how can I forget everyone’s favorite stable, Right To Censor. The Right to Censor gimmick was to wrestling as the Spice Girls was to music. To this day, I firmly believe that the top guys in the company had a hand in what happened to Val in order to insure that he didn’t rise in the company. By sabotaging his career, they conveniently strengthened their own.

Perhaps Test is a student of history and has learned from the past by watching and taking note of what happened to Val’s career. Much like Val once did, Test has the potential to be a major player in the company. His name and face are easily recognizable to wrestling fans. We all know who he is. So why is it that he needs to change his appearance to have a more modern look? He doesn’t look retro. He looks very much like a wrestler of today. I just don’t get it.

If he did cut his hair short and changed his tights, no one would even recognize him.

I simply cannot come up with one reasonable explanation as to why he should cut his hair. He already has a marketable look. If he cuts his hair, the company is sure to bring The Rock back just so he can start with his “somebody got a haircut” bit. Oh, but wait. Didn’t Undertaker get a haircut? Yes he did, but he also sells less than Jason Voorhees. But only Taker is allowed to no sell. But that is another story for another time.

I think we can all agree that there is some “phantom menace” at work here pulling the strings much like in Star Wars Episode 1. This power is no Sith, he is even worse. He is The Game. There is no doubt in my heavily medicated mind that Triple H is the one that is really calling the shots here. Some may believe he is just trying to be helpful but it’s obvious that he is nothing but a wolf in sheep’s clothing. This egomaniac for the new millennium, the same man who believed that the intercontinental belt was beneath him, is the one pulling management’s strings. Not only is he up in Vince’s daughter, but he is also up in management for the exact same reason: he will whore himself out at all costs in order to insure that he remains on top regardless of what his “leadership” is doing to the company.

One minute the Game is giving lectures to everyone about stepping it up, and the next he is making sure that no one else can. Why isn’t he being asked to get a hair cut? It’s quite simple folks, Triple H has found that there is no better way to protect his position in the company by sabotaging Test’s career by making an example out of him.

Whether you like Test or not, you have to respect him for not letting management push him around. His refusal could very well be the end of his career in the WWE, but I do respect him for standing up to those who are making these absurd and ridiculous demands that are bound to hurt his career far more than it will help. If he would have a change of heart and succumb to those changes, his career will very quickly mirror that of what happened to Val Venis.

Thanks for reading. If you have any comments on the Test situation, then by all means send them in. I’ll try to post as many as I can in the next edition. Speaking of the next edition, be prepared for anything and everything when I call out Jerry “The King” Lawler for some greedy underhanded tactics that some of you may not be aware that he is doing. It’s sure to turn some heads.
