Special Follow Up to "Where do we go from here?"
Hello again everyone and WELCOME BACK to Corner to Corner. I know, normally, I'm here once a week but this week must be an exception. So let's get right to it!
Where do we go? Who do we talk to?
It's always a pleasure to recieve feedback from you, but this week has been quite an event. It was reassuring to see you turn out in droves to tell me off or agree with me. By the way, thanks for the condolences to those who sent them. People have been emailing me all week with comments on whether or not concentrating on the positive movements by the WWE is a good move. I suppose I take a more positive step so that I can give you an option. It seems today that by standing out and just being negative will only draw more negativity. I don't believe that being negative is going to fix the issues.
Some of you have asked if I'm trying to point to Mr. Tito as the cause for the negativity. I wanted to take a public issue with that. I respect and enjoy Tito's column each week. While I don't agree a lot of the time, that has no bearing on what I think of him. Tito does the same thing I do. He gives his opinion, and even though it comes off on an angry rant at times, he's been around long enough to earn those rants and I don't begrudge them. That does not mean I have to agree with them, however.
I do have a formal response for the feedback I've recieved and being that this is only two days from my column being posted, I feel this is an important time to give it.
For anyone to say that it's time to turn the WWE off and just find something else to do, well I believe that's a premature decision. We're definately witnessing a down time. There is no argument To say that it's time to turn around and give up is just an extreme motion. I think we're all angry at how it's gotten but we're more frustrated that we're so limited in our options to improve it.
In my column, I ask for the fans to not ignore the bad but to find the good and work from there. If you're so disgruntled with this business, nobody REQUIRES you to watch. You are totally entitled to your opinions.
I claim that while Tito makes good points, he's being a bit drastic with his judgement calls. I further state that the business, while in a very crappy time, is not falling apart. If you think this is bad, I wonder where you were in 1992. Sure there was no T&A, but then again who would have known because so few people were watching WWF/WWE. WCW's storylines were entertaining but let's face it, the WWE had a more creative squad even back then.
To come out and claim that a business, genre, or even promotion IE WWE is in deep trouble without providing something more substantial than a ratings drop of .3, a stock quote that provides adequate information on it's(being the promotion's) market, or even some kind of commentary from the McMahons themselves, is quite premature indeed. I appreciate the fact that fans want something better, but to do that, it's going to take a lot more feed back than saying, SUCH AND SUCH SUCKS. To get a change made, I strongly believe that the feedback has to be detailed and both positive and negative.
You cannot possibly expect change to be made when you write to WWE and say: "Fire the Big Show, he's a lard ass."
It takes so much more than that, and I would rather push for the fans to make their voices heard with some amount of respect and credibility. The problem today is not The Rock, the problem is the fans do not know how to get their voices heard effectively. That's MY job. That's TITO's job. It's our jobs to provide you and the rest of the fans with our input and to do so responsibly so that when you form your opinion on this business you do so with some degree of information and confidence. This business is littered with irresponsible journalism and I think that's part of the problem. The WWE is so worried about seeing their news get spattered all over the net, they've closed themselves off to outside sources for promotion and positive feedback. Our only outlet now, is their fan services department.
We are now forced to make the moves for them. Telling them in letters and calls what needs work and what is working. Do you know how many people ARE NOT calling them? MY gut tells me while WWE probably gets their fair share, the fans that are unsure how to voice their opinions FAR OUTWEIGH those who are calling. So, who's calling?
Well guess what, I have. I call them. Why? Because if I am going to sit here and tell people to do something that will help this business, I'm going to make damn sure these voices get heard. Am I any different than you or any other fan? Hell no. I'm the same as any of you.
Thank you AGAIN for taking the time to make educated responses to Corner to Corner. These are the responses I truly enjoy as even if the people are angry at me, they at least took the time to write. That, to quote DDP, is a GOOD THING. I hope that you don't give up on wrestling and that you try your best to stick it out as long as you can, because my feeling is that things will get better if we work towards getting our voices heard.
I do hope this answers the questions and comments and as always, I do look forward to any further feedback. I merely felt tonight that some type of response to your comments was necessary. Thanks again!
