I'm doing this with my brother-in-law, Alan Wright. Hopefully between the two of us we'll get all the details right. The WWE promo video started and the crowd was popping huge just for that so you could tell it was going to be a good crowd for the night. First match was a dark match between Doug Basham (who I believe is currently in OVW) and Val Venis. Basham got a lot of heat for giving the "up yours" to the crowd, Val, and the referee... who gave it back to him. Val got a really good pop. Match was decent at best. Val won with a modified figure four that Basham tagged out to. Second dark match was Horace Hogan and Bull Buchanon -vs- Mark Henry and Mark Jindrak... Mark Henry got a very good ovation. Bull and Horace both looked in better shape than the last time either was on television. Can't remember how the match ended, but I believe it was Henry pinning Hogan. Velocity tapings began here.. Hurricane Helms pulled out his first of two matches for the night by pinning Crash Holly. I tried to get an Elroy chant started, but to no avail. Helms was way over with the crowd, one of the biggest pops of the night. Albert came out to a fairly decent heel reaction. Funaki came out and did his #1 Smackdown announcer schtick and mentioned the "shave your back" comments Albert got last week. This, of course, prompted several "shave your back" chants throughout the match which Albert played up to very well. Funaki did some funny chest hair/back hair pulling routines during the match and picked up a victory that surprised the crowd. Albert came back and attacked Fuanki twice after the match. Sore loser. First not so great match of the night was Randy Orton and Shannon Moore. Match wasn't THAT bad the crowd just really wasn't into it much except for a few of Shannon's spots. Orton picked up the win. Kidman was up next to a pretty good reaction and Tajiri came out to face him. Tajiri's facial expressions are just classic, he might not have mic skills but he makes up for it with his body language. But, I'm a Tajiri mark so who knows? Kidman attempted the SSP but missed, Tajiri nailed two nasty head kicks and picked up the pinfall. Velocity ended here. Enter the Smackdown tapings. First match was a mixed tag between Torrie Wilson and Rey Mysterio who took on Jamie Noble and Nidia. Funniest spot was when Torrie die the bronco buster to Nidia and then Noble took the spot and begged Torrie to do it to him too. She started massaging her breasts and acting like she was gonna do it when Rey Rey leapfrogged her and pulled it off himself. Same stuff they pulled off at the houseshow in Montana last night, but still funny to see it live. Anyhow, Wilson and Mysterio (who was majorly over) won. Biggest pop was Mysterio's 619 which he pulled off here in the 719. Billy, Chuck, and Steph came out and Stephanie accepted Bischoff's challenge from Monday night, though she said they'd discuss the stipulations in their "live satellite chat" later that night. Kurt Angle came out and interrupted their skit and made a lot of his "gay remark" mistakes which got a good crowd reaction. Kurt challenged half of Chuck & Suck to a match but Stephanie said they would only wrestle as a tag team. Kurt agreed and said they could pick his partner... so they pick his upcoming opponent for this weekend... the rabid wolverine, Chris Benoit. Stephanie and Billy were shaking their asses as they went up the ramp to the back, pretty funny and I don't think it will be on camera. Crowd killer of the night... Lesnar and John Cena in a rest hold snoozefest, the crowd wasn't quite the same for the rest of the night after this match. Lesnar wins with an F5 and not a lot of offense from Cena. Also at some point in the night Heyman mentioned that Colorado Springs PD had been hired as Lesnar's personal security for the night, but they told him that was for the back and they wouldn't come out to ringside. Lesnar hurried to the back after his match. It was about here that Stephanie and Bischoff had their "live satellite chat" with Bischoff in Los Angeles (though it is my belief he was somewhere in the building... can't see him going from Denver last night to LA instead of 70 miles south to The Springs... seems cheaper that way). They got a few good jabs in at each other, some HLA references, and Stephanie said that if Rosie and Jamal do win and she has to perform HLA... she might even enjoy it. HUGE, HUGE, and did I say HUGE? pops. Helms comes out for his second match of the night and loses in a decent match to Matt Hardy's twist of fate after low blowing Helms when the referee's back was turned. The Flying Guerrero's beat Edge and Rikishi when Chavo pins Edge. Edge got a HUGE pop... it's amazing the reaction he gets now, he was popular but now he's simply OVER. Chuck & Suck take out Benoit/Angle... this was a surprisingly good match as Chuck and Billy showed that they can hang in there with the A list singles talent. After the match Angle attacks Benoit with an Olympic Slam (the Olympic training center is here in Colorado Springs, just for information's sake) and an ankle lock. Benoit reversed and threw on the crippler cross face before heading to the back. Taker shows up in the building and comes out to the ring. Colorado Springs apparently loves the Undertaker as the crowd was all up on his jock tonight. Lesnar comes out with Heyman half heartedly trying to talk him out of it. Lesnar enters the ring and does the shoulder blocks into the corner and backs up mouthing off to Taker. Taker grabs him around the throat, reverses and lays a few heavy punches into Lesnar. Matt Hardy comes from the back and jumps on Taker who tosses him like a sack of potatoes to the mat. Lesnar backs out of the ring, Hardy attacks again and gets a chokeslam for his efforts. Taker to the back after Lesnar who is being taken away by his police escort. I think this is where the cameras went off the air, but I'm not sure. Back in the ring Matt is wearing Undertaker's beanie and talking about how Undertaker has now run away from him twice. Of course... Taker comes back. He steps into the ring and Matt offers Undertaker his hat back by tossing it to him, Taker ignores it and walks towards him. Matt goes through a list of people who couldn't beat Undertaker (Jake Roberts, Kamala, Giant Gonzalez (et tu El Gigante), fake Undertaker (et tu Brian Lee)... and JEFF HARDY. Taker picks up his hat and asks "were you wearing my hat"? Matt says yes. Taker asks if he can read what the hat says to which Matt replies, "Dead". Taker says, "Yeah, it says dead... and that's what you are." Chokeslam. Huge pops. Last Ride chant breaks out and Taker nails a huge last ride on Matt. Taker leaves to huge pops and throws a lot of love back at the crowd. Haven't seen Taker that over in awhile. SIDE NOTES: Most of the crowd was hot for the majority of the night, oddly enough... even for the dark matches. I moved here from Anaheim, CA last year which always has extremely hot crowds and Colorado Springs held their own for an arena that's maybe half the size. You could tell a lot of the wrestlers appreciated the reactions they were getting from us. Matt Hardy got tons of "you suck" and "we want Jeff" chants every time he showed up. When Rikishi runs, jumps, leaps into a corner... you can feel it. I was 14 rows back and could feel the vibrations, one hell of a big boy. Stephanie got huge pops, her and Billy were shaking their asses old school Mr. Ass style as the three of them left the ring and headed up the ramp. Two minor scuffles, no flashers. Oh yeah... they were still selling tickets 2 hours before the show, but it was a definite sellout. Biggest Pops: 1. Taker 2. Edge/Rey Mysterio (tie) 3. Stephanie 4. Any Mention of Hot Lesbian Action 5. Mark Henry/Val Venis (tie) Biggest Heat: 1. Kurt Angle (by far) 2. Eric Bischoff (when not discussing HLA) 3. Brock Lesnar/John Cena for the most boring match of the year 4. Prince Albert (LOUD "shave your back" chants) 5. Doug Basham?
The following report was written and sent in by by Matt Boone. Audio clips from inside the arena of all the promos and entrance can be listened to by clicking here! Pre-Taped Segment: Undertaker was chasing Brock Lesnar into a car and police ended up restraining him, a continued skit from last week's SmackDown! where Heyman chased Undertaker's pregnant wife, Sara, around the arena. Pre-Taped Segment: Eric Bischoff was shown backstage in a locker room that said "RAW" on the door. A woman approached him and either told him to leave the building, or that Stephanie McMahon wants to speak with him in the ring - Ryan didn't catch which one but was told both by different people who did. Rey Mysterio & Torrie Wilson vs. Jamie Noble & Nidia: Rey Mysterio and Torrie Wilson defeated Jamie Noble and Nidia in a mixed tag team match. Torrie hit a bronco buster on Nidia, Mysterio followed up with a bronco buster of his own to Nidia. Mysterio won with his usual springboard hurricanrana on Noble. Winners: Rey Mysterio & Torrie Wilson Backstage Segment: Stephanie McMahon backstage segment talking about SmackDown! has been bad lately, told D-Von that she wants him to prove to her that SmackDown! is the better show tonight. Backstage Segment: Extra security has been hired by Paul Heyman to protect Brock Lesnar tonight as Undertaker is on a rampage looking for him. Undertaker's wife apparently went into labor this morning. In-Ring Segment: Long segment featuring Billy and Chuck, lot of jokes about being gay and not being gay. Kurt Angle interupts, more jokes about gays. Kurt Angle eventually gets angry and challenges Billy or Chuck to a match tonight. Stephanie interupts and says it'll be Kurt Angle and a partner vs. both Billy and Chuck. Angle agrees and allows her to pick his parter for him, which will be none other than his opponent at Unforgiven, Chris Benoit. Kurt Angle made some more jokes about gays, and that just about did it for that segment. So Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit vs. Billy and Chuck, likely the main event, later tonight. Random Segments: A new Undertaker "desire" video played, which we recorded the audio for the entire time, as well as a backstage segment with Eddie Guerrero talking to Chavo. You can listen to those by clicking the link at the bottom. He told him Edge has disrespected him for the last time and later tonight he'll pay in a tag team match featuring Eddie Guerrero and Chavo Guerrero vs. Edge and Rikishi. Eddie & Chavo Guerrero vs. Edge & Rikishi Eddie and Chavo defeated Edge and Rikishi when Chavo rolled up Edge. After the match Eddie knocked out Edge with a chair, busted him open, got on top of him and cut a promo. Basically hyping their match for Unforgiven which is now confirmed. He then blew him a kiss before leaving. Winners: Eddie & Chavo Guerrero Backstage Segment: Live via satelitte Bischoff is shown preparing for a live discussion with Stephanie, who will be in the ring. Live Satelitte/In-Ring Segment: Probably the best update as far as audio goes for the entire night. We got the entire debate between Eric Bischoff, who was live via satelitte and Stephanie McMahon who was in the ring. They pretty much traded words back and forth about who will have to do what - Bischoff, kiss Stephanie's ass, Stephanie - perform hot lesbian action. Crowd got into HLA chants throughout the entire segment. We got the entire segment perfectly recorded from inside the arena and you can listen to the entire segment via audio by clicking the link at the bottom. Matt Hardy vs. Hurricane: Matt Hardy defeated Hurricane Helms. Before the match Matt cut a semi-heel promo on Colorado. Said fans here have 70s hairstyles and goofy clothes, interupted by Hurricane, match starts. Match ends when Matt goes for a twiste of fate, Hurricane reverses, Matt low-blows him and hits the twiste of fate for the 1-2-3. Winner: Matt Hardy Backstage Segment: Next up is a backstage segment with Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman. They were about to go out to the parking lot but decided not to because they overheard Undertaker was out there waiting for him. They said that they can wait all night with their extra security, and Undertaker will have to come to them. New Desire Video: New Trish Stratus desire video plays. Song by Sheryl Crow, Soak up the Sun to a lot of shots of Trish in bikinis and things like that. Trish did the audio voice-overs like every other Desire video. Coming Up Next: Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit both make their entrances, followed by Billy and Chuck. The tag-team match is up next. Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit vs. Billy & Chuck Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit defeated Billy and Chuck. Angle and Benoit brawled a bit afterwards. Winners: Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit Main-Event Segment: Then we go to the final segment with Undertaker and Brock Lesnar. 'Taker gets in the ring, calls out Lesnar, eventually Brock comes. Heyman tries stopping him the entire way down the ramp, only for Brock to turn around and deck Heyman to charge the ring. Lesnar and 'Taker brawl for a bit before Matt Hardy interferes. Lesnar and Heyman high-tail it to the back while 'Taker chokeslams Matt Hardy. Undertaker is shown running to the back where a whole group of security guards surround Lesnar and Heyman. Heyman tells Undertaker not to worry about his wife, she's in good hands. WrestleZoneRadio.com - Audio Clips From SmackDown! Tapings
