Hogan possibly off WWE television for a while, Smackdown, more

Hulk Hogan was NOT at the Smackdown tapings whatsoever last night, and it appears that he might not be on WWE programming anytime soon. It's said that "financial concerns" are the reasons for Hogan not being there, due to the possible dispute between himself and Vince McMahon.

It's said that Vince McMahon viewed the big Melbourne show as "just another houseshow", despite its rather large payoff, one that Hulk Hogan missed out on. Note, though, that the WWE's recent revenues have been down overall, and this may have been a way to cut costs or it could have been punishment for Hogan asking for more compensation ($$$) for going to Australia.

And of course, this situation gets worse with the WWE making Hulk Hogan out to be a "broken down old man" at the Melbourne press conference, which angered him, despite all that he's done for the WWE this year, like not causing any backstage problems and actually putting over or working with younger talent. He's considered a joy to work with in 2002.

The angle of Brock Lesnar taking out Hogan was run to keep Hogan off television for a while, obviously, for reasons stated above.

Out of 140 prime time shows rated last week, WWE Smackdown was ranked #80 against mostly reruns and with its lowest rating in the show's history.

This Variety Article confirms that the recent WWE Smackdown rating was the lowest rated show in its history on UPN. It also agrees with the notion, though, that it was lower due to being pre-empted in both New York City and Los Angeles.

Hip Interactive Corporation, Canada's leading provider of PC and video games, released their 1st Quarter results, and for 2002, Wrestlemania X-8 for the Game Cube is their 3rd best selling video game, behind Stuntman and Grand Theft Auto 3, two games who advertise on WWE shows ironically.
