I Know What You Did Last Monday- Chris Jericho VS The Internet
Submitted by Brendan Campbell on Monday, June 24, 2002 at 6:15 PM EST

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of "I Know What You Did Last Monday." Well King of The Ring just took place and it was filled with some great matches, and some not so great matches, some great finishes, and some great promos. Overall it was a pretty solid effort by the WWE and hopefully it’ll start to spice things up somewhat.

Before that just a few things, I had a topic about girls to talk about today but I took that out and will put it in next week as today I have an important issue I’d rather hear your thoughts on. On another note, if you’ve read my column before you know I write about girls and problems with relationships, or just relationships in general! I mean there is a good side to some things. I would also like you to write in to BrendanAngle@hotmail.com with topics that you’d read about if they were in a book. Like a chapter topic on women like "Just being friends" or "After the break up" and a small explanation about it. I’ll choose some of those to use on something I’m working on and some will be talked about in this column. Anything that has to do with girls, relationships, or anything along those lines.

As for entertainment, I caught a few movies lately in "Windtalkers" and "Minority Report" and while Windtalkers was your average action flick, Minority Report is definitely worth checking out! A great movie!

    Anyway, on to the column…

Slicing and Dicing King of The Ring

Like I said above, overall this was a pretty solid show! It had it’s rough points, but I left satisfied. My predictions had me up and down, as I went 4/4 which is pretty bad! Then again, I didn’t expect to see Hogan lose twice two PPV’s in a row, let alone cleanly at both! Kudos to him for that.

Anyway, match of the night was the show started in RVD VS Chris Jericho. There couldn’t have been more spots in this match and it was long! It went on for a good 20 minutes or so and it was non-stop action! The finishes at the end were incredible as I had Jericho to win it all, but that didn’t end up happening. Either way, great match and so far definitely one of the top 3 matches of the year, if not the top.

The rest of the KOTR tourny was solid as well, as even Test and Brock had a pretty good bout for an easy to predict finish! It was good along with the last match between RVD and Brock. I remember when the whole tourny used to be on the PPV, or at least 3 rounds. Those were crazy! Tonight, though I’m sure it’s hell as it is (especially after a 20 minute match) it just didn’t have the feel like they’d had a long road to get to the finals…though the three tourny matches were all VERY solid matches that kept the crowd as pumped as they could.

Like I said with Hogan VS Angle, I was in shock! The match was a good match, and Kurt showed why he’s still the future of the company. The finish I thought was DEFINITELY coming when Angle ran back in and clocked himself with the chair, but NO! He moved from the leg drop and locked in the Ankle lock! That was GREAT! Major marking going on there but it’s THOSE finishes, and shocks that keep me watching as I honestly didn’t expect to see Angle walk out victor in this match!

The whole promo between the Rock, Goldust and Booker T had the sports bar I was at on the floor howling. The Rock is great in his promo’s when he’s tearing into people as a person, and not just using his single lines that he sets them up with. The whole "quit touching yourself" and "You freak!" Are just great! And the part where Rock did his whole "Pie eating, jobroni beating" bit, then Booker did the whole "5 time WCW champion" bit, then Goldust just said one line and backed up because he had nothing…genius! I loved that whole scene!

Flair VS Eddie was as good as it could be story wise without any build up. Flair’s going at his last run and putting over some guys in the process…even though I predicted him to win this one because he really couldn’t LOSE the first match of his final run could he?

The main event was okay. It could have been worse, but it could have been better. I didn’t mind the Rock coming out and getting involved as I guess we’re depending now for the next PPV’s main event…

The Rock VS The Undertaker- This one I’d aim for if Triple H isn’t feeling 100% after his surgery. It won’t be a bad match, as it’ll be one of The Rock’s first matches back from his long break. As well, Rock knows how to bring a little extra mmph into matches he wrestles, and there’s always that energy that surrounds him no matter what.

    Or

The Rock VS Triple H VS The Undertaker- Which is the idea I got from the end of the match. If Triple H is up for it, we could see this one. Either way, I see The Rock walking into SummerSlam as the WWE Undisputed champion where he’ll face Brock.

Brock VS The Rock. While it’s still early in Brock’s career I guess you have to push this kind of character fast. Either way, will Rock pin Brock? I can see it and that’s my guess. Will it happen at SummerSlam? Not sure as it’d be pretty early to put the TITLE on Brock, but you never know!

In the end King of the Ring had a great start with Jericho/RVD, and a great set up finish with Triple H/Rock/Taker. We’ll see what happens tonight!

Now two things that have nothing to do with anything? I’m liking that new MIB song from Will Smith, the one without the girl as it has some attitude to it. Way to go Fresh Prince! And what about Avril Lavigne? Can you say…my new favourite female singer, oh and her songs are pretty good too!

    Jericho VS the Internet

One man…puts his body on the line to entertain millions world wide each week…

Millions and millions of smarks putting their two cents online about how wrestling could be made better and how crappy it and its matches have become…

One man going against millions…who will prevail?

    LIVE ON PPV!

Chris Jericho has finally updated his commentary. I’ve visited his site occasionally in the past few months to check and see if he’d update it as it hadn’t been since March. Well I came onto LOP today while updating my column and saw that he’d updated so I thought I’d check it out.

In his commentary he lashes out at the Internet and the smarks that are all over the place. I guess ‘technically’ I’m a smark. The term refers to those who place their opinions on the Internet saying how they could do things better, or how they felt about matches, good or bad. So that makes me a smark, though I’m going to try not to be hypocritical here I have to say one thing…

    I agree with him.

His commentary was aimed at people who were saying his match at KOTR was crappy, or one of the worst of his career, or even a boring match. This rightly pissed him off as he went out there for 20 minutes doing something he loves to entertain us, the people who pay to see him.

Sure this gives us the right to our opinions but at the same time he’s right when he said "What do (us smarks) want?" What do we want? EVERY time something happens, most of us seem to find the WORST little thing about it and dig on that until things just blow out of proportion. We can’t be happy with anything.

What more do we want from these men? The writers of the WWE aren’t ALWAYS writing the best storylines, but it happens. The wrestlers have off nights, but then again so do crowds. What more can we ask of them but to go out there and do what they did last night?

Chris Jericho went out there for 20 minutes and kicked some ass. His body beaten, all for us. Yes it’s his job. Yes, he was paid to do it. But while he does it for himself, we as the fans are who he does it for every week.

I saw a documentary on Chris Jericho a month or so ago, and these men do not live the greatest lives! I mean they aren’t sad, or edging by, but they aren’t pulling up everywhere in limo’s like we see on TV. The documentary showed Jericho driving to the next show RIGHT after finishing a RAW. He didn’t eat that night because no healthy places to eat were open that late. That’s their lives, and they do it because they love it, and they love to do it for us.

I’ll admit that I do shine a negative light on certain matches, or people at times. That’s my opinion at that time, but for the most part (from other people on the staff, or those in the LOP Columnist Forumn) I’m known as the Positive one, or Positively Brendan Campbell. But that’s besides the point, I just like to give things benefit of the doubt and see how they’ll turn out!

When a great match goes on, I’ll be the first to give it the thumbs up. If the match is boring, it isn’t entirely the wrestlers fault as there isn’t always the right set-up or time for a great match. There are times when you can tell the wrestlers aren’t giving it their all, but those are few and far between for men who do this almost every night to themselves so we’ll go home happy.

If you’ve read my past columns you’ll see that I’ve talked about it before. About how it seems those who express their views on the Internet are never happy, some examples of complaints and then what happens after are…

    1. "Make Chris Jericho champ!!"- Jericho wins the Undisputed title beating The Rock AND Steve Austin in one night. Incredible right?! No.

Response from the Internet: ‘Jericho is a dull champion.’- ‘Jericho needs more build up and can’t cut it with the big boys’- ‘Get the title off of Jericho FAST!’

    2. "We need The Rock back on TV!" The Rock comes back from filming the Scorpion King and chooses the WWF over the Alliance and cuts some great promos and fills the face void left by Austin and Angle to everyone’s joy right? Wrong.

Response from the Internet: ‘The Rock is stale, his promos aren’t as good as before’- ‘Turn the Rock heel’- ‘Why is Rock always smiling now, he isn’t the same, next please’.

    3. Lance Storm needs to have some sort of gimmick! Lance Storm is given an entertaining gimmick on how the WWE is against Canadians! Storm is playing on this great, it gives his character charisma that so many complained about before and it gets him on TV more! Great! Not.

Response from the Internet: ‘Canada VS USA again?’- ‘This whole Canadian gimmick is overdone’- ‘Storm is just ripping off those before him, he can’t get charisma by himself’.

From the examples above you see that whatever we want, when we do eventually get it we just throw it back in their faces and complain some more. I think the Internet would be pretty eerie if I came on one night and EVERYTHING was positive and happy toward what was going on in the WWE…

I think Chris Jericho did the right thing, and handled it in the PERFECT fashion. MANY people will be upset with what he said, but those are the people he’s talking about. He basically used their own weapon against them, a taste of their own medicine and you better believe it’ll leave a bad taste in their mouths.

I take my hat off to Chris Jericho.

Without Steve (To the beat of Eminem’s "Without Me")

On a lighter note, last week I wrote up this song to go along with the whole Austin leaving situation. Hope you enjoy!

Guess who left, left again Austin left, tell a friend.
Guess who left, guess who left, guess who left, guess who left, guess who left, guess who left, guess who left...

Vince created a monster, cuz nobody wants to See Williams no more they want Austin and his beer liver
Well if you want Austin, then this is what I'll give ya
A little bit of what? mixed with some Stevewiser
Some two fours’s that sell my new Stone Cold Visor
Then a shock when I get shocked at the show
By the angles well I'm not going to cooperate
How dare they make me do something that they know I’ll hate!
    "What?!"
    Everyone else can start debating
Cuz I’m gone, pissed off, what’s the meaning of ‘jobbing’?
I know you got a job Mr. McMahon
Let me explain why my problem is complicated!
See the WWE won’t let me rule, or make me cool, they’re all a bunch of fools,
They tried to make me job to the next big thing,
but there’s no way he’s big enough to be me!
So come on Vince, Pucker on your lips Put some oil on your hips and some on your tits
And go wrestle cuz I’ve already gone home, take away my spotlight
    "Oh hell yeah!"

Now this would be a job for me
If everybody would just JOB to me
Cuz we need a little 3:16,
wrestling feels so empty without Steve

I said that this would be a job for me
If everybody would just JOB to me
Cuz we need a little 3:16,
wrestling feels so empty without Steve

My actions make kids feel rebellious
They’ll kick anyone’s ass just for the helluvit!
Now the WWE will be helpless,
Till I get my way, come back on a mission and yell "What?!"
I walked out, it wasn’t scary and it could start a rebellion, wrestlers leaving the airwaves,
Rebels so let me just wait and relax in the fact that soon everyone will be kissing my ass
Because I’m the master, it’s so lovely,
That I can do whatever I want and they’ll still ask for me.
    When I’m back (*Batman Noise*)
Fix your bent antenna, tune in and then I’m gonna enter into the ring while you‘re eating your dinner!.
The center of attention, the real ratings winner!
I’m interesting, the best thing in wrestling
Infesting in your TV screens and nesting saying "Cause I said so!"
Feel the wonder soon as someone mentions me
    Here’s my T-Shirt, although it’s not free,
A twenty, pay there, soon it’ll come to me!

Now this would be a job for me
If everybody would just JOB to me
Cuz we need a little 3:16,
wrestling feels so empty without Steve

I said that this would be a job for me
If everybody would just JOB to me
Cuz we need a little 3:16,
wrestling feels so empty without Steve

A cage fit to a casket, I’ll stand toe to toe with anybody who’s willing to lose to me,
Brock Lesnar, you would get your ass kicked worse than them little Kientai bastards!
And Jim Ross, you can stomped by anybody,
You 50 year old hat wearing loser, let it be.
You think you know me, There’s a line to cross, Let go, it's over, nobody likes your damn BBQ sauce!
If you want me, just give me the signal
I will be there with a whole list full of new "what insults"
I’ll be at home, drinking beer with my dogs, waiting to see how long it takes for you to call.

But when I’m at the show it seems,
That nobody wants to discuss me!
So this must mean I’m not that big,
But this is me so that’s just obscene
This isn’t the biggest wrestling controversy, it’s the biggest thing since ‘97, oh mercy!
To let down the fans so selfishly, after they’re the ones who made me so wealthy.
(Hey) There’s a concept that works, 20 million other Stone Cold’s emerge,
But no matter how big they may be, wrestling will be so empty without me.

Now this would be a job for me
If everybody would just JOB to me
Cuz we need a little 3:16,
wrestling feels so empty without Steve

I said that this would be a job for me
If everybody would just JOB to me
Cuz we need a little 3:16,
wrestling feels so empty without Steve

Well that does it for another edition of "Last Monday". Hope you enjoyed it and you can send your thoughts, complaints or questions to BrendanAngle@hotmail.com and I’ll reply to you ASAP. Thanks for reading…

    Until next time…
