    Report by David Graner

I attended the WWE smackdown brand houseshow at the Neil S Blaisdell Center in Honolulu in front of 9,000 fans, a sellout, for the Rock’s return and a Bruce Willis interference. A great return after 8 years.

    Few Notes

Fit Finlay, Earl Hebner, Pat Patterson and Dean Malenko were on hand helping the event. I was near the enterence so I shook hands with, Finley, Farooq, Billy, Val, Kidman, Orton, B. Willis, and Rikishi. The crowd was very excited. I saw a table under the ring, but it was never used. There was no stage or fireworks, just walked out of a lockerrom curtain which you could see Test and Chrisitian talking with Val, Christian, and Test. Rico’s family was there as he escorted them to their seats. Every time someone got on the turnbuckle (which were funny because they said WWF) every camera started going off. Bruce Willis kept walking back and forth between his ringside seat and the locker room. (We had really good seats). And yes the Rock did appear for a one time event with the peoples elbow.

    Results

Fink comes out promos and the crowd goes nuts. Bruce Willis walks from the locker room to his seat.

    Match #1
    Tajiri d. Christian
Christian comes out and talks a lot about how the islands suck. He gets over well and many hate him. The crowd has a lot of heat for him and goes crazy for Tajiri. Great match nice kicks, Tajiri wins off the ropes. No green mist. After words I saw them talking probably discussing the match.

    Match #2
    Albert & D-von d. Orton & Funaki
No talking, the crowd didn’t really boo or cheer anyone. Worst crowd respond of the night. Great slams much high flying. One of best matches. Was cut short because of lack of crowd response.

Bruce Willis walks from seat to locker room.

    Match #3
    Hurricane d. Noble
Crowd excited and very backing off Hurricane. Good match. I never got to slap their hands because I had to step right back because a Hurricane came threw. Actually neither of them wanted to slap my filthy hands.

    Match #4
    Bruce Willis returns to seat.
    Test d. Valbowski
When Test came out he had a water bottle which he poured on himself then dropped it. I picked it up. Good slams, crowd was into it, but did not know who to cheer for because both of them don’t have a prominent face or heel characteristic.

Match #5 Billy and Chuck w. Rico d. Farooq and Hugh Morrus
Most humor of night. Billy and Chuck hugged, chanted Rico is gay, and chanted “mahu” which is the local word for fag. Chuck got knocked out on the ground and Billy’s face purposely fell on his balls and started gyrating. Also Chucks speedos got wedged into a thong. All had huge crowd responses. Even Hugh Morrus got huge pops.

    Match #6
    Bruce goes back to lockeroom.
    Kidman d. Storm
Great match. Bruce returns during match. Both great wrestling and crowd response. USA chant happened. Kidman won with the shooting star press.

    Match # 7
    Rikishi d Angle.
Second biggest crowd response of night. Of course the usual You Suck chant during Angle’s music. Great responses for Rikishi as he is Samoan. Many submissions. The crowd was crazy for the stinkface. After Rikishi’s win Angle beat him up and Rikishi countered. He took the wig off and put it on the refs head and they danced.

    Swimsuit Competition
Ivory v. StaceY v. Tori Wilson
Ivory talks trash about how all we want is sex. She says she is hotter and she won’t take her clothes off. Stacey and Tori take her clothes off she runs to the back. Tori wins as Stacey beats her up.

    Match #8
    Rock d. Jericho
Jericho comes out and and says that he hates the hawaiian food poi and he hates leis. Rock comes out greatest pop. Great match including peoples elbow throwing elbow pad in crowd. Chris Jericho leaves, Rock tell him to come back. He wrestles near the ringside fans and Bruce Willis takes his shirt off and has a wife beater on and headbuts Jericho. Rocks wins. Rock said "Finally the Rock has come home." He has a lot of family in Hawaii and he went to school here. He gives Jericho a flower lei which he rips up and the Rock says if you don’t like poi we can turn that son bitch side ways and stick it straight up your candy ass. He says we wouldn’t do that because you are a homo who would like that. They chant mahu. Rock shakes hands and welcomes him with Aloha with a rock bottom. He thanks the crowd and had greatest cheer of night.

An outstanding show with huge crowd responses. Tons of wrestling (it was 2:45 long, from 4-7 with only one 15 min. intermision). The crowd was up for the length (not like old Nitro crowds) and the loudest pops came at the the begging and the end.

The crowd loved it, it was a great event, and I am glad it wasn’t televised because I feel special attending this with no TV. If it was smackdown matches will be shorter, and it would have a lot of pauses for production.

    Report by Chris Kelly

I'm Chris Kelly. I'm 24 and has been a wrestling fan my whole life. I moved here to Hawaii in 97 through the military and have stayed here ever since. I attended the show as well this past Saturday. I sat in the 6th row from the ring. It was worth $90 for the tickets. It was my first WWE event ever and all I can say was it was a blast. I took a lot of pictures which I got developed the next day. I just want to agree with what you said. I'm glad it wasn't televised. It made us all feel special to see the return of the Rock. A couple of other notes from where I was sitting.

    1. During the Tag Title match, where I sitting, fans behind me were chanting, "Farooq, Farooq, Farooq is on fire." which actually got the attention of Billy Gunn when he was on the ring apron cause he yelled back at us saying, "Hey, that's not funny."

    2. Not sure if you heard it, but an "ECW" chant broke out on my side when Lance Storm came out. Some of us still remember those days.

    3. Personally, besides the Rock, I think the loudest pop was a tie between Rikishi and Kurt Angle. I know everyone pops for Angle on tv but hearing it live in person, man it was loud from the second his music hit. I like Kurt Angle so I couldn't chant "You Suck" like everyone else.

    4. Seeing them all in person, they are a lot bigger than they look on television.

Anyway, I just wanted to express my opinion of the show and how much fun I had. Their right, there's no better experience than being at a live show. As far as crowd reaction, just think, we were only 9,000+ being that loud, I couldn't imagine how it is in person with 20,000+ for a Raw or SmackDown, or even 60,000+ for a Wrestlemania. It must be intense. Okay, gotta go. Hope you make it back to catch the show when WWE comes back in January 2003. I hope they come more often, especially with this show being sold out and the great crowd reactions we gave.
