N.W.O. - Back In Black DVD Review

Last night, I was tooling around the local Media Play and I spooted this in
a box of videos that had not yet been stocked. Since this is the first
review I have ever written, I'll try to make it as comprehensive as possible
and make sure everyone knows what's up with it. Before I start writing
about the video, I think it's only fair to let everyone know that I never
witnessed the NWO in WCW. I didn't start watching wrestling until shortly
before Wrestlemania 16. And, I never watched WCW until the WWE bought it.
So, without further ado, on with the show.

The actual feature runs about 90 minutes, which is much longer than most
WWE home videos which clock in at around an hour. Then there are another 90
minutes of extras, but we'll get to those later on. First the video. I'm
going to review each chapter in and of itself and then give a final rating
before I tell you about the extras on the disc.

Chapter 1. Hulk Hogan History: A little history on the NWO, WCW and WWE.
We hear about Hall wanting to make money, and Hogan says that the NWO
represented the new generation and style of wrestlers that were coming into
the business at the time. We start out with learning about Hulkamania in
the 1980's and how Hogan and Vince brought westling into the mainstream. It
begin January 24, 1984 the day Hulkamania was born with his title win over
the Iron Shiek at MSG. A nice little montage of Hulk hulking up, posing, and
winning the WWF gold time after time. The announcer tells us how Hogan and
savage had been lured away from the WWE with more money and less taxing work
schedules Interview with Hogan discussing how the business has changed over
the years, saying fueds used to last maybe around a year and how now it
changes with the times and moves at a much faster pace.

Chapter 2. Razor Ramon History: Around the same time, the WWE was
developing new talent. One such was Scott Hall who was known as Razor
Ramon. Interview with Hall saying WWE is the big time and hthat many of his
dreams were coming true there. Another montage, this time showing Razor's
matches. This Chapter was kind of short and not all that informative.

Chapter 3. Diesel history: WE learn he started as HBK's bodygaurd, but he
made a name for himself as Diesel. We see yet another montage. This one
shows his 8 second win over Bob Backlund and his feud with HBK. Just as
Diesel and Razor were becoming known as the new generation of wrestling in
the WWE, they were offered more money by WCW and defected to that promotion.
We are shown video of the curtian call incident. Hall says that there was
no bad intentions in doing this, and they felt they were saying good bye the
WWF fans and not breaking kayfabe.

Chapter 4. Scott Hall on WCW Nitro 5-27-96: We are shown footage of hall
coming down to the ring and grabbing a mic and calling out "billionaire
Ted", the "Nacho Man", "Scheme Gene" and Eric Bischoff. I never quite
understood why the WWE sued the WCW, but this little clip shows me exactly
why. Hall is totally in his Razor gimmick and he is making no bones about
it. In case you were wondering, the funny names of WCW wrestlers come
directly out of a series of vignettes produced for WWE when the monday night
wars started. He shoudl never have said "We are coming down here and we are
taking over" That sealed the fate of the lawsuit right there.

Chapter 5: Kevin Nash on WCW Nitro 6-10-96: This is Nash's debut on WCW.
Bisch interview Hall and Nash, and they are talking more crap about WWE.
Hall gives credit to himself and Nash for re-invigorating the WCW.

Chapter 6. Bash At The Beach 7-7-96: Hall and Nash take on Luger, Savage
and Sting. Their surprise third member has not yet arrived. When Hogan
comes out, he joins up with Hall and Nash by dropping 3 legs on Savage, and
then cuts a vicious promo about making people up north rich and the fans go
nuts. They are throwing all kinds of cups and garbage into the ring. I'd
say this is a classic promo and almost worth the price of admission. By the
way, my own opinion, the announcing on WCW really sucked.

Chapter 7. NWO on Rampage: This is a Montage of clips showing the NWO
going through and disrupting the WCW. Doing the thing the NWO was known
    for.

Chapter 8. Hog Wild 8-10-96 Hulk Hogan vs. The Giant: Hogan wins the
title the Giant. During the match, the Giant hulks up on Hogan. But Nash
and Hall run Interference for Hogan, who beans the Giant with the title and
pins him for the 3. Hogan then spray paints the title to read NWO.

Chapter 9. Spray Paint Truck: Exactly that. Hogan Paints the video truck
    to read NWO.

Chapter 10. The Giant joins NWO: Again, just as the title implies, everyon
thinks the Giant is going to save the Dungeon of Doom and The Four Horsemen.
    But, he doesn't.

Chapter 11. NWO attacks Ric Flair: Hogan sprays Naitch with paint and then
paints a yellow streak up his back. Fnas throw more crap at the NWO.

Chapter 12. Bigger is Better?: Begins with Hogan saying that as the NWO
added more people, it got watered down and says that the NWO could make
anyone a star by slapping the black and white on them. Hall says that he
feels the same way about this. They thought they would have their own show
and instead of choosing WWE or WCW, it would be WCW or NWO. Next the WWF is
showcased as having a new attitude wity wrestlers like Stone Cold and
others, and that propelled the business to new heights.

Chapter 13. Ric Flair is back!!!: This is Ric Flair's debut on Raw on
11-19-01. We hear the whole Shane and Stephanie selling their stock to
    Flair.

Chapter 14. Injecting Poison: This is Vince's promo telling the fans about
Flair coming into the company and trying to take over. He says the WWE has
terminal cancer and that he needs to inject and poison into it because no
one is going to kill what he created. The poison is the NWO.

Chapter 15. Poisons the Federation: The NWO coming out to the ring at No
Way Out 2002. Hogan saying he felt that he needed to prove himself in the
WWE once again. Promo by the NWO saying they want a chance to prove
themselves to everyone. He thanks Vince for giving them that chance.
Backstage the NWO finds Austin and offers him some beer, Austin says he's
not thirsty and throws it away. Next up is the Rock who cuts a funny ass
promo on them. Then we see the NWO screwing Austin out of the title later
    that night.

Chapter 16. NWO Destroys the Rock: This the setup for the match at
Wrestlemania 18. We see the ambulance with the rock in it getting crushed
    after the NWO jumped him.

Chapter 17. NWO Wreaks Havoc: This is the NWO trying be a bunch of bad
asses and causing trouble in the federation. This sets up the feud between
    Austin and Hall.

CHapter 18. Scott Hall vs. Stone Cold Wrestlmeania 18: A recap of the
    match

Chapter 19. Hollywood Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock Wrestlemania 18: Same as
    Above

Chapter 20. NWO: The Future: Hogan leaves the NWO, Hall says the NWO has
to get back to the basics and do what the NWO is supposed to do. Shows the
match between Rock and Nash on Raw. Hogan comes out and saves the Rock from
them. Then X-Pac comes out and lays out Hogan with a chairshot to the head.
Hogan says the NWO's downfall is that they won't know when to back off.

Rating: 8/10: All in all a good history of the NWO and the events
surrounding Hall and Nash leaving the WWE. I never would have seen half the
stuff that the NWO did if it hadn't been for this DVD. I would recommend it
to those who are the same way as me. The one thing I noticed though, is
that the NWO really lost once in the WWE. But again anyone wanting to
relive these days or anyone who needs a history of the NWO should pick this
up. It's well worth the money you pay for it.

Extras: I'm not going to review each match I'm just gonna tell you what is
    on the dvd.

Luger and Randy Savage. - This is the match where hogan turns heel
