Corner To Corner - PEACE or WAR?
Submitted by Stan Grubb on Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at 11:30 AM EST
In times of peace, we stand our guards and keep it such. In times of war, there is no mercy. In times of peace, we help one another. In times of war, it is dog eat dog. In times of peace, it is every man for himself. So, looking into our beloved genre, where do we want to be? At peace, or at WAR? I choose war.
There is no time to stand back and wait for the event. Wrestling is on that fine line right this very moment. It is teetering on the brink of rebirth or destruction. The very people we looked to for guidance have admitted to us that they do not have any idea how to correct the mistakes they’ve been making. Well, we spoke once this past week, loudly and proudly.
Did they get the message? Well, some would say yes. Others would only half agree. Where do I stand? Quite frankly, I have to be the middleman here. Yes, RAW was much better than last week. My friends being much better than total crap, doesn’t make a show grade A. Look, if I took a pile of crap and brushed off the dirt, does that mean its not crap anymore?
My point is that while the show had a lot of good points, I am still not satisfied. Don’t get me wrong it did have good points. For example: Finally, the n.W.o has some push. Truth be known, I dislike their crew in its current incarnation, but at least they have a direction again. Now all they have to do is get Nash healthy and in the ring and we may have a possible shot at making their stable CREDIBLE.
Chris Benoit’s return was moved up a bit, and thankfully so. Can I ask you something? Does Chris Benoit really need to have a 15-minute segment in the ring with Eddie Guerrero and Ric Flair? Furthermore, did we really need to sit and watch him be escorted away?
I could swear that the theme of last week was that nobody liked the talking segments. I got more emails telling me that the talking was so out of hand that it made people want to change the channel. VINCE! JR!! What the hell are you trying to prove? If I wanted to watch a talking deal, I’d watch a talk show. Put the wrestlers in the ring and let your stars do some work.
I’m sorry, The Undertaker beating up an already jobbed out Tommy Dreamer does little to show the dominance of our current Undisputed Champion. Honestly, Dead man Inc looks like its stock sank to the negative numbers. So Vince, how much are you going to pay us to watch him? I got an email from a fan last week praising me for not making fun of him. Well, I respect the Taker a great deal, but I think even he knows that him having an overly long segment without a match and with only a comedic act that he isn’t getting the respect he wants. I know he’s injured, but for Christ’s sake, quit with the talking segments!
In my comments to the WWE last week, I told them that titles needed some importance. What did they do? Well, we got two title matches. The Hardcore title AKA The most lame title out there, changed hands another thousand times with women, children, cameramen, and some fat kid from Oklahoma claiming to have won it. I wonder if ANYONE AT ALL cares about that segment. Check the ratings, I’m sure they SANK.
The next title match? Well, the shining moment for us this Monday was the Intercontinental title bout showcasing Eddie and RVD. By god, give both of those men a raise, because they lit that ring up!
True, there were a few missed spots, but they adlibbed and kept us all on the edge of our seats. Most ladder matches talk about the HBK-Ramon edition. This match set its own standard.
Hey JR and Vince, you have three belts on RAW. ONE of them has meaning; the other two are almost garbage. Do you want to know what to do? Since you don’t know what to do, take my advice. Burn the hardcore belt and call it a loss. Its junk, nobody gives a crap about it. Next? Take the European title and rename it the Television title. Why? Because you’re not in Europe enough to have a reason to call it that and you only have one true European star in the company. Seriously, its time to restructure that division. Third, continue pushing your Intercontinental bouts as main events. Why? With stars like RVD, Eddie, and Chris Benoit you can make that belt have such prestige that maybe people won’t want to hear about the Undisputed title so much. And that’s good, in case you’re wondering, because your current top dog is hurt again!
While we’re on the subject of injuries. A friend of mine brought this point up to me last week. Did it ever occur to you that the reason so many are getting hurt is because you’re not taking the time to properly groom these up and comers to avoid making careless mistakes? Get on the ball and let them know that ignorance will not be tolerated.
Folks, the WWE is changing. They are taking steps to please us. According to the Ross Report, we are going to have to TELL THEM DIRECTLY how to make these changes. Do you want your WWE watching to get better? Do you want to show them that your opinion matters?
Email them! That’s right! EMAIL THE WWE AT FanServices@wwfent.com and tell them what you want! Be respectful, but let your thoughts be known! Tell them you want to see the WWE get better! Tell them your ideas! I am asking each of you to take the bull by the horns and join me in the Movement to Change WWE. I got emails from a few folks who have email this addy, they got the responses I got and they are getting their voices heard.
As corny as it sounds, we can make these changes together guys. We’re all fans, and we’re all important. We spend our money to get our voices heard so we deserve a platform to voice them! The WWE needs change and it looks like its up to us to make these changes.
Please feel free to email me your thoughts as well because I will be calling them again this week. ImpactXtreme@msn.com
Thanks for all of your emails and I appreciate all of the kind words. Until next week, I’m going to plan my next move.
