GO LEAFS GO!Hello and welcome to the latest edition of "I Know What You Did Last Monday." You know that time each summer when things just start to mesh into summer form? When you can just tell that everything from that point on is basically what your summer will be based around? I’ve hit that time. My summer started out rocky with that pool guy job I spoke about last week. When I first took the job it was going to be 6 day work weeks, 8-10 hours a day and $10 an hour! That’s a big job! Lots of money that I’d be needing but things just didn’t pan out that way. No matter what you see in the movies, the pool guy is not this ripped guy in shorts skimming the pool on a hot sunny day with a 40 year old woman outside seducing him. That’s just not the way it works in real life. Let me ruin that fantasy for you… The pool guy is the guy that shows up at some time during the day, could be at 8am, could be at 5pm…either way, we show up, we’re tired, we’re dirty and we’re not wearing shorts. Well at least that’s how the summer started out for me. I’m sure down the road it’d gotten a little easier, and I’m sure that it would have been different but with what I put up with, I wasn’t going to stick around to find out! After pulling 60 hours in 4 days I decided it was time to leave. Fast? Yes it was fast, but a friend had been working there for a month and things didn’t seem to be getting better, for one, the pay wasn’t showing up. Now a month later, I still haven’t been paid, I’ve taken action towards him and basically now he has no choice but to cough up the cash. Either way, if by the end of this week that cheque isn’t in my hands, you’ll have one bitter column writer next week! Why? Well that’s another part of my summer that has now come into around. I have a girlfriend, and I’m sure guys (and girls) who just start out relationships know how important it is to have money. Relationships are hard to jump start without some kind of cash flow, and right now I’m wondering how I’m doing it myself! My new job is working out, my boss is great and I’ll be getting paid this week! Wow, I know. Amazing eh. So now my summer will revolve around trying to have a meaningful relationship evolve with this girl, working at this new job and just trying to have fun along the way too. Right now things are looking up! Hell, even wrestling has its high points during some parts. Ah well, I don’t know why we take it so seriously anyway, it’s not like OUR lives depend on the WWE! Vince is the one who should be changing things, we should just be able to sit back and relish in it all… Let’s get on with the column! Slicing and Dicing WWE RAWWell I must say, that aside from a few parts I actually…kinda…sorta…didn’t hate RAW this week! I know…shocking! But it did have it’s high points. Firstly, with their roster, it’s hard to have any angles. I’m noticing that RAW seems to drag on. When it feels like it’s been two hours, it’s only been one. Not because it’s always a bad show…okay, it mostly is, but it’s because they use so few people that their segments are longer and they drag them out for all their worth. I mean did we really need to see Eddie sing for THAT long? We got the idea after the first 3 minutes…but you get my drift. Overall RAW was okay, which coming from me you know is good. I just liked certain aspects of it. For one, the whole n.W.o/Goldust/Booker T things I thought was very well played out. Sure the n.W.o has run it’s course, and MAYBE they’ll turn things around, but overall that segment was well done. Nash coming out to set things straight, yelling at everyone, Booker kinda sticking up for Goldust. Then them all joining Nash as leader. I thought it played out well, this will all lead up to a Booker T face run which would be something new at least in the WWE, and I think fans are starting to warm up to his comedic self now. The Hardy Boys seemed to get some kind of mini push this week, but I’m not too sure what they can do on a program with no tag teams, or tag titles! Brock Lesnar and Bubba Ray will be an alright feud for the time being. Nobody else to really FEUD with Lesnar, although I’ve had an idea since the rosters split up. I figured why not have RVD feud with Lesnar. Now it’s been said before to have it, but I’ve always thought that’d be the best feud. Have RVD come out as his cocky self, then Lesnar just man handles him. Totally kills him. RVD doesn’t know what hit him, that’s never really happened to him before where he couldn’t fight back. In the weeks leading up to the PPV RVD sneaks in a cheap shot, and things go back and forth. Come the PPV RVD does his best, but ends up being annihilated by Lesnar. How could that happen!? This works into an angle where RVD has to regain his thoughts and remember what brought him to the point where he is today, then at their second PPV meeting RVD wins via count out, scoring the win but not the pin on Lesnar who goes irate still because he loses. He pounds RVD again after the match. The two meet again at the next PPV in a cage match, but in this match you can‘t escape, only win by pin. There‘s no roof so it isn‘t a cell, the match ends with Lesnar going for a big spear and RVD leap frogging it. When he does Lesnar spears through the cage and RVD goes to the top, 5-star splash on Lesnar and he gets the 1-2-3. Now that’d be some good TV…well, at least I think. Just watching tonight’s RAW now and so far it’s been pretty good! Although it’s only been an hour and it seems longer like I said earlier. That’s all fine though. The n.W.o angle is pretty cool, and I’d like to hear the Booker/n.W.o remix, Lesnar looks like a little kid on roids! Two points… First, Dreamer made me almost puke tonight! Dear god! But hey…whatever works…no, I take that back…I’m gonna be sick… Second, very nice to see Benoit back! Looks like they’re working him to be on RAW now. That’s a good thing as I think he’ll be able to add that main event technicality that RAW so sorely needs right now. I’m sure he’ll get involved in the main event…well him or Austin…guess we’ll just see what happens. Looks like they’ve started the ‘unbeaten’ streak with Lesnar after that match. Holy crap! That was a CRAZY power bomb sunset flip off the ladder! OW! Replay…you know RVD is feeling that one in the morning…fan in the ring! Gotta love those smart guys who think spur of the moment, get their 1 minute of fame and get charged about 10 grand! Then again, it’d be worth it for an American!! They could come to Canada, get charged 10 grand and it’d only cost them about $75 American! Great spot fest ladder match there! Great work by both and RVD is champ again! Too bad that last spot 5-Star didn’t work out, bet they’re pissed at that. Ah well. Taking a stab at Smackdown!I missed Smackdown this week, but I wish I’d have caught it! Why? Well because Lance Storm fought Triple H! I wanted to see that match! Geez, go figure, the one night I miss it is the one night a match like this takes place. Hopefully they saw Storms potential here and will start a push. In other big feuds we saw more on Edge/Angle. I’m glad this feud is going as long as it is. It’s getting really personal while still holding it’s edge (no pun intended) and while STILL keeping the fans entertained…hell, they basically steal every show they’re booked together on…more on Edge later. The Hurricane is great, I mean he’s funny, entertaining, original and a champion. Finally someone who the fans like has it…come on, that choke slam he has is CLASSIC! The best one he’s done was at the Royal Rumble, period. What about the whole Vince/Hogan feud? I’m trying to figure this one out…it could still play out well, but HONESTLY I think that the days of boss VS wrestler are getting weary. I’ll talk about that more next week but seriously, it just lots its appeal. I think that’s why I like Edge VS Angle so much, because it’s ALL them. Anyway, Hogan VS Vince could be interesting, but it could also get stale fast. Hogan is wearing off on the fans I think, well at least on me, and there’s only so much he can do. We’ll see how it goes. I think it would have been better for him to just let it be and retire last week. Had his last run, let it go before he starts being hated again…but then again, when has he ever done the logical thing? The future of the World title sceneThe world title scene has been bland for a long while now. Remember the intense battles that used to be fought for the title? Those seem few and far off now depending on who is champ. Jericho could have had some great ones, but not all of those panned out. Hogan couldn’t have any great ones, and now the Undertaker is champ and his prime is long past. Right now, the scene just isn’t as prestigious as it should be! The question isn’t what can be done now to make it more prestigious, but what can be done for the future, and it seems the steps are already in motion. The future of the company lies on Smackdown, as that’s no sectret as that’s where most of the younger talent in, but whom I speak of is one man, and that man is Edge. I was listening to a CD I just burned and I have Edge’s theme on it, my current favourite theme, and I was listening to it and picturing Edge in a world title match and that song playing after while he has the belt, and I could see it. He just has that feel to him now. It’s been seen for a while, but think of the people that haven’t gotten as high as some said. Val Venis was said to have potential, Bradshaw, Albert, Billy Gunn…all of those guys! They were all said to have main event potential but got nowhere. It was mainly the way they were pushed, but also the crowd. Edge has now proven that he can stand on his own, and that’s partly thanks to my main man Kurt Angle. The feud that Edge is now in put him on the main event map no doubt, but it’s proven that the fans love him, and that he can hold his own at the top. This opens the doors for some great big feuds. Edge VS Jericho, Edge VS Triple H etc…there are a lot of them, and frankly I think that Edge is a GIANT breath of fresh air, in an other wise stale scene. Shawn Michaels- A "real" man?I was reading the Confidential report, and I saw all the stuff Michaels was saying about Bret Hart and the whole Survivor Series saga…and he admitted that he knew. Then Brisco and everyone was saying that made Shawn a real man, that he did such a courageous thing…WHAT?! Okay, well screw that. Sure I’m a big Bret Hart fan, and sure I’m a Canadian, but I know that there are a bunch of Americans who feel the same about Bret. What did they mean about that made Shawn a real man? He said on camera to Bret after that he didn’t know. Triple H vowed to Bret’s wife that he didn’t know. And now they admit that they all knew, well I think that makes them a coward personally. It doesn’t take a man to pull a screw job, it takes a man to step up and do what’s right and I don’t care who says Vince was right here, because come on, ANYONE who says that Bret Hart would have taken the WWF title to WCW with him is full of it, because Bret was the most loyal wrestler for Vince for years, and he would have kept his end. Forget Vince, forget Shawn, and forget that whole interview. Guess this is what Bret gets for just saying no to the whole Wrestlemania show up eh? They made him look like a nut, like ‘tough ol Vince’ would "let" Bret get his shots in because Bret wanted to ‘pound him’…whatever, Vince got nailed, nice cover up. This is a sad, sad thing to do, Bret deserves better…and for craps sakes Vince is holding Bret’s video/photo history hostage pretty much…makes ya kinda sick doesn’t it? "In the end, the F doesn’t even matter"- to the beat of Linkin Park’s In The EndHere’s a song I wrote about the WWE change, just for fun. See what happens when you stay up really late on the weekend and aren’t thinking straight after?! There's always something I'm not sure why It doesn't even matter how hard Vince tries keep it in mind He designed this fed To entertain all the time And I know The word is a valuable thing Putting Federation after World Wrestling So easy to write and so easy to say And now it's gone away How do we feel? Wouldn't you like to know Watching the ratings go out the window They're trying to hold on, but they don't even know Where'd all the fans get up and go? They pushed Federation aside and say entertainment with pride, off to a rough start What used to be an F has now become an E even though against the Panda's Vince tried so hard And got so far But at the end The F doesn't even matter It had to fall Or they'd lose it all But in the end The F doesn't even matter One thing, I don't know why It doesn't even matter how hard Vince tries Fans don't keep in mind He designed this name, to remind himself how He tried so hard In spite of the way people mock WWE Acting like the F was really Vince's property Remember that it was the Panda's you see Moving in after Vince went too (far) Things aren't the way they were before You wouldn't recognize the logo anymore Not that it was good back then But it all comes back to the E (on the end) They pushed Federation aside and say entertainment with pride, off to a rough start What used to be an F has now become an E even though against the Panda's Vince tried so hard And got so far But at the end The F doesn't even matter It had to fall Or they'd lose it all But in the end The F doesn't even matter There wasn't anything else Vince could do Pushed as far as he could go And for all this The F in WWF had to go There wasn't anything else Vince could do Pushed as far as he could go And for all this The F in WWF had to go Vince tried so hard And got so far But at the end The F doesn't even matter It had to fall Or they'd lose it all But in the end The F doesn't even matter Well that does it for this week! I’ll be back next week, but until then send any comments or complaints to BrendanAngle@hotmail.com and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!
