The following is from NWATNA.com: Statement from NWA-TNA Announcer Don West First of all, I want to express my appreciation for being asked to join this groundbreaking new venture in the world of professional wrestling. As someone who has been selling sports on television for the last 10 years, one thing I am always looking for is an exciting new product. I thought I had seen it all -- and I honestly believe that I had. Then, J Sports and Entertainment approached me about NWA TNA Total Nonstop Action. They sat me down and explained in great detail all about the concept -- the pay-per-view exclusivity, the over-the-top presentation, the action, the athleticism and the sheer entertainment value. After hearing this plan, I was so blown away that I couldn't wait to get on board. Believe me -- this is the type of opportunity that only comes along once in a lifetime for a guy like me. As I said before, I've always made my living selling sports... but now, I get to sell excitement. And for the first time, I get to be a part of it! (MLW) is thrilled to announce Joey Styles as the official voice of MLW home videos. Joey will call it as he sees it as Shane Douglas, Bam Bam Bigelow, Jerry Lynn, Taiyo Kea, La Parka, Christopher Daniels and a mystery entrant battle it out in an eight-man tournament at the ECW Arena/Viking Hall. All these men are extremely determined to become the first MLW Heavyweight Champion. "There is no one else in the business that can a call match better than Joey Styles and MLW is thrilled to have him as a part of our team," said MLW owner and executive producer Court Bauer. When contacted regarding this major announcement, Styles stated: "Almost one year ago, I turned down an employment offer from WWE, retired from the professional wrestling industry and resumed my advertising sales and marketing career. Since then, I have been made many offers to appear at regional live wrestling events and voice over wrestling videos. After due consideration, I declined these offers because I felt that calling any product that was not the quality of ECW, would somehow cheapen the seven plus years I spent as the voice of that revolutionary and now defunct promotion. With that said, I am very excited to be calling the video release of MLW Genesis. A tournament of this magnitude from the ECW Arena featuring four former ECW World Champions and four great wrestlers who are more than worthy of wearing gold, should have an announcer who will treat their efforts with the respect they deserve. Therefore, I am happy to be reprising my role as a professional wrestling (not sports entertainment) announcer for Major League Wrestling." Joey Styles will forever be known as the voice of ECW. He was always loyal to the ECW fans and stayed with ECW from the company's inception in 1993 through its demise in 2001 despite 10 overtures made by both WWE and WCW during that time. Over seven years, he hosted and voiced over all of ECW's PPV's, television programs, home videos and video games. Joey Styles was the first and only announcer ever to call a live PPV broadcast solo, ECW Barely Legal on April 13, 1997 and called seven subsequent pay-per-view broadcasts solo as well. Working behind the cameras as well, he developed and managed ECWwrestling.com and the ECW Hardcore Hotline, edited ECW Magazine and worked on developing ECW's online and print catalogs. In June of 2001 Joey Styles made history by being one of very few people to turn down an offer from WWE, instead opting to resume his advertising career. Joey Styles now returns to calling wrestling matches for MLW's Genesis available on home video! Continuing the theme of first time dream match-ups, All Japan Pro Wrestling Triple Crown contender Taiyo Kea will square off against former ECW World Heavyweight Champion and WrestleMania main eventer Bam Bam Bigelow in another first time dream match. Also, independent sensation "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels will do battle against the wild card seed - a match that is intriguing the internet community as no one seems to be sure just who will fill the slot! The third match in the tournament will see former IWC World Heavyweight Champion and Mexican standout La Parka will put his extreme and high risk lucha libre style to task against the aggressive and violent technical skills of the high flying former ECW World Heavyweight Champion "The New F'N Show" Jerry Lynn. Finally, fans will see the first encounter between two of the most cocky and successful NWA and ECW World Heavyweight Champions of the past five years in a match being labeled "THE FRANCHISE VS. THE KING OF OLD SCHOOL" featuring the ECW Arena homecoming of Shane Douglas versus Steve Corino. Who will survive round one? The arrogant and skilled veteran?
